It's a really bad deal. Exceptionally bad.

Basically JB won't ever be the highest paid player in the sport. He'll have the largest guaranteed deal over a period of a year, very, very unlikely he's ever highest paid guy and won't be next year or the year after.

Nah. For a top 20-25 player? Not even close to be worthy. He’s still gonna be one of the top 5 highest paid player in years.

He will be at most 3rd highest next year behind LeBron and Curry (who are already guaranteed to make more next year), with any of A. Davis, Paul George, Kawhi or even Siakam passing him up.

I'd guess he'd be maybe 4th-5th highest next year at best, and prob will be the highest he ever hits on that list.

Edit: basically he prob will never be a top-5 paid player, possibly eking it out his first year and then will be behind Lebron, Curry, Tatum, Giannis etc etc. Still a huge deal and a huge commitment but it is what it is.

If nothing changes with his game does Boston have enough to win a ring ? That’s what makes or breaks a deal like this .

Sure. They've been a top 2-3 team for two years and just got a lot better adding KP, addressing their biggest issue. Plus have all of their own firsts plus an additional (and a raft of seconds lol) to make another solid move.

They are absolutely a title contender.

They were five minutes in game 4 of the NBA finals from going up 3-1 on the Warriors two years ago. There is no question they have enough to win, they very literally almost did. The question is will they?

Celtics basically have their Big 3 Tatum, Brown and Porzingis locked up for the next 3 years and that's a good thing.

I agree lol. How is that huge for the celtics again??? Haha

It holds more value if a team is trading for him.

What team in their right mind would want to pay a side kick that much other than the celtics. We are stuck with him. Hope he can dribble left next season lol.

Easier said than done. If Jaylen gets better then our options goes up, but if he regress, then we’re ****.

Their biggest issue going forward is point guard depth they will most likely need smart defender replacement some time down the road . They will need hit in the draft .

Yup we are totally stuck with him. Hope he gets better though and silence all the doubters like me.

Also, i doubt any of those guys gets paid more. Davis, kawhi and PG are in the wrong end of their prime, and siakam’s not good enough.

Well yes I can't believe we've gotten this far in and we haven't even started psycho analyzing him to determine if the added attention of being the biggest contract holder in NBA history will have an affect on him and what will it be.

We must be slacking!

JB - rise to the occasion or choke in the spotlight!?!?!

The only real positive I see is that our fan base can at least move forward with this news item.
What I am at least hoping for is that j b doesn't have to try to prove he's an all star anymore to get his big contract. He has it.

Now he needs to find a way to put winning first..
There is no prize for coming so close Do something!

One of the first guys they targeted in FA was Dalano Banton. They'll be fine this year with White/Brogdon/Pritchard.

Wouldn't surprise though if they use those picks for a younger guard at some point, prob in trade.

steefP2 wrote:There will be no incentives to this btw; you can’t put any in a supermax contract. It’s a full 35% max contract for 5 years. Which will be somewhere between 290-304 depending on the cap. Trade kicker only brings his contract up to 35% max if cap raises more than his contract. For example 35% of the cap in 26-27 will be roughly 62 mil. Jaylen might make 59 that year so the trade kicker just bridges those 3 mil.

Okay, this makes me feel a lot better about the deal.

Basically we lost on the trade kicker and won on the player option.

The one chance to move Jaylen was last summer for KD. That time came and went. Boston had no choice but to give him his money. He’s earned it. Hopefully he remains focused and motivated.

Hell yes buddy. That's how it will be. Tatum/Porzingis/Brown is such a **** scary trio I really haven't fully comprehended it yet. Tatum & Porzingis pnr is about to be something else.

The last time the Celtics were stuck with a large, untradeable contract was 29 years ago (Vin Baker's), and that was a big headache. At least Brown will suit up for all the games and not reek of alcohol. Will he ever be able to live up to his contract though? Major LOL.

Health is far more important than him changing his game if you are talking about winning a Championship.
