No, for the reason I posted above. If the Pacers get Hayward for fair value, then they should hold onto Oladipo in the hope of full recovery rather than trade him away at a discount. If that works out, they could have a really good squad.

This logic of course assumes they'd be willing to pay a whole starting lineup of Brogdon, Oladipo, Hayward, Warren, Sabonis.

There's no way I'm going into luxury tax this year for Oladipo+Turner. I'd like Warren+Turner but we are not getting that so I'll settle for Turner+McDermott along with giving IND cap relief by dumping TJ Leaf and Lamb to a 3rd team for minor draft assets.

This ensures we still have the MLE this year without paying tax and basically allows us to avoid repeater tax once Tatum's extension kicks in.

Did I do the numbers correctly?
Robert Horry is better than MJ, because everybody knows that 7>6.

New plan!

1. Three-team trade:
BOS gets TJ Warren, fake 2nd from OKC, $11.5M TPE, $1.5M TPE
IND gets Hayward ($100M/4 yrs), Edwards
OKC gets McDermott, Sumner (both absorbed into TPE), 2021 2nd rd pick (via MIL)

2. Sign Crowder using Full MLE.
3. Sign Baynes using BAE.
4. Sign Taj Gibson and Mo Harkless using vet minimum.

Kemba | Brown | Warren | Tatum | Baynes
Smart | Nesmith | Crowder | Grant | Theis
Pritchard | Langford | Harkless | Gibson | Timelord

Total Salary: $131.51M

✓ Size and shooting
✓ Vets and experience
✓ Good locker room guys
✓ Avoid the tax
✓ Depth
✓ Midseason flexibility to make trades

Dont worry to much about taxes, we have an other covid season on our hands.

I don't love it. But i would take this outcome regardless. But step 1 always has to be TATUM EXTENSION!

I've resigned myself to the fact that we won't get anything in return that could impact our team as positively as Hayward himself and that any real progress our team will make hinges on Tatum's progress, Jaylen taking another leap, and Kemba staying healthy. So I'll just settle for that checklist above. I'm back to thinking Turner isn't this game-changing big that we're hoping for and his salary kinda limits our other moves. So let's just try and replace Hayward's scoring, add some more shooting to the roster, and maintain defensive toughness at the center spot.

My concern with the tax is that if we don’t get under the tax one of the next 3 years, we pay repeater rates that last year. With how everyone’s salary increases over time, it’s going to be damn near impossible to get under the tax in the next 2 years without massive moves (I.e. moving Kemba). I’d rather make very minor moves to make it happen this year, that way we just never have to worry about it again. Repeater tax rates just aren’t a thing for is anymore if we do. And that could mean no penny pinching with taking back salaries in trades down the line or using our exceptions. It just eliminates any potential headaches.

All the leaks are making it clear that Ainge is operating like he has the Pacers over a barrel. If Hayward joins the Knicks it might teach Ainge a lesson that you don't need to rob the other team blind every time you make a damn trade.

Don't think Hayward is motivated to 'teach Ainge a lesson' for dragging things out for *checks notes* six hours after free agency kicks off.

He might not trust him to act with his best interests in mind. That is entirely possible and understandable.

18 mil for Turner is crazy overpay when you look at what guys are getting this off season. No wonder Indiana is a treadmill team handing out contracts like that to 4th option roleplayers.

Turner has lots of value around the league. He could always be dealt elsewhere for value.

The good news is that Turner would be a 4th option role player here. Maybe 5th. So it doesn't really matter what kind of contract he has. Worst case he keeps the salary spot open.

Jae likely gets a bigger contract elsewhere (maybe MIA) or an MLE from his preferred city, but if he ends up in Boston, it would be funny that he would replace Hayward as he was replaced by Hayward in 2017. There was also this tweet of course heading into Hayward's free agency:

Then Crowder was involved in Hayward's career-altering injury in Cleveland.

Turner was an awful fit in Indiana with Sabonis emerging and taking frontcourt priority. He's still only 25 with his prime ahead of him

No one can try to convince me that this mofo didnt try to injure Hayward on purpose.

How did Turner go from DPOY candidate a year ago to people thinking he sucks?

Lad was averaging 12 and 5 this year and was outplayed by Sabonis. He's athletic and tall 12 and 5 is really underwhelming.
Good assessment:
