My first thought was wow he's pretty good I'm surprised the Spurs gave him up. Then I saw the package we gave up. I think Brad and the FO are extremely high on White and his fit here. Based on the package you would think White is firmly in the "core" of the team.

Is White as slow as he looks?

Probably not that big of a deal, but we traded away the two fastest players on the team in Schroder and Richardson.

I think the fans that love Marcus will love him and vice versa.

Glad to have his defense, but we lost a ton of bench offense today losing Romeo, Dennis, and Josh. Who will score off our bench now?

I love, LOVE this trade. Think we sold high on Richardson, Romeo had no future here, and we're likely looking at a high teens / 20s draft pick we gave up.

We now have a beastly two-way lineup defensively with any combo of Smart/White/Brown/Tatum/Rob/Al.

White's clearly already outperforming his contract and locked in for 3.5 more years, which in this day and age is just critical.

Its clearly time for Nesmith to step up and i think we will be seeing alot of Sam Hauser.
We need Hauser to get some playing time and experience to see if he can be a viable 3 pt shooter off the bench.

Just checked on Derrick White's Pre-Draft Measurements in 2017:

6' 3" Height without shoes (1 inch taller than Marcus Smart, who now sports a lot of hair on his head)

6' 7.5 Inch Wingspan

34 Inch NO STEP VERTICAL

3.08 Second 3/4 Sprint Time

8.25 Inch Hand Width by 8.5 Inch Hand Length

6.2% Body Fat

Not really.. if you watch him, he's very alert on his feet, agile - knows where to move on both sides of the ball

Different players, but White's ppg aren't far from Schroder's. Romeo wasn't in the rotation. We'll miss Josh's shooting. Nesmith stepping up would be huge. A good shooter on the buyout market would be huge (It's a long shot, but Gary Harris is at 38.8 this year.)

But we need our own guys to shoot better. That's been happening on this recent run.. Can't say it enough - Smart, Al, Tatum are all below their career averages this year, Al and Tatum are *way* below - bad instead of good and mediocre instead of elite. The two guys we're getting are below their career marks, too. If even two of those five heat up, the shooting stops being a liability.

I hope White has a long and successful run here, with multiple titles:)

He was a thorn in our side with the Spurs lately -- one of those rangy, under-the-radar good-at-basketball-in-an-old-school-way guys!

Should be great here in his role, whatever it is. In a weird way, he's a great Hayward replacement(?), and I also love having a Marcus Smart replacement ready to go if ever needed.

True story. First came to know White as a player when i picked him up off the wire for my fantasy team for the 18-19 season. Been a bit of a fan ever since. One thing that stuck out to me was he blocks shots at a good rate for a guard. Stoked to have him as a Celtic. Our defense is going to be pretty good.

Really like the guy. He is the right guy for this team. That's what I have to say about it

I think White is objectively the best player involved in the deals the Celtics made today, so that seems like it should be a win. They didn't give up too much I don't think, though I think there is valid reasons to wonder if it was an overpay.

But if the Celtics get the better player, upgraded their core talent, and ducked the luxury tax, that also seems like a good thing.

I personally didn't want to see Richardson go, but he had limitations. If White basically eats a majority of the Schroder and Richardson minutes, that makes the main 8 guys a pretty nice rotation.

I haven't seen this anywhere yet, do we know what year the first round pick is going to be?
