If he joins a team that might end up being the next super team there's zero chance he leaves for LA. None.
Except for the fact that he's already flat out said he'd like to play for the Lakers. He's been tied to them for about a year now. And they have time to make moves to bring in other stars along with him.
Why are people acting like he didn't say he'd prefer the Lakers? I'm just taking the guy at his word. I've never had any reason to believe Paul George is a liar.
People are reading waaayy too much into this narrative the media has pushed. His agent said they plan to go to LA. George said he prefers LA. People close to him have said Boston is a good long term fit for him. He wants to play with Hayward.
He simply said he prefers LA. I prefer to have my own therapy practice in NH, but it may not be the case and I'll still be happy and successful opening one here. It's just an expressed preference, one of which the perception of has been skewed by the media, rationalization, paranoia, and bias.
You take this chance. Him leaving for LA is not set in stone. Him staying doesn't make him a liar either. WAY too many semantics going on with this LA thing. It's such a story. A preference, sure, but that's all it is.
He obviously could change his mind, but I'd rather not take the risk. If you want to be a Celtic, sign the extension (or at least give us a verbal agreement) to stay long term. If he refuses to, I'm led to believe he still would prefer to go to the Lakers and we could be sitting here completely empty handed a year from now. I'd probably be more inclined to take the risk if it wasn't the Lakers as the possible destination he bolts too. It would be an epic fail if the Celtics finally land their star, only to lose him to their biggest rival a year later.
