Forget nomenclature focus on opponent. The Celtics need Minott to defend Giannis and Banchero. He needs to get stronger.

The other consideration is switching onto the opponent's center when you need to rotate.

He looks pretty strong to me. Sure adding 5 pounds of muscle would be awesome for most everyone but I think he is ok.

Can Minott defend guys like Evan Mobley, Siakim or Giannis? If he can that's obviously hugely beneficial to the Celtics. Would allow Tatum to expend less energy on defense. Tonight should help answer that question.

I don't think Josh is overly skinny but most guys will get bigger between 22 and 25 if they work at it. Look at Tatum's progression.

Good call -- and he did awesome against Mobley tonight!

Yup..height wise he looks pretty similar to Tatum. They're both listed at 6'8" but on film they look like they are really pushing 6'9"..

Tatum is stronger but he's like 5 years older too. If Minott keeps hitting the weight room, he could look like tatum when he's 27.

My guess is Tatum is around 230-235 lbs now and Minott is around 215-220, maybe 225..

Is it too early to be talking about the jersey retirement ceremony?

I've got him at 215-220. He doesn't have the muscle definition you'd expect, but he does have muscle. How much muscle could the reasonably gain? Could he keep his game at 230-240?

If he keeps this up I will get to tell fans on my board I told them so. As much as I wish he was still a wolf, I am just thrilled he is getting a chance to shine. Our… frustrating (polite way to put it,) HC loves to deny young players their chance to prove themselves.

Walsh and Scheierman should view Minott's rise as a challenge.

Ya, it's a tradeoff. If he gains much more weight, then he might not be as bouncy, quick, agile, athletic, explosive.

Maybe just add a few more lbs of strength and he's good. Which will probably happen naturally for a guy who's only 22, as long as he keeps hitting the weight room, which of course pretty much all of these guys do.

I'm not ready to disparage Walsh based on Minott's early success this year. IMO Minott has benefited somewhat with a right time situation with the C's. And how he's used offensively will be interesting to observe. I noted his increased usage as a screen setter, especially at the start of the game. He had a good 3pt shooting night, unfortunate to be put in a no win situation on his last 3 attempt by White. But if the staff continues to let him function more than just a corner dweller and board crasher on offense, it makes it easier to play him even if the 3pt shot gets less reliable.

The Cavs were 1/12 shooting when Josh Minott was the primary defender, per NBA tracking. Evan Mobley shot 0/6 FG & 0/3 3FG when guarded by Josh Minott.

KP did a pretty good job on Mobley too to be fair but Minott did a great job last night.

Minott hitting corner threes is what really surprises me. That alone makes him the right guy for the starting lineup

Been ages since we've had a player like Minott. He's got some Tony Allen in him. Maybe a bigger Avery Bradley.

Brissett was just 2 years ago. Small sample size and more of an opportunity on a much worse team for Minott but he looks to be a better version of Brissett while being like 3 yrs younger..

Yeah, that's fair. I guess I was thinking more of guys that were material contributors. Brissett was fringe-y.

I def don't compare Brissett to Minott.

Like you said Brissett barely played. Minott already started more games than Brissett did.
