Report: no plans for Celtics to use $17.1 million TPE

I won’t buy it until it expires. If they’re willing to pay there are some nice bench pieces in the 8-12 million range..

You need 2 players backing up Rob and Al bc they play together at different positions with different roles. Gallos role with be much like Horfords. Perimeter shooter, passer, floor spacer. We need the backup for Rob, his minutes and his role of rim protector, off ball shot blocker, lob runner. A player that's an upgrade to Theis, that can play variable minutes in the playoffs.

They need another big on paper, but Tatum and Gallo will get enough minutes at the 4, and Grant sometimes as a 5, that Rob/Al/Luke will be enough.

no need to put it in bold like it's some definite thing.

1) The sub headline says "Boston could stand pat with one of their biggest offseason tools going unused" keyword in that sentence is "could". They could stand pat and not use the TPE. Could, not will. They could stand pat, but they also could use the TPE. There's nothing new in this article.

2) the article contains only speculation and heresy. There's no quotes from Brad or anyone employed by the celtics organization

3) the article goes on to ask whether ownership will give the green light to pay into the tax as much as the warriors, nets and clippers. Um, if those other teams are paying this much into the tax, why not us? If 1 of those 3 teams wins the title and we don't, then what? we just got beat in the finals by the warriors, who had the highest payroll in the league, while we had the 19th highest payroll

4) the article also explains how if we do decide to use the TPE, there's plenty of options available for good players and how Brad has shown a willingness to trade away draft picks...hmm, it sounds like there's a chance!
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

We need another big. Al is 36 and Rob is injury prone. They need to be fresh by the postseason.

Right now the Celts are 9 deep.

No need for unnecessary spending IMO.

Just add another serviceable big using the vet's minimum.

Adding too much talent might cause a playing time problem.

That's why I think the 17m TPE will go unused.

How do people feel about Dwight Howard? He would be much better than Kornet but he is universally hated in the NBA for some reason.

Only fair to give Kornet a chance.

Why else give him a new 2-year contract.

I think we're going to be very happy when we see what JD Davison and Trevion Williams can do in summer league. JD might take a while -- Maine bound.

Williams OTOH doesn't look like much of an NBA athlete, but lets see if he can work on his body with the Celtics staff and get in better shape. His passing skills are extraordinary.

Lot of those TPE names are expiring, so we’d keep flexibility.. Kuzma, Richardson, Oubre, Powell, Crowder, Favors, Green, Plumlee, Gay..

I can really see the Cs playing Grant at the 5 and Gallo at the 4 when the 2nd unit is in the game.

He loved it here in boston. the guys loved him. Good defender, good shooter. Can create a little bit off the dribble, most notably with that quick burst driving left and then laying it in off wrong foot move.

Then for that 3rd string big man spot grab 1 of these guys with a minimum contract:

Thomas Bryant
Duop Reath
Jo Lual-Acuil
Chinanu Okuaku
Edy Tavares

That would be nice but where is he going to play?

All the minutes at PG and SG are taken. Brown's minutes will be more divided this season between SG and SF because Smart, White and Brogdon are all deserving of 30 minutes a game. I get it's a 82 game season, but I guy like J-Rich isn't coming here to just sit and wait every 4 or 5 games for a player to be out, so he can get minutes.

we have the roster spots. we have the TPE. we need depth to win a title.

guys will get hurt. it's a long season - you need a deep team.

I'll let Udoka figure out the rotation and minutes. That's his job.

You'd rather have Brodric Thomas on this team or Josh Richardson? That's what I thought.

Again, there is no minutes for Richardson on this team. Thomas will get zero minutes on this team, about 10 less than Richardson.

I have watched enough of Kornet when Brad was coaching to know he is not good enough to allow Rob and Horford to rest.

If we had Brogdon & Gallo we beat the Warriors in 6, maybe 5. The next move or two HAS to be getting bigs to back up Rob & Horford. Al needs his minutes reduced to the 23-25 minute range during the season to be fresh for the playoffs. Kornet isn't going to cut it with Rob being injury prone. Gotta go get Bryant or another vet min big that isn't Dwight Howard, maybe Giles to appease Tatum & see if he can play.

Maybe use the TPE or part of it on a big -- does Orlando want to get out of the money they gave Isaac or Carter Jr? There just aren't a ton of options & I doubt Orlando wants to move either of them.

Or just pray we catch lightning in a bottle with Trevion Williams or Kabengele...

Those who want a big, would you trade Smart for Ayton?

Yes, but Cs already have Gallo.

Playing time will be an issue.
