Per Shams, he was signed to a 3-year $14M extension when the interim tag was removed last season. So two years left.

What a bargain !!! :)

Still i do hope Wyc and the Front Office give him some job security and a pay raise this off season.

^ The tweet seems to have been deleted now for some reason but it said, "Joe Mazzulla on Lowe Post said he has perfect recall of the last 20 years but zero memories of anything before that. Also said he still drives a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick because the threat of it breaking down forces him to always be early and that he only keeps carnivorous plants."

The first tweet was a joke that I think maybe escaped its audience by feeling a little too real

Only because it's hard to come up with something so ridiculous and extreme that you could clearly tell Mazzulla would never say it. :D

Here to own up to my share of crow pie, I was a Mazzula skeptic last year, softened a bit as this year progressed, stuffed some PTSD Miami game two, but after his performance from then on - plus the inside peaks provided by the players and his own relaxed/openness/confidence with the press - I'm more than happy to admit I was wrong...

... at least in terms of his trajectory *wink*

Eff it feed me more crow :)

Jaylen is playing better., more consistent and engaging type of hoops than at any point in his career.

Tatum is putting less superstar scoring numbers yes, but his defensive game and rebounding game is way up on the production on those ends he was giving us under Ime.

Derrick White has also evolved into a arguably an All Star/All NBA 3rd team player under Mazz.

Once Joe (and he will, make no mistake he will) tap into Jayson Tatum's psyche and ensure he runs the keys and car to our team, it's game over for the rest of the league, including Denver.

I like Ime and thought he was great for where we were, but don't agree at all about tactics and strategy, I think it was his weak point. Ime to me is like the Jimmy Butler of coaches, macho come follow me style or I'll slap you in the face, but I got your back too. He relies heavily on his assistants for a lot of things beyond his base ideology of defense, move the ball and trust each other. At Celtics he had access to a healthy Rob Williams that made us a defensive giant, but it was switch everything all the time with a great roster that allowed it, then Rob as the safety. There weren't adjustments and there wasn't much offensive creativity. I find Ime to be a bit of a one trick pony and very conventional.

IMO Joe is far more strategically advanced and creative, sometimes too much so for some on here. With Joe he needs to learn to reign that in when called for during the playoffs if anything.

Absolutely spot on. You only have to watch their press conferences to see it.

Hot take but Ime screwing around was the best thing that could’ve happened to us. Unless you have an offensive wizard like a Lebron/Jokic/Luka on your team you need an X’s & O’s specialist & Joe is quickly becoming that. Ime was only going to take us so far with the “tough love” type coaching philosophy because as good as Tatum is he’s not on the level offensively as the names I mentioned.

People can say this is crazy take but I truly believe Joe’s going to be an all time great coach. He’a only young & he’s still learning & I get the team is extremely talented but to be leading them to the 4th greatest net rating of all time in his second year is kind of insane. You add to the fact he’s a little crazy with a “no **** given” attitude & you’ve got all the makings of what you see in a lot of the greatest coaches we’ve seen.

Said this back on March 15. Definitely a lot more confident about it now 8-)

Captain_Caveman wrote:Don't kid yourselves, Joe Mazzulla is a **** tier coach and that makes us entirely beatable.

In the fly-by-night, 3 games in 4 days nature of the regular season, this often gets obscured. The only times coaching even matters is at the end of games and in the playoffs, and Joe has looked consistently hapless in either. Pretty much every time a team can make it a close game late, we struggle. And it is not a fluke. Ball movement, gone. Iso iso iso iso iso, with no set plays and our stars holding the ball before driving into traffic.

Tonight notwithstanding, we are too much offensively for bad teams, but that's not who you play deep in the playoffs. When we get to playing the top teams with the top coaches in the real games, Joe's inability to make any adjustments or even call plays will be a major weakness.

Maybe we can still overcome it, but this team not the favorite or the powerhouse that many seem to think.

This guy is GARBAGE.

That is all.

Captain_Caveman wrote:I see what I see. Like with Jaylen last year. Maybe you should listen this time, so you don't humiliate the living **** out of yourself going in on me again. Because you sure did. Are we perfectly clear on that? It wasn't even a lesson in basketball I wanted to give, but man, you sure wanted it and you sure got it. Real, real bad, in fact. Pretty amazing you still want to to talk trash to me after that, but hey, no one ever said you needed to have pride to post here. Completely embarrassing, but you do do.

Anyhow, I have generally been one of the more optimistic posters since I started posting here. Never bashed Doc or Ainge, and like Brad just fine. But Joe sucks, sorry. Not even his or anyone's fault but Ime's. We got screwed with that. But here we are. A coach in over his head, a soft af starting center, an iffy bench, and a starting SG that still can't dribble with his left hand.

Hope it works. Several valid reasons why it may not, even in another season of no elite teams.

All year, Psycho Joe knew the Celtics were gonna win and they were gonna win at home -- so either game 5 or game 7. Game 4 loss was inevitable if not orchestrated lol.

EDIT: Here's the quote from episode 5 of All-In doc.

I absolutely feel like they threw game 4 intentionally lol. Especially after going up 3-0 they didn’t really have that much to lose after they took just about everything Dallas had.
