When Tatum is aggressive he’s the better player. Much more skilled and polished at this stage of their careers. However when Tatum is passive and floats around the perimeter watching the ball then I give the edge to Brown. I’m extremely pleased they are both Celtics

Right now I'd take Brown by a hair. Tatum is a solid defender but Brown is elite. Brown doesn't need the ball to be an effective scorer. He doesn't look as pretty scoring but he gets it done. Tatum will get better, but so will Brown. Brown's overall upside is higher imo, though Tatum's upside as a pure scorer is higher.

Super happy to have both.

In the here and now, I'd still say Tatum, but it's a lot closer than when the question was first asked. Also, Brown just had a career-high scoring game, which puts the recency effect into full force. In the long run, I think Tatum is a clearer choice. He just has a more complete package of basketball skills. Glad we have them both and hope neither is outgoing for anyone not named Anthony Davis.

I voted Brown, Because I feel he is more consistent and produces more . I do think that Tatum has more to offer, with his ball handling. Brown needs to dunk and stop worrying about it. Tatum needs to get more aggressive. My concerns with Tatum is with a healthy Hayward is how he progresses.. Brown and Tatum and Hayward may not work..

This thread is a the reason why I don't want to see DA trade either of them for some like Leonard.

If you spend time on the general board (not recomended) you would get the joke. Yes, this should be green font.

Two very special young players. They deserve a massive amount of credit for stepping up and maturing on the job in Haywards absence. The future is very bright for both players.
The last young wing combo with this much potential was McGrady/Carter.
If say Durant/Harden too except Harden isn't a wing...hes a 100% a ball handling guard.

I'm all about Jaylen Brown, and really think he would've done similar stuff last year if given the minutes (but Brad Stevens HATED him!!/greenfont) -- but it does stand out to me that *all* of the advanced stats favor Tatum.

I also have to admit I don't know what we do with both of these guys plus Hayward going forward.

That said, Brown has been fantastic, and with his makeup, he's easy to believe in.

I'm being confused by this part. Tatum's last 15 games:

16.4 PPG (48.4% / 41.5% / 82.4%)
5.4 RPG
2.4 APG
1.1 SPG
0.5 BPG

If anything he's come on strong in Kyrie's absence. Those are incredible numbers.

Love both guys. I feel Brown always gets sold a bit short in these discussions and they are equal right now. Brown is a better defender but Tatum is a better offensive player.

I really like the improvements Brown has made this year over last year. That says a lot about his hard work. I still think he has a ways to go but he is headed in the right direction.

As far as you is the better better right now, I go with Tatum. Tatum does things on the floor at times where I’m like, wow. His handles, shooting, step back shots are impressive especially for a rookie.

Barring any trades, I look forward for both of them improving their games next year and becoming our 3rd and 4th best players behind Hayward and Irving.

On the whole, I think Brown has a better ceiling after his play this season. He's proven to be really good on both sides of the ball, and the athleticism is undeniable. I feel weird typing that though, given how well Tatum's rookie season has gone. It's pretty darn close, barely more than a coin flip.

I think the league values Tatum more though. And I would think the combo of Brown+return for Tatum would be better than Tatum+return for Brown if one of them were to be traded. Especially if the trade is for a big man.

I know he's done well scoring with the uptick in usage. What I was hinting at was that Tatum can't showcase his all-around game (which I think in the present, separates him from Jaylen moreso than scoring), like he did for most of the season.

If you look at +/-, there was an argument to be made most of the year that Tatum was our 3rd best defender behind Horford and Smart, and best overall player.

A lot of people in this thread are saying "Tatum offense, Brown defense". I think that's selling Tatum's impact short. He's already our most versatile defender, and when the team was healthy, that made him into a centerpiece of sorts because of the constant switching. He can protect the rim in a way that Brown or Smart can't, he can contain ballhandlers in a way Horford or Theis can't. The attrition has lessened that defensive impact.

They are both studs. I think both can be 20 plus ppg scorers in league.

they’re both really good - but if we are comparing our rookie with our sophomore & agreeing at this point they’re close, I have to go Tatum . He reminds me of Tracy McGrady. I love both though & hope they’re in Green for a long long time.

Gonna be fun to see superstar Tatum and Brown on the floor with Hayward and Kyrie.
