Really good talk with Mike Miller and RJ Hampton. I've been high on Hampton the whole time but hearing them both talk really makes me want to draft him. They both do a great job selling his work ethic, elite athleticsm, and improving jump shot and Mike Miller isn't just bullshitting about him. He's seen young guys in the league before.

One thing that stuck out was how RJ is 6'5" 192 lbs and can guard 1-3, whereas other guards in that tier like Kira Lewis, Tyrell Terry, and Cole Anthony all can only guard the 1 or 2 and in most cases only the 1. Sounds like an Ainge pick to me

I watched RJ here in Aus... can’t say he really stood out but maybe just playing against grown men was more difficult for him? It’s pretty tough over here

Oh no doubt he was not very impressive over there. He even mentioned how he thinks it helped him a ton though since he’s played with the ball in his hands his whole life and that made him adjust to what it’ll be like in NBA. And Mike Miller agreed too.

I’ve been hearing he’s been doing great in interviews and not surprised because he sounded very mature and well spoken with Russillo

I really hope people understood my comment about Jerry as any possible pro athlete can do that. I figured that was implied.

I don't think I have posted anything about Oturu today
9'2 would be the 2nd highest standing reach in the draft 7'4 would be the 3rd longest wingspan...and he can shoot.

THIS I did not know...

and THIS is why I'd prefer Boston keeping at least 2 if not 3 of their 1st RD picks. talent all over the place..

For all we know, 3 years from now he might be better than Both Wiseman and/or Okongwu.

Updating the list of Confirmed workouts/virtual meetings. Have added virtual meetings for Cole Anthony, Naji Marshall & Grant Riller.

Even though Saddiq Bey, Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Smith have resumes on the website nba.com/celtics since I have not seen anything confirming an in-person workout or virtual meeting they have not been added to the list.

If you have a reference to a confirmed workout or confirmed virtual meeting not listed, please provide the source and I'll be happy to include it.

So, who are the 8 players the Celtics have worked out?

Teams are only allowed 10 IN-PERSON workouts.

Confirmed:
Precious Achiuwa (Memphis)
R. J. Hampton (New Zealand Breakers)
Theo Maledon (France - ASVEL)
Aaron Nesmith (Vanderbilt)
Devin Vassell (Florida State)

Possibly
Saddiq Bey (Villanova)
Onyeka Okongwu (USC)
Jalen Smith (Maryland)

Virtual Meeting, i.e. Zoom (Doesn't count against limit of 10 workouts)
Cole Anthony (North Carolina)
Desmond Bane (TCU)
Nate Hinton (Houston)
Naji Marshall (Xavier)
Zeke Nnaji (Arizona)
Daniel Oturu (Minnesota)
Payton Pritchard (Oregon)
Immanuel Quickley (Kentucky)
Paul Reed (DePaul)
Grant Riller (College of Charleston)
Jay Scrubb (2 meetings) - maybe he should change his last name considering his desired profession. Was consensus JUCO College Player of the Year, and scheduled to transfer to Louisville if he didn't stay in the NBA Draft.
Cassius Stanley (Duke)
Lamar Stevens (Penn State)
Tyrell Terry (Stanford)
Killian Tillie (Gonzaga)

I haven’t read every comment but i don’t think people are taking the COVID break into account enough for this draft. I think a lot more of these guys are going to be ready to contribute earlier because they had nothing to do for a long time except workout and hone their game. More guys are going to get chances to prove themselves because of it and they will be more ready than they would if it was normal years. I just feel like because they had this time it won’t take until year 2+ for them to be ready for the NBA. Like they will be more ready physically and that alone will help guys get chances they wouldn’t have just a season ago.

I am crap at explaining my thoughts but i just have a feeling this draft is going to be a good one partially because of that long break. It’s going to be similar to jumps you see from players from season 1 to 2, where guys could finally train and not worry about school and other distractions, because of this break it’s going to happen earlier IMO.

+1000
Like I have been saying all along. If they are available when we draft:

14-Saddiq Bey (The shooter off the bench we need)
26-Daniel Oturu (The big we need to back up Theis and Williams)
30- Tre Jones (The eventual Kemba replacement)
47- Perry, Tillie or Reed

If we could come out of this draft with S. Bey, D Oturu, Tre Jones, and either Perry, Tillie or Reed @ 47 for the 2 way, we would be so deep it's not even funny.

Kemba, Smart, Jones
Brown, Langford, Edwards
Hayward, FA, Bey
Tatum, G. Williams, Oturu
Theis, Timelord, Kanter

I agree— I think were going to see two types of players from this draft. The ones who love basketball and worked their asses off the past 9 months will be apparent. As will the guys who didnt work as hard as they possibly could.

I think there will be much more of the first category and that there will be many good players from this draft. I also think there will be some busts as well — seeing Anthony Edwards struggle with his wind during his ESPN workout a few weeks back was troubling, especially when Maxey killed it and looked like a machine.

If I were Danny at this point and I kept all the picks I’d be like:

14 - Jalen Smith
26 - Oturu
30 - Nnaji
47 - Paul Reed

And then break down and cry “SUCK IT I DONT KNOW WHAT I’M DOING BECAUSE OF MY HUBRIS AND PTSD”

Then I’d start those four rookies along with Smart.
Paul Pierce appreciation society.

Terry can shoot ! this is why we draft him !! he can also facilitate but shooting is why we take him for current window

There are plenty of guys in this draft that can shoot that arent 6’1

Tbh, I’d rather take Desmond Bane at 14 than Terry. Nesmith, Bey, Vassell, there are plenty of guys in this draft than can shoot it.
