Problem is he tried to do it and missed a wide open layup in the last minute of the game

Good point. Keep chucking away I guess.

Tbh, most of the looks were wide open. The problem I had were when they took contested threes, like Tatum did a few times tonight. But Hauser going 0-6 on wide open threes and Al basically not hitting any until the last one killed the offense in big stretches.

You're right that the Celtics didn't do a good enough job attacking and getting free throws. But they should take open threes, in the modern NBA you should. When you settle, that's what kills you, and they settled too much at the end.

Reality is there is no easy way to guard Curry, especially when Klay is hitting shots.

That’s the reason they’ve got 4 titles.

Celtics switched more late and got a few stops but the offence faltered.

Switching isn’t the easy solution though either. Curry is elite at blowing by guys, giving up the ball and then getting an open look somewhere else. Just an absurdly elite and smart player.

He was hitting wide open shots because al was dropping or backing up. looked like a couple times white and jrue got confused on who had him leading to a 3 by him then klay.

I’ll look again later because i know curry is great but there is no way he should have had that much room! How did he get open at the end is also bugging me. Forget the rebound when your man is friggen curry!!

So if your ankle is messed up why don’t you pull yourself when you know you’re hurting the team? we can’t expect Joe “Rainman” Mazzula to make such a bold move

Tonight was an absolute $hit$how.

The effect of this loss is just magnified because the Cs lost to this GSW team in the finals in 2022.

Yall better hope Tatum doesn’t leave, then you’ll really know what it’s like not to have an mvp. Criticism is fine and all but this stuff doesnt fit in that zone. Dude’s ankle was kissing the floor! Hes been clutcher than a MF, he’s not gonna get them all. The terrible shot decisions should be talked about but the other stuff is something else. Calling him a choker when the numbers say you’re wrong is valid criticism?

Agreed.

Tatum continues to get worse as a three-point shooter.

But he has been very good (if not great) in clutch moments.

He had one wide open three and that was the ridiculously deep one he hit when Horford dropped.

There was one where Horford drppped and Browj didn’t recover quick enough.

Every other three he hit featured a defender closing him out strongly.

Curry is just an insanely good player and any daylight he gets gives him a chance to torch teams.

The last three was off an offensive rebound where Whire lost him for like half a second and he still managed a good close out on him. He just hit a ridiculous shot.

I don’t think the defence on Curry was the reason we lost.

As I said there is no easy way to guard this guy. I’d say the Celtics have always done of the better jobs in the league at it and the guy still has had absurd games against us.

You shouldn't focus on his misses. Focus on the shots he hits and you'll see what a great shooter he is.

He was garbage in the 2022 finals and garbage for a fair bit of the 2023 playoff series against Philly.

If he played with more consistency and more of a killer mentality we’d have a title by now.

I don't know we've ever been good under pressure like that. Maybe we have?

I do know that our coach adds next to nothing in close/late games which bodes poorly for our chances if we run into those games in the playoffs. Especially because our team really needs help and guidance in those situations. We have the exact wrong coach for the weaknesses our team has during those moments.

I don't know that's fair? Garbage is a big word that almost never describes Tatum. Especially in the clutch where the numbers reflect how good he's been.

But there is something to the idea his mentality is different than the greats - Steph, Larry, MJ, etc. He is not that guy. He's more like McHale, who could kill you, but didn't *need* to kill you.

And if Cs win a championship and GSW fails to make the playoffs, this is just a case of much ado about nothing.

Guys have overall been playing well. I still don't like Joe as the main man for a championship type roster, which this current team is.
I don't like us jacking up 3s like crazy either when we have Jrue/White/Tatum and Brown all perfectly capable of driving.
KP will be the key for us in the playoffs, cause I feel as if he's a game changer on defense and he's a great fit on offense as well not needing to have the ball in his hands to be effective.
Good assessment:

PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

That season where we made the ECF with rookie Tatum is actually probably last when I felt okay late in games.

Forget that’s now 5 years ago.

I don’t think it’s purely a coaching thing. We have too many guys who lose their cool under pressure.

I agree with the bolded. I think Joe's fine for the 82-game season but don't trust him a whit in the playoffs. And our core guys can get rattled for sure.
