Found myself watching other teams more than raptors games and last year really enjoyed watching boston games. Then the changes in the offseason and the current state od raptors future and fambase just fed me completely up.

I only started watching them once mj retired cause vince excited me. Its been too luch a chore to even be a fan over the past 7 or 10 years

Horrendous reason to switch allegiances to a team. Nothing egregious there. You switched because you got bored. No respect for that at all.

It's all relative, man. I'm a Patriots/Celtics/Sox/Bruins fan and I've been spoiled all my life with an intelligent fan base and winning teams, but I'm mainly talking about the former.

Have you actually read the Raptors forum? It's unbearable and their fans are like that in real life as well. We can't even begin to put ourselves in this guys' position. I'm not going to judge him personally.

It's important to have a good culture from the owner to the fans, otherwise you see **** like this happen.

Percentage wise, the Raptors forum has no more idiotic, over the top fans than the Celtics forum does. They just have more fans than any other forum here. We have crap here that is equally as dumb. There is just less of it to be seen because there are less people. Percentage wise, it is the same.

And it still isn't a good reason to switch the team you root for. Just stay away from other moronic fans. I've lived it here in Orlando. Most got fed up and turned rooting for the team into some sort of odd joke. The real fans here just stayed away from the idiots and did their stuff separately. They didn't bail on the team. And they had a lot more reason than the Raptors fans do to dump the team.

And right on cue, the bit about the Celtics fanbase being conservative about fandom! Its watching adult men play a game, not war.

Of course it isn't a war. To even make it a comparison like that is stupid. But to switch the team you like just because you are bored with them is stupid. And you'll feel the same way when he jumps off the Celtics bandwagon eventually too. No respect for something like that. Just say you are a general NBA fan at that point. At least you can respect that. But switching teams is pathetic.

I switched from Chicago to Toronto back once MJ retired too.

I know fans that have switched from Seatle to a different team, and fromn the Grizzlies to another team.

I am a fan of the sport though, and am a fan of well run organizations and fan of teams that play a beautiful game. Always liked SAS, always liked Boston. I dont think that makes me a bad fan by any stretch. Just one who can appreciate what I like.

I like hamburgers, if my favorite burger joint stopped surving them, I wouldnt continue to go there...I would follow the burgers...

But being served crappy burgers, for years, and having other restaurant patrons throw fries at me for stating that the burgers need improvement is too much.

I think Im getting hungry......

more than bordeom, It complete disdain for many moves as well.

Signings, trades, etc on top of playstyles added to the fanbase is just too much.

Found myself defending Boston on those boards more than anything else....so then I just realized that I liked the celts more....

Good luck with that. I have no respect for changing your allegiance because of the reasons you listed. But good luck.

Mate, its more than just the fans, alot more.

That was just the straw, for me.

ownership is cheap and is more interested in turning a profit than anything else, tv crews are horrible, on floor product is boring, no youth to be excited about, team is capped out, team has peaked, and are looking down the barrell of another long term rebuild. 15 years of watching the brutality has sent me looking elsewhere continually for better basketball to take away the sting of it. My closest friends are celts fans, and found myself celbrating their successes more and more.

It was a natural change, not a forced one.

Sometimes people fall out of love.....

The fans who did that generally did so because their team ceased to exist. That is a perfectly acceptable reason to switch teams. Those who switch from the Clippers because the owner was a vile scumbag had a perfect acceptable reason too.

The Blazers fans who gave up when the team was in the Jail Blazers era, they had a reason too.

But you are down on the team because they play a boring style. Don't you think some Celtics fans got down on the team in the dark years? Sure they did. It was really ugly for a long time. But no one bailed and said "You know what? I'm just gonna be a Spurs fan because they are good and play a fun style."

If you came and said "I'm a Raptors fan, but I'm rooting for the Celtics because I like their guys and their style and I'm tired of the Raps right now." that would have been fine. But to say you are a fan of the Celtics now? Not gonna fly with me. You can root for them, but you'll never really be a fan. Being a fan means sticking through the down times and then sharing in the joy during the good ones.

You can consider it a bad reason and still have respect for the guy.

Regarding the bold: I used to make that argument on here, but it's not true. 99% of people over there are **** idiots regarding the sport. Every Raptors fan I have ever met is a god damn moron when it comes to basketball, and some of these people are my friends.

In a league where people follow Rondo from team to team, this really isn't a big deal.

So OP, what are your in depth thoughts about every player on the current celtic roster, 2 paragraphs per player minimum please.

You can disagree with his motives, but let the man interact with sports however he pleases. There's a couple folks on this board I sometimes would like to tee off on for how they approach the team, but I don't, because that's not my business.

Personally, I'm a hard-hardcore team-not-player fan. Like, far on one end of the spectrum. I've got the guys I like more than others, but, I'll sell anyone and everyone out and not bat an eyelash, if it's for the good of the team. Including Pierce. Including Brady. Including Papi. I have no limits. And, I could debate people on that, when they get into arguments about loyalty and IT vs Kyrie and "Celtic legend" status and all that, but, I don't. Folks have a right to be player fans - to have a different relationship to sports than I do.

Maybe for this guy, sports is more of a social experience than it is for you. So, the kinds of interactions he has with the fanbase matters more, or matters differently. I don't know.

And, maybe he's a deep Raptor sleeper agent. :dontknow:

But I'm not going to assume bad faith, and I'm not going to tell him how to be a fan.

Welcome aboard, Moose.

We will consider your application...

Seriously though I say we initiate him somehow. I have no idea how you do that on the internet. If he passes he’s in. If not, back to the dinosaurs.

Edit: just had an idea. It’s one thing for you to change your allegiance here. Quite another on the board you came from. Go there, start a thread, defend the green, bash Toronto in a way that would make CHL proud, and you’re in! In all serious, I expect that either rooting for the Celtics and all lore this team has will either make you a lifer and you’ll never have to do this again or you’ll never find a team and continue to hop. Maybe someday you’ll remember when you gave your life up to the Basketball Jesus and his green clad friends. Maybe someday you won’t.

Sounds like something I'd never even consider but everyone has their own way of thinking about 'being a fan' so welcome aboard man! I'm pretty sure you'll never feel the urge to switch anymore.

Ha! I can respect anybody switching allegiance to the Cs, but not the other way around. One of the benefits of age is you find out that you don't really have to be coherent.

Here's the bare minimum you must accept and proclaim to be considered a true Celtics fan:

1) Danny Ainge is our God;
2) Jaylen Brown is the next MJ;
3) Tatum is the next LeBron;
4) Brad Stevens is the best coach in the league;
5) Tommy Heinsohn is the greatest Celtic alive;

Also:
6) **** LeBron;
7) **** Ray Allen;
8) **** LA.

Bonus points for becoming a Patriots / Red Sox fan.

I'm pretty sure dude really doesn't give a **** about some random internet Joe respecting him or not. Lol

I would switch too if I was a Toronto fan. Good on you for escaping that dumpster fire. Welcome to a real NBA team. That championship is loading..shouldn't be too long now.

I'm going to have to throw my hat in the Smitty pool then.

But I also am in the pool of team over player or "fun" style of players kind of fan.

I'd trade Brady today if I was convinced it was the best for the Patriots.
