Re: #3 pick
One other option: we trade #3 and Smart plus #16 for the #1 pick. Colangelo wants to compete now and the 76ers need backcourt help. They could take Dunn/Murray/Hield to go with Smart and whoever they like at #16.
Not super likely but you never know.

No way they would do that.

Re: #3 pick
Unless the Lakers do something stupid like passing on Ingram...
Best case scenario:
Trade #3 + #16 + Avery + Jerebko for Butler.
Sign Whiteside and Horford.
Resign Turner and opt out Amir
IT--Butler-Crowder-Horford-Whiteside
Rozier-Smart-Turner-Mickey-Olynyk
Hunter-Young + 3 draftees.
Plan B
Trade #3 + #16 + Amir + Olynyk and Bradley for DMC
Sign Gasol and Ryan Anderson
Resign Turner
IT--Smart-Crowder-Gasol-DMC
Rozier-Turner-Jerebko-Anderson-Mickey
Hunter, Young + 3 draftees.
Plan C
Draft Buddy

Re: #3 pick
You have to get Bender in for a good workout and see if he separates himself from the next 4 (Dunn, Hield, Murray, Brown)
Butler trade seems a little too likely.. and im not sure how much he pushes the needle without a significant front court boost
Explore the trade market, but I'd be ok with swinging for the fences and taking Bender

Will someone enlighten me on what's so special about Bender? I don't follow Euro ball but his stats are underwhelming to say the least and the highlights I see are always against inferior competition. What am I missing?
Everyone Knows Ainge's draft board looks very different than league/pundit consensus. I wonder if Bender is even in his top 10.

Re: #3 pick
Ideal Summer
Smart, 3, 16, 23 for Butler. Sign Whiteside, pick up Amir and Jerebko's options, keep the remaining Brooklyn picks. Let everybody else walk.
IT / Rozier
AB / Hunter
Butler / Jerebko / Young
Crowder / KO / Mickey
Whiteside / AMir
next summer you have IT, AB, Butler, Crowder, whiteside under contract and room for a max FA and the Nets pick in the draft. Still don't have a true super star but that would be a great summer.

You know what? I'm not that mad anymore. We have the luxury of choosing the best out of Bender, Dunn, Murray, and Hield. Draft workouts will say a lot and I'm betting one of those 4 is going to separate themselves from the rest. Harden, Westbrook, Curry, Lillard all weren't 1 or 2. I'm confident we can find a gem should we not trade.

The only argument against drafting Bender if they keep the pick is to draft a guy with more immediate impact to worsen the nets 2017 pick.

I haven't seen him play except in clips but the dude's been playing against grown men since he was like 14. He's not even 18 and a half. Think about what he'd be doing against HS players. He's definitely not NBA ready. But I think everybody sees the potential. He's gone stretches shooting the ball well from 3, and he's apparently been tough nosed inside.

Boston has a well-known interest in Dragan Bender, for what it is worth.

The argument against Bender is he sucks. Unless your impressed with his 4 points and 2 rebound averages in the Euroleague. Bender could be good but it won't be for another 3 years

Don't ever complain that the Celtics drafted KO over Giannis then.

Re: #3 pick
1.) Draft Bender
2.) Sign Whiteside
3.) Sell ET on taking IT/AB/Jae money.
4.) Retain Amir/JJ, let Sully walk.
5.) Keep Rozier for now.
6.) Use some combination of 16/23/31/35, Olynyk, Hunter, Mickey, Young, to either
- move up and snag another top-10 pick, or
- bring in another useful player.
IT / Turner / Rozier
AB / [pick or vet]
Jae / Smart
Bender / Amir / JJ
Whiteside
Take that to next year and let Brad go to work again, while we keep an eye on Brooklyn.

Re: #3 pick
Bender seems like the kind of guy Stevens would want shooting, passing, defensive versatility.

Everyone Knows Ainge's draft board look very different than league/pundit consensus. I wonder if Bender is even in his top 10.
Stats for Young Euros are usually worthless because even the best ones rarely get any playing time at that age, and they're playing against grown men who are usually a mix of good Euro players and former D-1 college guys who didn't make the league in a pro setting.
Bender's appeal is that he's a legit 7'1", he's considered as already being a pretty good defender, with potential to possibly defend 3 positions at least decently in the NBA (still needs some strength, but scouts talk up his toughness down low against stronger grown men.) He's not a leaper, but he has good standing reach, and good lateral quickness that should translate to a good defender.
On offense he's shown nice skill, particularly as a passer and an improving jumpshot with likely 3pt range. Basically he projects as just what you want in a modern 4/5, he's one of the youngest players in the draft, and he's performed very well at the international comps (U-17 etc.)
His weaknesses are the pretty standard ones of young big men, he needs to add strength, and get more consistent with his jumper.

Trade it. Not saying they are bad but I haven't been impressed by any players in this draft.

Guys with the most upside seem like Bender and Murray, I would go with Murray. Murray isn't getting enough hype because he's not a super athlete, he can find his own shot, score with both hands, and has a little experience playing with NBA players already.

Good Bender article from a few months ago. Very favorable about his motor, work ethic, etc.
