Imo the only way we get Beal is giving up PP and Nesmith. Beal is a straight bucket, and young

Re: Hard to Believe Ainge will Make any Move Soon Trade Thread
Some of the hypothetical trades being proposed in this thread are completely unrealistic and lack perspective.
The players that some of you are hoping to acquire are legitimately good players. You have to give something of value up to get value back in return.
If you want a legitimately good player, a high calibre starter you'll have to part with Smart to start with.
Packaging up our least valuable assets and future late first round picks are relatively worthless.
Ask yourself, do you believe after calling around the league and asking 28 other GM's that there isn't a single team that wants the same player and is likely willing to offer a better package than the relatively insignificant scraps of low demand you are trying to bundle up and purge this roster of?
Take off your homer glasses. Pretend you are the GM of the team with the player you want. If you were that GM and were offered the package you have floated in this thread in return for said player would you make the deal?

Watching Theis the last few games get easy basket after easy basket makes me want to envision Vucevic getting those looks consistently.

I would, too.. he can fix his shot, the issue is that he’s not able to get to the rim and finish reliably, it’s dragging his percentages down - no easy baskets. He’s better than he looks right now.
But I would also be happy to see us pick up Frank Ntilikina - tall, long, great defense at three positions, shot coming along, upside as a playmaker - so I’m not really an objective judge.
Agreed. Ball shot 37.% from 3 last year and he was an excellent defender. I don't buy for a minute that he's washed. He'd be excellent here running our sets, running the break with the Jay's. He'd get everyone easy looks and help increase the pace. I think he'd be awesome.
Hence, why Danny will never trade for him.
I think there is ZERO chance Ball would resign here next year unless he is a starter. Would you trade Ball for a rental? or do you think Boston would even start him? and over who?

A side note on Lonzo. I love, maybe more than anything in Basketball, good switchable defenders with size. Ball at 6'6 and very willing to pass would be a plus.

Re: Hard to Believe Ainge will Make any Move Soon Trade Thread
Lonzo is interesting because he'd provide what Smart does albeit not as elite defensively but I think he'll be a better spot up 3pt shooter. Now if his new contract will be similiar to Smart's current one, I'd get Lonzo to replace him and move Smart and pieces for a wing/big.
This works in the trade machine:
Bos sends Smart, Grant, Romeo, 2 firsts and a 2nd
Receives Lonzo, Collins and Melli
Atl sends Collins, Snell
Receives Smart, Grant, 2 C's FRP
NO sends Ball, Melli
Receives Romeo, Snell (expiring) and a 2nd
Atlanta gets a defensive boost with 2 frp for a guy thats RFA next year and isn't meshing with Trae
NO gets something for nothing, maybe they'll prefer Nesmith for the shooting?
We get a 23yo PF that can handle the rock a bit, finish all kinds of lobs, shoots the 3 at .400 for a 2nd season in a row. Last year he averaged 22/10 with 1.6bpg and 0.8spg on 58/40/80.
Imo this is a guy who compliments Jays the best. Lethal offball big that shoots well, attacks closeouts and finishes around the basket efficiently. Not a defensive savant, but at only 23 years old with great athleticism I don't see why he can't improve.
Now this would take us out of a potential Beal move, but I believe Jays can take on full playmaking responsibilities anyway as they improve with the years

Hmm...thought there were restrictions on combining the TPE, so still dunno how that works.
Regardless, I'd be on board with the basic concept of 2 FR picks, plus say Romeo and Grant.
Tristan Thompson is trade eligible in a few days, and is certainly not an issue to include as well. Dump/trade Javonte, Waters as required.
Vucevic fits in the TPE.
Thompson, once he's tradeable, could provide much but not all of the salary in a deal for Ross. Adding other players would quickly get the outgoing salary high enough to work.
The thing you're overlooking here is the Celtics cap situation. You're completely right that these transactions Vucevic <=> TPE (+ assets) and Ross <=> Thompson (+ asset) in a vacuum work without any trouble.
The issue is that the Celtics are only $17M below the luxury tax, and resetting the clock on a potential repeater tax is a big deal. Even if you ignore that, the Celtics are hardcapped because they signed Thompson for the full MLE (which is only allowed for non-taxpayer teams). So the Celtics can't take on $26M in additional salary. If Vucevic and Ross come in then Smart or Walker needs to go to make these trades legal to fulfil salary cap rules.
Frankly I don't see the point of including Ross anyway. I'm sure some contender will happily take on Ross if Orlando wants him gone.
And if the Celtics trade for Vucevic then Thompson becomes redundant and by involving him in the trade automatically assures the Celtics ability to stay out of the luxury tax.
Unlike a lot of trade proposals a deal between Orlando and the Boston with Vucevic makes a lot of sense for both teams and it's easy to arrange. The concern I have is that Orlando is really reluctant to make big moves, so I'm afraid they won't listen to reasonable offers because they have misplaced ambitions to make the playoffs and don't trust their own ability to negotiate a deal that benifits them in the longterm.
Look at the series of bad deals they made in the past:
Tobias Harris to Detroit in exchange for Brandon Jennings + Ersan Ilyasova
Victor Oladipo + Domantas Sabonis + Ersan Ilyasova to Oklahoma City in exchange for Serge Ibaka

Serge Ibaka to Toronto in exchange for Terrence Ross + 1st round pick(= Anžejs Pasečņiks)
To illustrate the passiveness of this franchise: the Orlando Magic haven't made a single trade since February 2019!!!

With all the Beal, Harden, Ball talk I think we are somewhat missing the point. We should be looking at bigger players. Long term we could run Smart, Brown and Tatum at the 1 2 3. We still have Kemba. And there is a decent chance that one of PP, Nesmith and Romeo looks good down the road. Not saying we should only look at centers, but I don't see the point in giving up assets to bring in a guard.

And if we do want to bring in another guard the correct answer (as it has always been) is of course Rondo. If any of our guards go down, we should offer the Hawks whomever we feel is the lesser of Nesmith and Romeo plus a late 1st and one of the end of the bench guys (Carson or Waters.) That's a decent trade for them

Hayward was worst ... we need someone to replace him and I find Zach Lavine is a good choice! And we won’t get worse.

That seems like a massive overpay for a guy who switches teams in free agency every year or two.

I would LOVE to add Lonzo at the cost of a FRP. LOVE.
Seeing a second unit of Lonzo-Javonte-Jaylen-Semi-Timelord would be fun AF.

To the people replying ‘Smart is a better version of Lonzo’: SO WHAT? With Lonzo we’d always have one ‘Smart’ on the floor and I am here for that.

I’ll take Bjelica off the bench in the Semi/Grant role and try to nab Will Barton from Denver with the larger TPE and a first rounder. He could start here and Smart would move back to the bench to command the second unit.
Thompson/Theis/Timelord
Tatum/Bjelica
Brown/Nesmith/Langford
Barton/Smart
Kemba/Pritchard/Teague
