Yea, I'm not endorsing this guy's opinion as a talent scout. But a few other notable draft twitter guys weren't that high on Hugo either. I get that Hugo was a teenager on Real Madrid so he wasn't in a featured role but he also didn't do that much in his opportunity. I saw someone compare his defense to Marcus Smart but Hugo tallied 1.0 steals per 36. Marcus Smart in his draft year at Okla State averaged 3.2 steals per 36 min.

Maybe if Hugo had gone to Amreican college, he'd have dominated in the NCAA, and we'd never get a chance to take him bc he'd be off the board at pick #28. And maybe we just luck out that he got hidden by his coaches and we are going to benefit. I am hoping so anyway...

Five drafts into the Brad Stevens presidency and Hugo is only the 2nd first round pick we've made and given our lack of young talent, we really need to start hitting on some draft picks

Smart2Nesmith43 wrote:Gonzalez isn't a perfect prospect, he wouldn't have lasted until 28 otherwise but to put Williams in the same ballpark as a prospect let alone above is absolutely wild. I went back to see what he had to say about the Celtics 2024 draft class and he starts by saying he had Scheierman and Watson ranked right next to each other. He is at least consistent in overvaluing bigs that can't shoot over multifaceted wings, although I don't know why anybody who has watched any NBA content in the last decade would do that. So yeah, I don't think I'll bother seeking out his opinion on future Celtics draft classes.

FWIW, I think pretty much everyone (Draft Twitter, mainstream draft analysts, etc.) had Hugo in the top 35. Pretty much everyone had him somewhere in the 21-34 range..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

For the most part, but Givony/Vecenie boards seem to factor in team intel as much as their own rankings. Guys like Hoop Intellect and Ben Pfeifer had him in that range but moreso early 30s than 20s. And Matt Powers from Swish Theory had Hugo 37.

I am starting to like the pick more thinking about all the ways Hugo can cut off ball and play with a hot motor. But on draft night, I wasnt that excited because I wanted Fleming more.

Im looking forward to Vegas summer league for sure.

Yeah, he's gonna be in the rotation as a rookie.

Excited to see what he can do and to see him develop.

I feel like people still underestimate how much better Real Madrid is vs any college program.

Just being there among pros every day is a much higher level environment than anything college can offer.

Watch him light up the summer league, that's when the real hype begins.

To that point, the last time Real played against NBA competition in October 2023 (during the preseason), they beat the Dallas Mavericks mere months before the Mavs went to the NBA finals. A (very) young Hugo Gonzalez played 5 minutes that night.

Also worth noting that everybody knew Gonzalez was leaving at the end of this season so there was no real incentive for Madrid to give him developmental minutes. He earned the playing time he got.

He has a clue.

There was a play that a shot was missed and instead of going for the rebound he smacked the ball against the backboard and Bassey grabbed the ball and put it back in.

Never saw that before.

After one summer league game…
Gonzales > Flagg

JK
But I like what I see.
Weird with the free throws, but not worried.

We didn't get to see much of Hugo's cutting skills but then again, there was no real PG on the court and there was hardly any system on offense. I think that would be his primary skill on offense at least to start his NBA career.

Defense and motor I'd say as good as advertised. He's a pest.

I couldn't find any Hugos that have logged NBA minutes

According to Chat GPT, there has not been any Hugo to play an NBA game.

The first will either be Hugo Gonzalez, or Hugo Besson, a french player who is a draft and stash right now..draft a couple yrs ago..

I'm sorry, but I want to smash my face into a wall anytime someone cites ChatGPT as a source.

Why?

And also be careful what you say…singularity is around the corner and ChatGPT might not understand that your speaking metaphorically.

No doubt after many many years american scouts still underestimate euro players when drafted. Doncic was euroleague mvp yeras ago at 18/19 years, did not get picked first.

Im sure if Hugo played Ncaa he would be picked in 10.-15.range. Time will tell, but imo Brad made a great pick, a loterry pick!

It will literally lie your face and when call bull**** it says sorry I lie sometimes.

And when it’s not it’s taking sources from Jared in Revere and buzz feed and every other trash click bait site and spewing it all together.

There’s decent evidence that it actually makes you stupider.

Not sure what else we need but it’s super annoying to spam its responses here.

Don't forget the massive theft of intellectual property those models have been built on too.

Just going off one clip, but he seems to have pretty good vision (or good BBIQ or both). He knows where people are and where they are going to be.

It is also being used to buffalo the common man into thinking that all-seeing and knowing AI is about to take over the world, as well as a distraction while they squeeze the life out of traditional search to get to the long-stated goal of simply providing one "answer" to any search question. Orwellian on steroids.
