Gotta say surprised at amount of people who want to trade up. I think Celtics aremore.likely to punt here. They have Schierman and Walsh and maybe even davidson too. They aren't gonna really have time for a rookie. I would think they trade out of first round for w future first or two seconds. Then Target a young foreigner with second rounder.

This is what I think also
I think we use 28 only if we cut Walsh and not sign JD
I think JD is our FRP, a 22 years old PG, G-League MVP, played in our system for 3 years and know the drill. If he entered the draft he would be a FRP. We can have him for cheap
We can also sign Peterson and let Miles Norris get some playing time

Danny Wolf intrigues me a lot, but doubt he'll be around our range.

strong disagree. We need a young quality Big-man at minimum. There are quite a few good prospects. we can't keep punting.

Coming back around on Carter Bryant. Would have to be a trade but he's one of the guys I like in that 10-20 range.

Provided they all stay. I think Davison and Walsh will be a surprise to still be with the Celtics on opening night. I think Davison's non-guaranteed contract is a place holder for just in case scenarios. I'm expecting Walsh to be a filler in some trade somewhere, the same for Tillman.

Wolves POBO Tim Connelly on this draft: " We don’t see a lot of separation between 17 and 31."

It would have been better if he said "17 and 32"

Yeah true, but for context he only used those numbers because the Wolves pick at 17 and 31. Matt Babcock did say in the interview below that he thinks the dropoff comes right around there. ↓

Here's a great summary of the Celtics draft situation from Matt Babcock, being interviewed by Bobby Krivitsky.

Whats a good comp for Chaz Lanier? Is he just Antonio Reeves with more body weight? Is he like Buddy Hield lite?

while I was typing this I just discovered the tankathon PLayer Comparison tool which I don't think I've ever used before and ran the comparison
https://www.tankathon.com/players/compare?players=chaz-lanier--antonio-reeves--buddy-hield

but anyway, Buddy Hield seems like the comp for Chaz Lanier, but Lanier less productive, lesser percentages and not a lottery pick, I guess

Makes sense the way the Celtics play.

I think the Malik Beasley comparison is a good one.

Hard to compare to Buddy because I didn't really watch Buddy in college and he was a prospect such a long time ago. Considering they were both old prospects, considering the way Buddy plays in the NBA and their size, etc. I'd say that Buddy Hield would be a ceiling outcome for Lanier. You get a guy like that in the 2nd round and it's a steal. But that's his ceiling..not great odds for him to reach that.

Compared to Reeves, Reeves was quicker - he was really quick last season at Kentucky..along with his lights out shooting. Lanier isn't as quick but he's build stronger. I'd say overall in terms of how good they are as prospects, I'd say they are about in the same ballpark.

Other names to throw out there in terms of really old prospects who could really shoot but not do much else, similar size to Lanier - would be Ochai Agbaji and Chris Duarte. Agbaji was more athletic and much better defender though than Lanier. Duarte was a little better with the ball in his hands to create shots, a little quicker too. So I'd say Duarte overall was a slightly better prospect, Agbaji a much better prospect as well.

Lanier is a guy you take a swing on somewhere in the 2nd round..wouldn't hate it if we take that swing..especially with how much we like shooters.

Also I really like the confidence he shows in this interview:

"I'm trying to prove that I'm the best SG in the draft. I believe that wholeheartedly"

Also kind of cool, he names Booker and Hield as the guys he tris to study/emulate. Wonder if he came up with that answer or if he's got someone who is coaching him on his answers haha.

Bryn Forbes seems like a good comp.

Forbes was a better shooter, Lanier looks slightly better elsewhere.

Drake Powell reminds me of Nesmith a little. They have nearly identical measurements. He’s probably not as good a shooter as Nesmith was in college, but there are definite similarities in their game.

Walsh's shooting, esp corner 3pt %, was not good. I think coaches feel like no matter his defense, Jordan needs to be able to hit from the corner to play in this system. I don't know if they'll have any patience to stick with him going forward. And of course, no proof Jordan Walsh is even an NBA player...

JDD's situation is a little different, imo. Celts have spent 3 yrs developing him and he just won Gleague MVP. If Celts waive him, another team is gonna pick him up and Celts do not want to invest 3 yrs hardwork just for another team to profit of their work. But, same as Walsh, what the coaches want: defense, low turnovers, convert open 3's is not a match when JD's game is: pace, setting guys up, running PnR etc ... and JDD could be a 4A player anyway... so who knows

if we move on from (waive or trade) Walsh and JDD, then 4 yrs of drafts and Celts left with only Baylor Scheierman and Celts youngest returning player is 25 yrs on opening night...

Return to Boston Celtics
