The movie was fun and literally had no overt messaging. There is no need to sully this movie with the tired Fox/CNN political narrative we are all sick of. Yes, some writers have an innate political bent whether it be conservative like Yellowstone and a mature viewer can enjoy it anyway. It was a fun reboot of a classic B movie set in another time and place with a faint link to one of the best characters in the original. Nothing amazing but worth the watch if you liked the original.

I’ve already spelled out the overt messaging. You’re just either receptive to it or are pretending to not notice it which is fine and your prerogative. I find it exhausting and it ruined what could have been a great movie. Instead of “dumb fun” which I’m positive Trachtenberg wasn’t shooting for, it could have been epic

You make this movie sound like Don’t Look Up…..it’s not at all. Cliches …. Sure……political agenda…..doubtful. You don’t have to look at every thing in life like Tucker Carlson. A dumb sci-fi action movie is more fun without the paranoia coloring every scene.

nah, that's how you're taking it because pointing out how ridiculous the politics of it are, that you clearly agree with, rustles your Jimmies. This whole movie was essentially a longer version of that awful montage in 'Captain Marvel' about everyone putting her down, being dismissive, doubting her and her rising above it. Essentially "you go girl" for two hours. I'm all for girl power. I've got daughters and want them to have role models. Just not the liberal Mary Sue versions Disney is pushing. If you can't see the politics in 'Prey' then like I said, you're blind to it because you get your views from Joy Reid and Chris Hayes and this is more of the same.

a couple of laughable observations btw. 'Yellowstone' is not conservative lol. Just because it's set on a ranch doesn't make it conservative. In fact, it's quite woke if we're being honest. You have the evil white men stealing the Native American lands (who themselves stole from others btw). You've got black cowboys. You've got the annoying wife who does nothing but bash white people. How about that awful scene with the dismissive student she had to "educate" on his misogyny? You have Beth beating up Jaime and being smarter and more ruthless than everyone else. Over the top misogyny galore! Hell, he wrote that Antifa character, Summer, based on the actress' real life arrest protesting the Brett Kavanaugh nomination and the whole theme of climate change and veganism is strewn throughout that season. All the actors and creators are as liberal as they come. It's just about as woke a show as there is on TV ffs. Costner is so unhinged he's stanning for Liz Cheney ffs because she's anti-Trump. You can't make this up. Trump broke you people. So mature for liberals to ignore their politics and embrace such conservatism ha ha too funny. And you equating Fox News with CNN is the most laughable thing you've typed. CNN along with the other 90% of msm don't even pretend to be anything but arms of the Democrat party.

For those at all interested, Prey is a pretty good reboot of a mediocre franchise and pretty well done. If you can’t suspend reasonable disbelief about what a hero must do to win and survive - it’s just as stupid as all similar movies.

This thread is fertile ground for trolling as much as any other. I'm not sure I understand the complaints.

I watched "Old Henry" and "The Many Saints of Newark" over the weekend, both came out relatively recently but I missed them when they first came out.

Old Henry I quite enjoyed, a pretty good western that was well acted and well photographed too. I'll avoid any spoilers, but I thought the reveal was a nice little twist on an established story line. Tim Blake Nelson is a unique looking fella too, particularly in this movie.

I think I only watched the first season or two of The Sopranos, and that was probably when it first came out. So it has been a long time. But I thought this movie was pretty weak to be honest. Seemed to establish a few interesting potential story lines and then did nothing with them. I almost turned it off half way through because I was bored.

I just reached the "ronny/lilly" episode of Barry (in season 2), and I can't recall the last time I've had had such fun watching an episode. I couldn't stop laughing at the comedy of errors on display throughout the episode, the only bummer was it only lasted 30 minutes. I was so engrossed that I was surprised when the credits started rolling. The fact that Bill Hader himself directed this episode only proves just how talented he really is.

And NoHo Hank is my favorite character on the show. Man, what a hilarious character.

Hi, I’m not clever but here’s my attempt!

How will you know if you like a movie if you don’t watch it? Great post otherwise though!!!

Only watched the first episode but so far ‘The Sandman’ is looking very promising.

Season 4 of ‘Westworld’ is a welcome return to form for those who may have given up on it after the last dismal season

I was excited when I saw Uncharted is on Netflix now. The recent action/adventure movie based on the video game. But I thought it was pretty bad. I wasn't expecting anything more than a moderate amount of entertainment and still came away disappointed. It's under two hours but still felt like it was an hour too long lol. The screenplay and dialogue were terrible. And I know Mark Wahlberg has never been Sidney Poitier or anything but damn he was so bad in this movie. Legit seemed like he had never seen the script before and was reading lines out loud for the first time.

I like to think I can get a general sense by previews or other opinions. But that is just me. And I wasn't referring to your comment, but your observations about "Yellowstone" and being "conservative". Apologies if I I was not clear enough. Wasn't my intent.

Before it came out I hated the casting and that Wahlberg didn’t have a mustache since it’s Sully’s defining feature. After seeing it I still hate the casting but was pleasantly surprised by their chemistry. Mark is a seriously underrated actor though this wasn’t one of his better performances. I have no idea where the narrative that he’s bad came from. Is it because of that awful movie ‘The Happening’? Or they dislike him due to his violent past? The cringe rapping?

He’s pretty great in:

Basketball Diaries
Fear
The Departed
Boogie Nights
The Other Guys
Ted
Pain & Gain

Everything from the casting to the script and the dialog was just dreadful. And I knew it would be before it came out. Wahlberg was just out of his depth for this character.

How many video game have been successfully turned into a movie or tv show? Doesn't seem like many, the majority always seem to get slammed by the movie critics and the fans of the games.

Sure he has. This was a bad casting. He was out of his depth for this role. Nothing about his performance read "Sully". I don't give a **** about his more complex characters. He blew this one and that's the point.

Very few. I thought the first Resident Evil was alright even though it didn't have Clare Redfield. But you're right. It's hard to pull off. There are just so many different things you can do with a story told through a game that you can't do with a movie in a condensed amount of time. I do have hope for The Last of Us. For me, that's the best video game I've ever played. And I love Pedro Pascal.

Been sitting here watching the 3rd season of For All Mankind. This show is wild as hell. As a history guy, the revising of our history is messin me up in the best possible way. The script and the cast is outstanding.
