Yes, but there's less margin for health error than when Hayward was here.
We would have gone to the Finals this season if Kemba's knee had been fine, even in light of Hayward's injury, but it would have been close. Next season we will be less able to afford to lose one of our top players.

Beal to me is a point-blank no-brainer. His age, connection with Tatum, and ability to fit his game around basically any type of player makes him the IDEAL guy to go after.
I just have no idea if WAS will ever give him up unless he forces his way out. I think they legitimately hope Wall comes back and is 90-95% of his old self and all of as sudden you've probably got a playoff team in the East between those two and a bit of development from their frontcourt.

IMO Nesmith should have been picked much higher. Dude shot over 50 percent from 3. He has a NBA body as well. Not sure you could ask much more if your Ainge. He probably would have picked him even if he had the 8th pick.
33% as a freshman though. I think he’s somewhere inberween. A lot of time off and no summer league makes me wonder how long it will take to get acclimated.

Of course he is. That’s the whole point trade in an ok-good player for an elite one. Beals defense sucked last year but on a good team he’ll be engaged and is capable. Either way no brainer

Their MLE wouldn’t have been enough to get Thompson, this team would be looking at Noel/Boucher type talent. Not sure why this gets left out. I don’t really see why they would have to pony up an asset either if it meant CHA needing to stretch Batum or not.
Is the Thompson deal signed or could we in principle change it to a S&T w/ Cleveland's help?
I know we'd be hard capped either way, but preserving the MLE would still add to our flexibility a bit (e.g. by taking Teague into it and preserving the Biannual Exception, or by being able to later add a late-season cut vet player for more than the vet minimum, or simply by adding somebody else now we otherwise wouldn't have).
Ooh, cool idea. Can even fold the Hayward trade into it. But only if Hornets are willing to part with Rozier.
Something like...
BOS gets Thompson at $9M+, $18.5M TPE
CHA gets Hayward, Exum
CLE gets Rozier
Cs preserve MLE or sign someone with it. Not sure if anyone's still available who's worth that.

Maybe we shouldn't get our hopes up about it. Charlotte is under no obligation to do it, and not to mention, it's gonna. take a third team to pull it off anyway.

Nah, it's all about Kemba's knee. 90% of Hayward's production can be easily replaced off the street. Shaq Harrison, Hollis-Jefferson, CJ Miles and MKG are still out there. And that's just the wings.

That is the thing at this point if you had kept or gotten a return on Hayward then you were out on the Not Tax Payer MLE. To me obviously the TPE could be useful down the road. But from a financial perspective the player I would have interest in is Malik Monk and some guys that we can just cut and then take TPE for the remainder. Monk may be a total bust but he is an expiring $5mil with some upside. While it may cost Boston a significant transaction this season staying out of the lux tax this year is a massive gain for this franchise moving forward. They would be able to go over for two consecutive years before repeater kicks in.

I could live with Kemba Walker to the Bulls for Otto Porter (expiring) and another player. Maybe Satoransky. It might depend on how much you believe in Tremont Waters as a viable NBA point guard, although Satoransky wouldn't be bad as Smart's backup.

This is the rub right now this transaction as proposed by CHA is awful TPE aside. It is going to be complicated for them to create that 8 mil of cap space without stretching and waiving Batum but that really is a burden on their cap moving forward and their roster is super thin.
If I was CHA my focus would be on finding another way to get this deal done if that involves Boston great but not a focus.

Re: Trade Thread #8: All Gordon things come to an End
If I'm Ainge the number one priority over the next year or two is finding a way to pair Beal and Tatum.
Wall is already asking to be traded and Beal has a player option for 2022-23. That means that Beal can become an unrestricted FA at the end of next season and Washington risks losing him for nothing. If Washington has another predictably **** season the bidding will be intense, but Ainge has got to figure out how to do whatever it takes to get him (i.e. Jaylen, Smart, other young guys who hopefully develop, picks, etc).
Signing Beal to a long-term deal is great not only because he's awesome, but also because it majorly increases the chances of keeping Tatum since they are St. Louis friends from back in the day. I know this is premature, but the planning should start now on how to put together the best package possible for Beal in a year.

We REALLY need another wing. Our depth as of this moment, is WORSE than last year, which I thought was not possible. Danny may have lost the big picture, while trying to squeeze the Pacers for blood.

I agree... They have NO players we would actually want. And who is gonna want to help Danny out now?
