One point I read somewhere else is that we probably used our TPEs to take back contracts from Dallas and then sent them Rondo for a TPE...

Should of traded Rondo to the Kings for their 1st and McLemore after Minny killed the Love deal.

I know Danny had to get something, but this is pretty much a disaster.

Good times in Dallas.

From an unbiased outside perspective the mistake in getting so little for Rondo didn't happen today but instead in not trading him in the offseason and/or before last year once Pierce and Garnett were traded. Rondo's injury I'm sure played some part in it but either way waiting clearly wasn't the right move. Right for Ainge to dump him now and this may have been the best he could have done with the Knicks and Lakers being too far out of it to make a serious play of it at this time.

Either way I'd welcome you guys to Tankathon 2015 but given how bad the east is and with Brad Stevens coaching his butt off you guys are still one season ending Bosh injury from being an 8 seed.
The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

Okay, I'm over my grief. Loved those monster Rondo games in the playoffs and I'll still follow his career. Now gotta focus on the next era

Meh. This year's team is like that really hot girl that gets you to the point of orgasm, then pulls back and tells you to go **** yourself and laughs while you get blue balls. At least you knew the ugly chick you were getting into with last year's team.

The trade, on the surface (and maybe altogether) sucks. But, for what it's worth:

The Celtics likely also create a trade exception worth nearly $13 million with this transaction, which could be of monstrous value next summer. Wright is a player that could be "on the bus" down the line, due to his ability to protect the rim, though he could also work as trade bait before the February 19 trade deadline. Crowder might not be a big name, but he's only 24-years-old and is already an extremely versatile defender. Boston may view him as a keeper, especially if he continues to excel from the three-point line.

And of course, acquiring more draft picks never hurts. Boston will now have three first round draft picks in 2015, including Philadelphia's second round draft pick; they will now be in the pole position to acquire virtually any player that hits the trading market.

They were going to lose Rondo anyway. Getting anything in return helps.

What's the difference between Rondo leaving and we're left empty-handed and Rondo leaving and we got a bag of **** in return?

Write, Crowder and Nelson could all be FA after this season. The picks are the valuable asset here.

EDIT: As well as a trade exception.

Got to be a pretty sad day to be a Celtics fan. Rondo was a great Celtic and a playoff warrior and the last tie to the most recent championship team.

I am beyond elated to have Rondo coming to Dallas. One of my 3 or 4 favorite players in the entire Association. I am aware of some of his flaws, but I am convinced his strengths outweigh his shooting struggles. And we have a great coach to make it all work.

So my condolences to you guys, but I still think the future will be bright in Boston. The Celtics have stockpiled some pretty good assets, and despite the abuse Ainge is taking atm on RealGM I think he is a good GM and will make good use of those assets.

I still can't believe Rondo is really a Maverick....

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
In trade talks, remember: Rondo essentially had veto power. No one would trade for him as rental. He had to be committed to sign extension.

He's a 28 year old career backup center on an expiring contract. So excited I can't hold it in!

Maybe you should actually take a look at his numbers.

He is shooting 75 percent, is a solid rebounder and blocks shots. He averages .188 WS/48 for his career. But yeah; you're right. Total scrub.

If he's still shooting 75% when April gets here then I'll be impressed.

No he's not a scrub, but he's not a difference maker either. Maybe Danny can fleece some team into giving up something of value for him like the Mavs did him but I doubt it. At the end of the day he's a 28 year old career backup on an expiring contract.

I'm not going to attempt to read 9 pages of post, so I apologize if this is duplicate.

I'm just sad. The package coming back is basically spare parts. I like Wright, but he has no place on this team. Bass has got to go now. You can't play 5 big guys and Zeller, Sullinger and Olynyk all need to play. Crowder is fine, but he's basically a backup SF. Nelson is finished as a productive NBA player. And the pick will be late. Potentially around 25-30. Great. Another late first rounder. A team full of late first round picks is a team that will suck. And no one is trading a good pick for a package of garbage late picks.

In addition, the Celtics now go in the tank. The best players in this draft are big men. So, add another big man to the only position the team that is somewhat stocked. Ugh. What a mess. There is no PG depth now. Smart can't stay healthy. These are nagging type injuries. Never a good sign. Pressey is a third string guy. Turner is the de facto backup PG and the offense is a mess every time he runs the team.

Next steps have to be to move Green and Bass. There is absolutely no point to having them around now. Might as well go all the way in and not even worry about trying to win a game the rest of the way.

In addition, on a personal level, I'm gonna miss Rondo. He went from the little brother with Pierce, KG and Allen to a complete badass. I'll never forget him almost singlehandedly carrying the Celtics past Miami in the playoffs. I have tickets to see the Celtics play the Magic on Tuesday night and all of a sudden that game is gonna be far less enjoyable.

Another reminder that we root for laundry, not players. Laundry. Freaking laundry. :(

Rondo was a truly great playmaker. One of the best I've had the pleasure of watching. I hope he kills it for the Mavs and they win it all

Yeah I think they're both easy, ugly and dtf. Just this years team is more of a butterface while last years team was lumpy gravy all around.

Rondo injury, mediocre play and impending FA kill his value.

It is arguable, based on age/timing, that every player on your roster will now be playing with the best PG they have ever played with. You just got that player for a pile of trash.

These "opinions" about spacing issues are laughable, there will be none. Your guys will be feasting on wide open shots all season long

Congrats

For what it's worth, I think you guys got a pretty good return for Rondo if you were intent on trading him. I don't think an expiring, struggling Rondo could fetch much more in a league saturated with PGs.

Ainge has never gotten the kind of trade packages that people think he would for Rondo. There was never a good time to trade Rondo and now he was running out of time. The scary part of the trade is Boston may actually be better on the floor.
