The moving needle is our competitiveness this year and over the next 2-3 years with Jaylen and Tatum stepping up (all the time? sometimes?) alongside Hayward vs. the value we can get for Hayward in a two steps backward to take three forward way.

(I'm not trying to argue anything here. Just thinking out loud. He is so tall and we probably don't have the assets to win right now, so what if Danny and Co. think that there is a 5% chance he could be a str and decide to really try to make that happen. How?)

Then they'll give him a roster spot, because they don't want to risk losing him going through waivers. It was interesting to see them run a couple of old school plays through him in the fourth, posting him up and letting him draw and pass out of the double team. That was the pick and roll of the old NBA. With his height, he'll always have an advantage in seeing over... the entire defense.

Smart, Brown and Tatum made a statement last night (in a meaningless game). Our three lottery picks are ready to take center stage this year.

I think it's time to have a discussion about Marcus Smarts ceiling, could it be higher than many thought?

Not sure. He's the absolute best back-up point guard in the league, and good enough to start as a role-player. He's turned himself into a basic playmaker - he's not Luka or Lonzo, or even Tremont Waters, but he's a very very competent floor general. He seems to have fixed his shot, he might even project as a good shooter now. And he's got so much poise on the court now with the ball in his hands, it was clear for FIBA, too. He drives very deliberately, with good hesitation and awareness, he knows how to get defenders on his shoulder, and he's working on a little bit of a move set near the rim - he tried out a kind of hook layup last night he's clearly been practicing. What's happened to those little floaters he used to throw up? Does he have any post-up game? The one big disappointment with Marcus is that coming into the draft he looked a little bit like a young Tyreke Evans - there were clips of him making contact with two or three vertical defenders and laying the ball in. I don't know if he ever gets strong enough to be able to finish easily at the rim.. but he grinds so hard it wouldn't surprise me if he adds more to his game as a scorer.

I would too. Kind of more interested to see how he could defend them, even though his dunks are what catches your eye. If we don't sign him, somebody will.

I think Miami will try to do something else, but Hayward to MIA, filler money (Waiters/Leonard/MIL 1st?) to OKC, Winslow and Adams to BOS would make us younger, stronger, more cap flexible, and cement a team-first ethos with two physical, hustling, selfless defenders. Winslow may never reach Hayward’s level as a scorer or shooter - but he’s a good and willing passer and a Smart-like defender. He can play and guard 1-4. Adams rebounds, boxes out, sets brick wall screens, passes shrewdly, and probably has some emerging shooting ability.

Kemba/Smart/Wanamaker/(Waters)
Brown/Edwards/Langford
Winslow/Ojeleye/(Green)
Tatum/Grant/Theis
Adams/Kanter/Williams/Poirier

Or send Wanamaker to MIA and give his spot to Tacko..

You end up guaranteeing it’s a bridge year, putting more weight on the bar for Brown and Tatum as scorers - if they can do it, we’re top 3 in the East this year.

We already signed him. He can’t go to G league - we paid him too much. He either makes roster or gets cut.

atm i'm keeping green over semi. green os a good enough defender to fill semi's role as deep wing backup. semi being giannis kryptonite was always a bit overrated anyways.
javonte brings nba-level athleticism that semi can only dream of, and fits our fast pace better.
it comes down to semi vs wanamaker, and brad is just a solid pro so i keep him.

Sure, his 100K contract. All I'm saying is that I think he makes somebody's regular 15 man roster, either ours or somebody elses.

Can we stop with the Steven Adams silliness? He's a terrible fit for Stevens' system.
The player Ainge needs to target is Sabonis. There will be a ton of rumors this year about KAT after the Wolves season goes into the toilet (which it mot likely will by Christmas) but KAT is so bad defensively that he's not worth pursuing.

At 26, he's a grown man.

This video shows he can hit 3 and has more game than dunking lobs. I can’t tell how good he is because he only gets garbage time. I’m sure that Brad and Danny know exactly how good he is from practicing against a deep group of wings. I’d actually like to see him start a preseason game and see him play with Kemba. I feel like this guy is going to make it in NBA and a lot of teams need quality wings right now. He is so much better than Abdel Nader was.

I don’t know if it was the same play just from two different angles, but either way even if it only happened once that 360 dunk to avoid the defender was insane.

Apparently, Green played 3 games for the Phoenix Suns summer league team in 2018. His numbers were better than Josh, Dragon and Mikal. Josh scored more 10.3 vs 8.7. But at 0.244 vs 0.750 (total) and 0.091 vs 0.500 (3%). And Josh played twice as many minutes.

Would Boston add the Memphis pick to Hayward, Langford and Brown for Beal and filler?

Too much. I'd say 2 of those players and 2 other non griz picks. Not griz pick.

We don’t have anyone with the raw talent of Zion, Doncic, Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell, even Lonzo Ball. Tatum has some of it as a scorer, and he’s got the upside to become dominant eventually, like Giannis or Paul George, but right now he doesn’t have the ability to impact a game like those players, to take it over.

I agree.

Being down about what has happened and the moves or lack of moves Danny has made seems to be frowned upon around here though.

Lonzo more talented and dominant than Tatum? Really??

Lonzo has shown zero in the NBA. Not sure where the narrative is coming from.
