Very enjoyable breakdown of primo team D in action
One day Leon Powe and I were cracking up on Eddie House’s tattoo.…[Garnett] was like, ‘C’mon, Scal, it’s time to rock! What the ‘F’ are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘You know what? You’re right. It is time to rock.’ – Brian Scalabrine

The Boston Celtics just held the #1 ranked offense in the league to 97 points (just 83 points when Snyder emptied the bench) on 40% shooting from the field and 22% from three. Pour in 10 blocks, 8 steals and 2 offensive fouls drawn

I feel bad for Gobert. He's going to get crapped on for the porous Utah defense in the playoffs and "getting exposed when teams go small" when it's just that nobody on the Jazz can stay in front of their man and he has to go help on like three drives on every possession.

Mitchell and Clarkson are a joke defensively

I know it's not popular here but found this on the Celtics Reddit and couldn't help but chuckle because this is **** true.

Are we still the Best Defense, without Rob Williams (until he returns)?

I think we are ranked 12-16 in the league since his injury.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Wouldn't that be theoretically impossible, unless you believe RW has no impact on defense.

I am still in the RW for DPOY camp.. at minimum I hope RW still gets a ton of votes, even if he doesn't win it. Really want him to feel appreciated and recognized outside the Celtic fan base.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

The Celtics defensive rating for every game since Timelord got injured:
Toronto 108.5
Miami 103.9
Indiana 124.2
Washington 106.3
Chicago 95.9

As a comparison point the best non-Celtics defenses this year have a 106.7 defensive rating.

Even with the Indiana hiccup they have a 107.8 defensive rating over the past 5 games which is 5th in the league in that span.

Irving and Durant are going to make shots regardless of the defensive pressure they face so I'm not mad about the 54/46/79 shooting splits by the Nets. That was a beautiful stop at the end:

So I haven't really highlighted individuals in this thread because I believe defense is a team effort, but in honor of Marcus Smart's DPOY trophy, here's a bunch of highlights. All Marcus videos are great obviously but I recommed the first one in particular. Just a masterclass in how to defend on the perimeter by the best to do it (with quite a few tricks that can be applied to your game). Some great stuff on the mental aspect of defense as well (and damn he's quick).

This is one of the greatest defenses of all time. There, I said it. No ordinary defense - not even the typical best defense in the league in any given year - can do what we are doing to KD right now. Hot take? Maybe, but I'm standing by it.

What they are doing to arguably the greatest scorer in history is actually unreal.
