Is there any plausible way we could end up with Christian Wood, while keeping Gordon Hayward?

He opts out, resigns at a # that keeps us below the tax (assume no Kanter, Poirier). We pray Wood takes the non-tax MLE from us.

Would love that too.

I just don't expect the Knicks to be an issue. They will blow that cap space on FVV.

I would also use the same plan with Favors and be happy.

The problem with Washburn's logic is that Hayward not only loses 34M (or 38M if the Celtics trade him) but also he';s competing with the Gallinari's of the world for capspace on a few lottery teams like the Hawks and Knicks. If Gordon wants to go to a better team, he must opt in.

or opt out and sign and trade to a team without cap space.

Is that possible? I guess why not but I've can't remember anyone ever doing it. Could Hayward sign a 4 year deal with ATL and then they trade hime right away to Indy? I feel like you can't do that because I can't remember anyone ever doing it and it seems like it would happen a lot.

I'm really talking myself into a scenario where we run it back but with Wood at center. Theis as the first big off the bench, Smart the 6th man, Nesmith as the sharpshooter. Plus guys like the Williams', Langford, etc to round out the rotation based on matchups.

Technically, Kanter and Hayward don't need to say anything to opt out. If they let the deadline pass, that means they're UFA.

I think it is the other way. They have to option to terminate their contract. They have to do something to leave if they do nothing then the final year kicks in.
