"the Northman" was a pretty cool film. From the writer of "the Witch". And it's cool he is a graduate from the high school I teach at.

That’s on my wish list. The Witch was excellent.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I enjoyed it but it was way overhyped. The Witch is a much better movie imo.

If you guys have kids or are just an overgrown kid like me, that animated movie The Bad Guys is a ton of fun. It's on Peacock.

Also liked the movie Last Night in Soho. It's on HBOMAX now. Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie, who I enjoy for various reasons.

It was really good. We took our son the night it opened in theaters.

Finished first two seasons of Berlin Station (Richard Armitage, Rhys Ifans) and The Terminal List (Chris Pratt). They're just ok. I'm just into spy/special military ops stuff so I can sit through most of these. Need Celtics back asap though lol.

Just finished Last Chance U: Basketball. Man, that thing was heart-wrenching.

Just saw The Boys season finale too. A bit disappointed with the finale honestly.

Just saw L.A. Confidential, from 1997. A corker from start to finish (and it's pretty long for today's standards).

Just finished the finale of the boys season 3 and I watched the second half of the season of stranger things this weekend as well. I thought S3 of the boys was better than S4 of stranger things. Many spoilers in the spoiler...

Spoiler:
I love how complex most of the characters in the boys are. Homelander is such a great tragic hero. He's a monster but what do you expect from a guy raised by a corporation, never given any love as a child. He tries to find family with soldier boy but no luck. As the finale showed homelander loves his son.

Meave, Hughie, MM, Frenchie, A Train, Kimiko, Deep are all quality characters who exhibit both good and bad traits throughout the show. I could write a paragraph about each but I won't for brevity's sake. Even Ashley the corporate red head stands up to homelander at one point in the season.

This theme of complex characters who are all fighting their own personal battles is what makes the show so real to me despite all the super hero stuff. Contrast that with Stanger things where the bad guys have very little if any redeeming qualities and the good guys have very few if any bad qualities.

How bout Butcher putting aside his own vendetta to save ryan?!?! That totally caught me off guard and was a great moment!

I won't get too into the political stuff but I think the show does a good job of walking a fine line. I see stuff that the left wouldnt like and stuff the left would like. I see stuff the right would like and stuff they wouldnt. I think they struck a balance about as good as anyone could. LOL at the below.

Season 4 should be interesting... new bad guy with the head popper and ryan seeing homelander murder someone and get cheered on is not good. Should be fun

Finished the S3 finale of The Boys as well. It was pretty good, but a slightly disappointing end to a great season for a few reasons:

Spoiler:
1) The final showdown between Butcher, Soldier Boy, and Homelander didn't quite live up to the standard set in their Herogasm encounter. The fight wasn't as exciting considering the stakes and situation: they were in Vought Tower, everyone important to the story is converging there for a titanic showdown, and Homelander even brought his son there with him. The fight should've been more explosive and better choreographed than it was. I blame the director.

2) Black Noir's unceremonious death was tragic, but I felt cheated that we were robbed of seeing him find redemption against Soldier Boy. Leave it to this show to shatter your expectations though, I applaud the decision to kill him off like that regardless.

3) Maeve surviving that Soldier Boy blast was pretty convenient, and kind of took the shine off her supposed sacrifice. Also, if all that Soldier Boy's blast did was strip her of her powers, then she should've died from the fall off a thirty-storey building, no? I guess plot armor saved her, although this is probably the last we'll see of her character.

I do love where the episode left us, with Homelander realizing that his supporters are actually willing to overlook his psychotic ways, which means he'll probably be more unhinged next season. And leaving us with the image of Ryan smiling at his dad's antics is chilling. Antony Starr should be getting serious Emmy consideration, if not this year then next year. What a brilliant performance.

Overall, while I think this season was great, there were times when the story was rushed, and we don't get to linger on the aftermath of some of the show's biggest moments (like what the hell happened to Little Nina?). The story was always in a hurry to move along to the next plot point. I really wouldn't mind if the succeeding seasons would be 10 episodes or more, because there's so much being left at the table.

Spoiler:
Herogasm definitely felt like the height of the season with episodes 8 and 9 not matching the intensity and excitement that herogasm delivered. Definitely a bit odd and not ideal.

I don't disagree with anything you wrote although I didn't feel to bad about Noir. I never really connected with him. Agree on Meave. She clearly should have died. If she didn't die are we sure Soldier Boy did? I kind of think he did as that storyline seems to have run it's course and they are setting up for new story lines.

Also Starlight is a little too pure of heart compared to the other characters in the show. Wouldn't mind seeing her taken down a peg in the forth coming seasons but I also don't think I'm gonna get my wish on this one.

Funny, I just started it last night and said the same thing of why my wife might not dig it, which is stress. And she doesn't stress easily. I haven't read the article as I am only on episode 5 or 6. It got late last night.

New episode of Better Call Saul premiered last night. That show is absolutely incredible. First 3 seasons were very good, last 3 seasons are up there with the best television ever. I probably need to re-watch Breaking Bad to remind myself of its greatness but BCS is pretty close to surpassing it in my mind.

We still have to see how it ends, but in my mind BCS has already surpassed Breaking Bad. Right now, it feels more and more like the whole Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul universe is really Jimmy/Saul's story. Breaking Bad feels like a side story, especially since Jimmy's story post-Heisenberg will essentially wrap everything up in this universe. Incredible show.

Once BCS ends, I'm gonna start rewatching Breaking Bad as well
