We just traded a player that wasn't seeing the light of day for two other players that can't play right now & saved money; what is there to really complain about?

The last two years of Tatum and Brown’s young careers were spent cutting coupons, pinching pennies and getting under the tax.

If the goal is to get Tatum and Brown to start thinking about playing somewhere else then the Celtics are going about it the right way.

Again, I am hopeful a more impactful move could be coming.

If I am Tatum and the Celtics don’t do something significant either this trade deadline or the summer I’m thinking get me the heck out of here. Pressure is on Stevens and the Celtics

We might just end up with Kuzma plus fillers in a year or 2, if we stood pat again. Lol

Last year was really the only year we didn't "go all in" to at least start the season & I think that was by design as it was clear this core just isn't quite good enough. The year before that we brought in Kemba. You can argue it wasn't the right move but they were trying to go for it still.

I think this year, we started the season over the tax & depending on how the season went, we would go one of two ways:
1. Start off strong and look like dark horse contenders & try to bring in some pieces to make us a true threat, regardless of what that meant for tax implications.
2. What seems to be happening: we're not contenders yet, so let's do what we can financially (get under the tax now) to set us up for the necessary moves when it is time.

I do agree, an impactful move needs to come soon, which to me, is this offseason. We'll be under the tax with a bunch of valuable expiring deals (also by design this offseason). The one part I think we've failed in is showcasing young talent to make a deal more appealing for a star. But that's not this current regime's fault really.

Would we be better today if we'd kept Rozier and traded Marcus for help at a different position? Or imagine he got you Lonzo from NOP last year..

It doesn't feel like it because we're not in the lottery and we weren't a true contender, but it's been a brutal few years - Kyrie gone, Horford gone, Rozier gone for Kemba, Hayward gone, Kemba gone... Hayward getting hurt, Kemba getting hurt.. Hayward and Rozier weren't playing big roles for us but we just hemorrhaged value for years.

That said, getting Kyrie for IT's grandma hip and the Sexton pick was incredible luck, and getting Rob at 27 - I said this at the time - was incredible luck. Imagine how much worse we'd be and how much dimmer the future right now if we didn't have Williams coming on.

The problem is turnovers. The Celtics are 23rd in the league in turnovers and they are also in the bottom five in assists. They are not a good passing team and they don't protect the ball. And the two feed off each other: the inability and/or unwillingness to pass leads to more turnovers.

These are not problems easily fixed in trades, since the biggest culprits are the two untouchables.

1) The Celtics do not for that stretch. They are 7th.
2) Go back 15 games and the Celtics are ranked 20th.

The problems you highlight are real, but so is shooting.

It's an interesting deadline. The Jays will be better next season because of this one. But it's not clear how close we are to winning or losing.

If you keep Schroeder and Josh, screw the tax and take a player into the Fournier TPE - McDermott, Covington, Terence Ross, Olynyk, Nance, Kyle Anderson - and another into the Thompson TPE - Tyus Jones, Delon Wright, Theis, Cedi Osman, Bamba, (assuming you're paying a 2nd or willing to give up a 1st for both)... would that really unlock, like, a 50-55 win team? Are we a Larry Nance and Cedi Osman away?

If we move Josh to open minutes for Langsmith and deal Schroeder to get under the tax, do we become a 35 win team?

If only we didn't trade Rozier for Kemba. Didn't think I'd ever say that a few years ago, but we'd be in way better shape now if that never happened.

So where is Schroder going?
And who is our scoring wing that Brad wants?

Not much in terms of an offensive synergy standpoint. Rozier thrives off another player being the main playmaker. The shooting would be nice, but Rozier's playstyle is very much self creation

We’re honestly horrible at finding the open players. In our stars’ mind, taking over means I’m calling my number. This often translates to long shots or drives to the basket that are brilliantly defended. There’s alwats a nesmith or langford or brown or tatum sitting open at the 3 point line. The ball never gets there even if the defense has collapsed. If you start looking foe this you will notice every other offensive play results to this. Honestly so annoying to watch.

We need them to find the open man.

Schroeder's gone unless we have a different path under the tax, like him, want to stay competitive, and hope we're lucky enough to keep him (Milwaukee hung onto Bobby Portis for 4.5 million a year)..

Smart's here because we won't like the offers, and even a good offer would leave us with nothing left at the point. He's hard to replace.

The swing piece to me is Richardson. He's great value, playing the best he has in years, a solid rotation keeper or a salary chip in the summer. I can imagine his market going either way. 28 year old wing defender shooting 45/41/85 on 12 million a year? Great on paper. Depending on what you take back in money, could open up a TPE to use on Nance, Kyle Anderson, Tyus Jones, Delon Wright.. Cory Joseph, if Detroit moved him..

Has Keith or anyone else reported exactly how far above the tax line we are post-trade? Have only seen Brian Robb claiming 800k.. that means losing one of Bol/Dozier/Fernando/Enes gets you under. Or you have a little more wiggle room trading DS

There is a path to get Caris Levert and stay under the tax, fwiw.. since we're interested in a "playmaking wing" and he's the only one out there.

Hayward is another. Horford and Romeo for Gordon works. ;)

I'm so not a Caris Levert guy. He was overrated long before Horton-Tucker.
