Can some of our cap experts explain to me how Miami keeps being able to extend these players they trade for without having space or how they even have the flexibility to begin with

Using bird rights, you can resign players to deals for amounts less than theyre making if theyre in the last year of a contract

If we were gonna beat them, we're not suddenly gonna get stopped by these additions and in reverse, if the Sixers beat us it won't be because of Burke/Robinson.

It's always going to come down to can we play effective defense on Embiid and do we hit our shots. Neither of these guys are strong enough defenders or shooter to fundamentally affect that outcome.

Miami i feel like has been playing over their head all season. They're a good team no doubt but i don't think they're as strong as their record nor do i think their strong play will 100% convert to the playoffs. We also match up well against them. If they get Iggy and Gallo, that changes slightly but again, I'd still favor us in that match up. Might be homer-ish but defensively we matchup great.
You can put Brown on Butler (not perfect but as good as you're gonna get), Hayward on Gallo (exactly the kind of player Hayward is well suited to defend imo) and then you can have Tatum on Iggy who's not some great shooting threat so Tatum can roam and play his great team and help D. Bam is obviously better then Theis but shouldn't kill him.

Getting Iggy helps them mostly because they actually have 2 wing defenders now so both Tatum and Brown can be covered but Gordon can still have a field day on Gallo. It makes them better yes, but doesn't fundamentally change the matchup imo.

Still no clue how we're gonna get past the Bucks but even with these moves, I don't fear Miami. Sixers will be tough but that was true yesterday as well.

Like others have pointed out, whatever moves we make would mostly help us in the regular season. With our injury luck, having additional playable depth could be the difference between getting the 2nd seed and the 4th seed. In the playoffs, we need all top hands on deck. We can't overwork our main guys even after the all-star break. Having reliable bench scorers could help with RS game blowouts w/c in turn could help in resting our starters and/or avoiding injuries (refer to what the Bucks are doing this season). Every bit of that rest counts once you enter the playoffs.

Still not intimidated by the Bucks. If they played all of their RS games against us and their record + net rating is the same, then I wouldn't want to face them in the playoffs. We match up well with them.

It does seem that Ainge at least agrees about having too much youth on the roster. If these rumors are true, we're at least trying to bolster our bench.

I'm a fan of giving the team the best chance to compete (regardless of whether the entire world thinks Bucks are the hands-down favorites) if it doesn't really cost us all that much.

Yea, they'll have an agreement in place and then use the bird rights.
Good assessment:

Oh I agree with all of this. I think my point was mainly that the moves that other teams have made don't scare me. I also want a move to help us get through the regular season. Im just not suddenly more scared of the Sixers or the Heat cause of these recent additions.

Riley is doing amazing job, based on what he had/has and what he will get...first Butler in summer, now at f he manages to get galo, unreal job.

It will not cost more than one first and fillers probably.

I always thought Gallo would be good here, but lets not forget he's made of glass and they are about to give up the last of their assets and give him a long term contract. There is risk in the moves, but it could work out.

All I really care about, apart from guaranteeing full health for our guys post-ASB until July, is what will we name Trade Thread Part 4?? Do we finally name it after Andy? Has 100proof done enough to steal that honor from him?

Yep, however personally unappealing he may seem to us, he is shrewd and effective in the league. If they really pull it together he's in line for executive of the year.

Boston in: Luke Kennard & Christian Wood
Detroit in: Romeo Langford, Rob Williams III, Memphis 1st, Milwaukee 1st

Who says no? We get immediate help while staying young & Detroit gets the bigger projects, fitting each team's timeline a little better. Obviously the 1sts to sweeten the deal.

Danny probably offered Poirier for Wood and 4 first round picks

I am not sure that is the deal imo.

Poirier, Edwards, Memphis pick, Bucks pick
for
Kennard and Wood

I just don't think Detroit bites on that. We'd be acquiring two really solid young players with some upside. The Memphis pick isn't what it used to be & Poirier/Edwards are non-factors.

Knowing Danny, he probably offered Javonte and our own 2nd round pick for Wood.
