Not really it needs to be 24-25M which could be many different combos.

KP for Brandon Clarke does not work on the trade machine.

Removing 24-25m only takes the Cs below the 2nd apron.

They will still be a repeater if they don't get out of luxury tax territory.

Who the hell is Brandon Clarke? My old buddy’s name is Clark Brandon, 70s/80s TV teen star. He was in Facts of Life among many others.

He can just say im not playing for that team and goes into buyout. And trade doenst happen. Or he cant get extension from team hes traded to

That’s how Boston got him so cheaply to begin with.

We got him because he opted into his last year and they he got 2 year extension after the trade was done

Right but he could have declined his option and gone where he wanted, meaning WAS wasn't trading him, they were just helping him get were he wanted to go anyway. Ie they didn't have any negotiating position since they didn't control his contract.

There's a 1 week window after the finals to make trades using the 2024-25 salaries.

By July 1 the 2025-26 salaries will take effect on trades.

Yes. It would have to be something like Schroeder and Hardaway Jr. who are free agents July 1 for Holiday, the week prior

Charlotte - Okogie (7.75mil)
Houston - Holiday (4.9mil team option)

Smaller multi year deals they can take on at the deadline

Chicago - Jalen Smith (2yrs 18.5mil)
Memphis - Konchar (2yrs 12.3mil)
Houston - Londale (2yrs 16mil with team option)

New rules don't allow KP's contract to be traded for a player having a salary of 8m.

I checked and it won't work.

Like KP for Brandon Clarke does not work.

Try to imagine there are other smaller pieces involved that I’m not taking the time to spell out here.

Yeah, but it ain't worth it IMO.

According to the trade machine, since the Cs are dealing with a non-apron team, it would have to be Clarke, Konchar, and Edey for KP.

Celts just save around 6m if that's the case.

This is going to be tricky.

Sure it’s tricky but people following along will recognize that Brad’s already had the communication necessary to frame out the majority of the deals he could make.

It’s why he was able to pivot so quickly on things like say eg the original Porzingis deal and trade heart and soul Marcus Smart at the drop of a dime.

Because he already knew where and for who all these guys can go long before the bell starts. And who his targets are.

And I like following along and trying to predict the moves and have been pretty damn good at it, see the original Brogdon deal and the KP pursuit where I was way out in front of things.

We will see this summer, will be very difficult to call since most things will be waiting on Giannis and potentially Jokic after that.

Would actually be fun to take a league salary list and stick it in a google doc style spreadsheet. Then just arrange it where we think the FO would value each guy at the deal he is on.

If I had time I would outside of today I’ve been kind of slammed lately otherwise I’d be posting more annoying **** in the draft thread.

Yeah, I agree.

Only thing that I think is certain is it has to be 2 big contracts that must be shed to avoid the repeater tax penalty.

I don't follow the cap space nearly what I used to but my impression is it's the second apron they are ducking, if the repeater tax is a different demarcation I'm not sure it's relevant to where they are going.

HugePatsFan is basically the best (by far) at that stuff on the board at this point and he'd mentioned the ~24.5ish number to get under the second apron so that's what I'll go with at this point. Along with a few other pretty bright posters.

People have different opinions but if I am the Celtics, I am keeping Tatum, Brown and White, everyone else could be moved at the right price. A core of Tatum, Brown and White the Celtics will always be in the mix.

To me, it’s pretty unrealistic to avoid the repeater tax entirely next year.
The goal should be to drop the tax burden down a couple rungs which could equate to 50-100 m, and put ourselves into a clear position to easily reset the tax situation (drop below the tax line for 2026-27).
Easiest thing is trade Holiday for incoming Salary of less than 20m. Bonus if the Contract lengths are less than Holidays. It may take a pick to grease the wheels depending on who is coming back.
Trading Porzingis doesn’t do a bunch as he comes off the books anyway for 2026/27. Sure helps the tax bill this coming year, but then they still need to make an additional move to reset the repeater.

Trading Hauser for an expiring that makes less than him next year helps a bit next year and provides a path to reset the repeater in 2026/27.

Will be really interesting to see what Brad does here. I expect him to blow our collective mind.

I agree 100%. That’s your core. You can stay competitive and build around those dudes for the life of their contracts. 3-4 more years.
Pritchard is super cheap so I think you keep him.
Porzingis is expiring and amazing when healthy so I think you keep him unless someone is giving you solid value back. Aka you don’t need to dump him.

Makes sense. Do you think there's any chance we restructure Jrue's contract to be more team friendly, so we can keep him here or no?

He seems like such a team-first guy..winning all of these teammate of the year and sportsmanship of the year awards, always saying how winning is all that matters to him..idk, maybe he'd go for it..he's made tons of money in his career. And his wife has made tons of money in her soccer career too..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Cannot restructure contract on non-option years. His salary is fully guaranteed and locked in for the next two seasons. Player option in 2027-28.

I really don’t know the rules/ realities around restructuring. When was the last time it was done? Is it allowed under the CBA. He is owed 3/ 103ish. With 2026/27 being the year we need to duck the tax, would something like 22/22/26/32 with some sort of incentives added in years 1, 3 and 4 be legal .i really don’t know. That would be cool though.
Assuming we make our picks in 25 and 26 and nothing else changes we will need to shed about 10 million to get under the tax line for 2026/27.

Let me start with expressing my hate of this CBA and its overly punitive penalties. But I do think it's possible that Chisolm gives it another season if the team wins it all. Anything short of that I think means change to get below the 2nd apron. If that happens, IF they can trade Holiday for expirings between the draft and July 1, there is a path to get a good 3rd guard to replace Holiday.

Trade KP
Right now if possible

Return to Boston Celtics
