The right side of the full picture got cut off and I can't figure out how to fix it. KG is on that side and he looks crazy.

Uh Pierce better not let Stu Jackson see that picture, or he is gonna be in more trouble.

Re: Celtics Preseason Thread
Not unhappy with where this team is at right now, especially if they are able to flip Bass/Lee/Melo for Josh Smith at the deadline, but can't help feeling that 80% of the optimism around this team is due to Derrick Rose's injury.
We match up great on Miami, but the Bulls would have drilled us hard. With Rose's injury, just sorta feel like we get to pretend our window has been extended by two years. We have reloaded to an extent, but not with elite guys.
Anyhow, not a negative post. Just preferring to be pragmatic and recognize that this team should be perfectly willing to pull a big move on a moment's notice.

I don['t disagree with you. While I have respect for Miami (rephrase, I respect that they are a bunch of talented individuals but I wouldn't call them a team), I too think many people downplay the extent of impact that Derrick Rose's injury had.
First. lemme preface this by saying that I hate when people try the tired argument of heavy-possession load automatically makes the player a star. That's ****.
Call me a hypocrite if you want but Derrick Rose is the real deal in that regard because his teammates all slot in behind him. The majority remain efficient/highly efficient because they are not forced into doing too much.
When ~30% of a team's possessions result in league average, at minimum, it is a helluva lot easier to impact the remaining piece of the pie.
All that being said, I think that Rondo is better than a healthy Rose. I think that Rondo, when assertive, is the 2nd best player in the league behind Kevin Durant. When he is not assertive, I still think he is a top-15 player but, by being as unselfish as he is, he doesn't impact the game as much as he could. It is not one or two shots more per game. It is a feel that Rondo has to have. He needs to force the issue at times and draw the majority of defensive attention to himself. That is how he will catapult into a consistent top-5 category of player, imo.

Yeah thats pretty much the crux of most discussion surrounding Rose. It should be noted that Chicago played a lot of games without Rose and was still awesome. They would have been better with Rose but personally I don't think the gap is as big as some think. Its seems like the team just imploded against Philly last year and still should have won without Rose. The interesting thing is Chicago quietly dismantled there depth this year, and I think they are going to be in for a shock how much they relied on their depth. Vegas still has them winning 45+games this year and I would for sure take the under on that.
Also LeBron is better than Durant.

Re: Celtics Preseason Thread
I maintain that Chicago has always been VASTLY overrated, healthy Rose or not. We all saw in the ECF two years ago how much they rely on Rose offensively. Sure, they may have given us a hard time during the regular season, but I honestly think the Celtics would beaten them in no more than six games this past year had they met with Rose on the floor.
Some teams just aren't built for the playoffs. The Bulls were/are one of those teams.

I met Jared Sullinger at the burlington mall today. He looks in very good shape and he is excited about being a Celtic.

I ran into Stiemsma there last season. Must be a popular place for C's players to go.

I saw nothing in any of those games that made me think we had a shot at them. Just start with the rebounding and our inability to check Rose. Playoffs are rock, paper, scissors.
In terms of matchups, Boston = rock, Bulls = paper, Miami = scissors.

Re: Celtics Preseason Thread
I've been finding time to watch the Celtics in pre season, while its only pre season action, I'm loving how Sullinger and Green have been playing. If we can get Green to live up to his potential that pushes us up into one of the top spots in the league.
