He's got the god-given size and athleticism, but come on - the guy gets abused by other elite prospects when he shows up for the Nike tournaments. Take him in the 2nd round, then let him play overseas.

Abused? Really?? Got a link to where all these other prospects were abusing him? I must of seen the wrong player.

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/2015-Nike-Hoop-Summit-Final-Recap-4898/
Maker played hard and was very active on the glass but really struggled on the offensive end, bobbling passes (which he did all week), forcing shots at the rim and showing below average basketball instincts. Maker is a unique prospect given his size, length and mobility but the game was too fast for him on Saturday and he didn't show much in terms of touch or skill in the game after an up and down week of practice.

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Basketball-Without-Borders-Global-Camp-Evaluations-Power-Forwards-5370/
Outlook: Was a year or two older (on paper) than all the other prospects in attendance, but did not have an overwhelmingly productive camp. Somewhat stuck between the power forward and center positions. Long-term he is likely better suited for a role as an energy-giving big man rather than the superstar he was being hyped as. May need a few years in college to continue to improve his skill-level and frame.

To be fair though, at least he's competitive and has good work ethic. Again, I'm on board with him as a 2nd rounder.

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Thon-Maker-Eschews-College-Basketball--Will-Attempt-to-Enter-NBA-Draft-5415/
His competitiveness, physicality and intensity level are impressive for a 7-footer with a 9'3 standing reach, and the fact that he's been able to add some bulk to his upper body and can knock down an open 3-pointer at times bodes well for his role-playing potential. So will his work ethic and strong character. Still, his lack of offensive polish, pencil thin legs, average feel for the game and explosiveness suggest that may be the extent of his long-term upside. And considering how big the jump is from high school basketball to the NBA, it will likely take years to achieve that, which some teams may feel is not worth the time or effort it will require.

Pretty much what I would expect from a young raw prospect, lots of highlights and lowlights. Just the first I heard of him getting abused which would obviously be concerning. Wish he would of went to college but I'm not going to be the guy to totally dismiss him as a potential impact player. I'll take a flier on any kid with real talent and work ethic. We had a few hits and misses, I. E. Perkins and Green whom were raw on talent but Perk worked his ass off and became an integral piece. Green didnt take his game seriously and we know what became of that.

I've seen Maker a bunch of times over the past 3 years. His length and mobility are his only plus attributes - can't ball-handle or shoot off the dribble. Everyone fell for the Youtube **** and that's just not his skillset as an NBA player.

If he can lock in on being the best, most active defender possible he could have some value as a 4/5 mobile big man. From there it's all about him putting in a billion reps as a spot up shooter from 3.

What you are looking at is a player who is very similar to Jonas Jerebko from a skill standpoint. I'd say that is his "upside" potential if he can focus in on his core strengths and has the chops to master NBA defensive schemes.

tbh, I hope we get out of this draft. Just so many questions, to the couple answers each player has. I feel like I don't have a good grasp on these ppl. Even Bender. 1 time I think he looks sick. Next time He looks like Jan Vesely (who i thought was gonna kill it in the NBA).

Lets cash in for some sure fire talent.

Normally I'd avoid a guy like Maker, but when you have this many god damn picks you should really use a few on some true lottery-pick talents (assuming you can't trade several of the draft picks). Especially if you have a chance at stashing them in Europe; I don't know if that is a realistic avenue with Maker but the Celtics should load up on players with that profile if they can't get rid of the picks.

Just seen way too many knowledgeable folks say the same thing on Maker:

PBT’s NBA Draft expert — and Rotoworld writer — Ed Isaacson saw Maker play far more recently and sent this analysis of his skills:

“Maker has been a big name on the high school circuit the past few years, even after choosing to move and play the last couple of seasons in Canada. It’s easy to see why some people instantly like him due to his size, 7’0, with an over 7’3 wingspan, as well as his the energy he plays with on the floor. Still, even though he looks like he has added some weight and strength, his frame still has a long way to go if it’s going to fill out.
“Even if his name has been known and lauded by many at the high school level, his game has never come close to matching the hype. Though he often has a big size advantage in the low post, he rarely dominates, especially when matched up against other high-level high school players. Maker’s game in the low post is still a bit raw, with very few reliable moves. He can also knock down mid- and long-range jumpers, though the consistency isn’t there yet, and while Maker is a decent ballhandler for his size, he’ll often try to force drives right into the defense. Maker is at his best when he can get out in run the floor in transition, usually heading straight to the rim for a lob pass. Defensively, Maker can be a good shot blocker, if he’s camped around the rim, and he will battle against stronger players in the post, but he’s not a very smart defender and lacks the awareness you would hope for from a top-level big man prospect. Even if he continues to develop his skills on both ends of the floor, his understanding of the game is still way behind. He will be a project for any NBA team that picks him, and I don’t know if he’ll ever meet the early hype on him.”

Hope he does well but not really interested in the Celtics making the investment in him.

Roc Nation Sports recently announced the signing of Caris LeVert for the upcoming 2016 NBA Draft. The senior from the University of Michigan joins Kevin Durant, Skylar Diggins, Justise Winslow, Willie Cauley-Stein, Wilson Chandler, and James Young as basketball players signed with Roc Nation.

Caris Levert just jumped way up on 20 teams' draft boards in one afternoon lol.

Draftexpress has us drafting Allen with the 1st pick of the 2nd round. :D I wouldn't be surprised at all, he's an Ainge type of player.
Good assessment:

A closeted serial killer ? I am not sure he would be a good locker room guy. Gonna have to pass.

Lol. No kidding. I can picture someone calling up Ainge saying "Draft LeVert with the Dallas pick and we'll guarantee you a meeting with KD on July 1st".

I'd need a guarantee Durant would sign outright in order to waste the Dallas pick on this guy.

I think we already took one for the team with James Young, Durant OWES us. (ha ha)

Return to Boston Celtics
