This smells like when Perk was traded.

As much as I want to fight Heartless, I'm a Celtics fan first, I hope you're wrong!

I just don’t get this move. Brad preaches quick decision making on offense. We lose grit, defence and passing with this move. Totally against what was lacking last playoffs.
Is KP getting extended? Seems like too much for a rental. If so, aren’t we going to be as stuffed as PHX in a couple of years time cap wise??
KP hasn’t played with elite wings like the Js. Will be very interesting on offense.
Anything but a ring will make this trade look bad.

How is that fair to say when we have 0 titles when smart was here? If we come up just short again it would be just like all the years we had smart as far as the end result.

I’d rather we lose with Smart, than lose with a more talented roster. Just means it wasn’t Smarts fault.

Trade doesn't mean they are saying it was his fault, they thought we'd be better off with the trade. Remember, they wanted to send Brogs out instead, so if it's his fault too, why are we going to keep him?

Brogs is still a Celtics, I will support heavily until he isn't, but it should have been him and I don't think it was his fault either. I'm mad at the Clippers and I'd even root for the Lakers against them.

I agree, also mad at LAC. Both versions of the trade to get Porzingis in Boston were wins but I much rather would have seen Smart stay and Brogdon go. But not our Front Office's fault. And as much as I agree with the eventual trade it is still sad to see Smart go.

Thanks for everything Marcus, good luck in Memphis!
This is hardly even fair, the rest of the league is playing checkers and Danny Ainge is playing 12-dimensional chess.

Hard to lose Marcus. A truly old school player who did the dirty work and provided much needed toughness.

I think Marcus had given everything he could to the franchise, though. Seems as if he might've played a part in locker room tension last season and his lapses on-court in the playoffs didn't help.

Wyc, Brad, the coaching staff, and the players have known Marcus best over the years. And he was traded anyway, so however one reads that it's clear his presence was no longer desired. I'd also imagine that Brad heard the collective groan about running it back so he rocked the boat.

BTW, I just broke the news to my wife. She's shaking her head. She's a casual but we can both identify what will be missing.

 I wasn’t looking at it from that perspective but I’ll take it lol

I was looking it more from the Smart perspective & how much of a decline we’re going to see from him going forward. His calling card is his defence & I don’t think his decline in that area was because of a specific injury. Even if it was because of an injury, with the way that Smart plays he’s bound to get injured again next season. I think that combined with his age & his poor shooting & you’re going to get a guy that I think becomes near unplayable in a couple of years.

Marcus,

You know (okay ... you don't know) I was never a fan of you from the moment you were drafted. I really wanted Gordon or Exum as I was concerned about your advertised flaws.
As your first years in the league passed, you did nothiong to abate my loathing of you. Were you really a point guard? The confidence you had in your shooting, particularly three point shooting was competely unjustified. I prayed for a trade.
As the years passed I made my peace with you, I enjoyed your defensive intensity and leadership.
With the emergence of the J's, your role as a leader stood out and your defence set the standard. Of course I still found your shooting frustrated but I rooted for a new contract and you not to be traded. I loved what you would bring to the team on a night by night basis, the passion, the defence, the leadership and someone who contributed without needing the ball.
It's a sad day to see you traded, and I'll always wish you well. Thanks for the memories and I'll miss you in a Celtics uniform.
