Call me crazy but reading Pritchard to move up 7 slots seems like a backward move I. The short term.
I'm not big on him but if you're gonna move him you need to get something that's gonna contribute now. Not 4 years from now.
4 years from now? lol what.
Pritchard barely even played this season. He contributed basically nothing. We could have Davison or Madar fill that role. Or if Brad doesn't think either of them could do it, get someone like Patty Mills. Hell, even Kemba Walker or IT could do it.
It's not a very important role. The Nuggets just won the championship. The Payton Pritchard of their team was Reggie Jackson, who just sat on the bench the whole time.
But you know who did contribute to winning the championship for the Nuggets? Christian Braun, a wing they drafted late in the 1st round last year.
Excellent point. A younger less experienced player could definitely get more minutes than Pritchard and play a bigger role. Still think one of our guards ahead of Pritchard could get traded for a big in the next 48 hours though.
Sure, and if that happens (smart or brogdon is traded for a frontcourt player) I'm still not worried about losing Pritchard.
We'd just start white at the 1, brown at the 2 with brogdon as our guard off the bench. Or If Brogdon is moved, you start smart at the 1, brown at the 2 with white as the guard off the bench.
That would still leave us with 3 very good guards to rotate in and out. We don't need to rotate 4 of them in and out (with 3 of the 4 guards being under 6'5"). We did that this past season, but it's not an ideal rotation. We were too small, too guard heavy. Not enough size. Plus, with all 4 of those guards all fighting for minutes, it messed up the team chemistry, guys didn't know their roles. You could tell Smart wasn't as happy and wasn't as effective as he was the previous season, due to the crowded backcourt and logjam we had this season, White played better when he got more minutes (in games where Smart or Brogdon was out). Guys were out of rhythm.
Denver won the title, and the only guard they had off the bench was Bruce Brown. Hell they even started him quite a bit in the playoffs, which left them with no guards coming in off the bench in the rotation - only a couple of wings (KCP and Braun).
Plus, we would still have the rest of the offseason to add another guard if we wanted to. Whether it's adding someone like patty Mills, Gary Harris. Or just have Davison or Madar do it. It would be small role. We're talking about your 3rd guard in the rotation who is under 6'5". Teams typically do not have more than 1 or 2 guards in their rotation who are under 6'5". The Nuggets had Murray and Brown. The Heat had Lowry and Vincent. Knicks had Brunson and Quickley, with their other guys who were under 6'5" were buried deep at the end of the bench.
If our biggest problem is not having enough undersized guards, I think we'll be ok

We could always get a Strus/Kennard type of guy to backfill that spot. I'd rather get someone with more size than pritchard. Hell, even if it's someone like Covington, KJ Martin, Jae'Sean Tate, etc. We'll have enough ball handling - Tatum handles the ball like a guard..
