I find it worth repeating but for J Brown to have B2B games, on the road, and with 2 victories, against Rival teams, all while playing major minutes ... and NOT have a single turnover is way past unbelievable for me.. It's not like JB stopped playing aggressively either.

JB better be careful... He may set the Bar too high...
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

This is an embarrassment. The last thread was 84 pages….about 5 pages total of that was contentious or abrasive back and forth conversation- and that’s being a bit hyperbolic. People exchanged words and then moved on before it got out of hand or control. At best it was light ball breaking within guidelines.

Jaylen brown is always going to be a polarizing figure- all sports teams have players like this. People who loved him early on will say “I told you so” people who didn’t will continue to knock him and those who have changed opinions will be accused of “moving goal posts”. This whole forum and website thrives because of spirited debates like this. He’s not even the first Celtic people are passionate about one way or the other and he won’t be the last and as long as it’s not vulgar or extremely crude how can a mod or anyone shut down a thread because they don’t like the way the conversation is currently or is “headed” when it’s 95% within forum rules.

That’s what sports is about. I must say it’s ironic that you say “Jaylen deserves better” in reference to this new thread after some posters have brought up how sensitive some appear to be in any criticism of the player. Isn’t that proving that point and also what does that even mean? He deserves better.

We have one the best sub forums here because we are passionate and very vocal fans. We have some of the best mods going but this was just wrong and extremely soft and a very slippery slope.

Spoiler:
I love feedback, thanks.

It's regrettable that I locked the thread to start fresh without the anger and now I have people angry at me in the thread lol.

I just wanted the thread to be about Jaylen Brown instead of increasing tension, insults and petty **** swinging built up over months of the same stupid repetitive childish arguments. That's what I meant, he deserves a better thread. The last one got lame and stale imo. There were reports earlier and it became a thing for the mods so it felt like time to end the thread which happens at some point anyway. I don't really gaf what side of the Jaylen debate people are on. It's truly of no interest to me.

I certainly wasn't trying to embarrass anyone by making a new thread. That seems like an absurd way to feel about such a thing if I'm being honest lmao. I do much more embarrassing things on the regular. Not even sure how this situation makes any impact at all on anyone's life or would cause such feelings.

But I'll reflect on it. If it seemed like I was calling anyone out in particular it wasn't my intention. In any case, I'm going to have a nice night now.

Yay my first (and likely last) WOS.

Comedian, I hope all goes well with your gf. I lost my father a few days ago and actually typed out a very ban worthy rant in the recently deceased thread. Luckily I never hit send. Sometimes you just need a place to vent.

To the regulars: while it is generally a good idea not to feed the trolls, if the majority of your posts are to lower the bar rather than raise it, you will not be viewed as neutral or rational. Especially by new or more casual posters. Jaylen discussions here can be a pretty bad look imo, mainly because the extremely low opinions go largely unchecked, while the overly optimistic opinions do not.

Season’s been fun and entertaining. Our Cs are rolling early. Core guys seem to have improved still as individuals and and as a group. New guys have fit in nicely. So I pledge to give off more positive vibes when it comes to our guys, yes yes including Jaylen. Will limit my criticisms in game threads. Doesn’t mean I no longer see room for improvement. But maybe it’s better to stop whining about what these guys can’t do and focus on what they can do do. Zero turnovers in consecutive games you guys! He’s already had three 0-turnover games and we’re not even a third into the season (Had only 4, 4, 3 of those games past three seasons). Him reading the floor/game better will only bode well for our offense (and defense, since live TOs lead to easy points for the bad guys).

This goes out to my brother-in-hate too, The Comedian. Hope the gf gets well soon!

Mazzulla ran a bunch of plays where Jaylen comes around a curl, catches the ball on the move, and quickly passes out to the second cutter. Really nice way to take advantage of Jaylen's strengths, which includes scoring gravity especially on those catches on the move and passing to people right in front of him. Mazzulla basically presented Jaylen with an option instead of forcing Jaylen to make reads and just feel where open guys would be.
For all his flaws, Jaylen's development with the Celtics has been a case study for putting someone in the right place to succeed, and for a player responding well to restricted but ever expanding roles without complaining.

So I'm reluctant to even say anything since the whole point of the new thread was to get some of the anger out of the conversation and now the thread is about people being angry with me. But I've been thinking about this all night and I'm pretty bummed about it.

I can't agree that I or anyone should be embarrassed that we have a new Jaylen Brown thread. Seems like a really silly thing to even care about in the grand scheme of things.

I'm trying to figure out why it caused the reaction it did and I'm thinking I was perhaps a little overbearing in my original post. I apologize for that. I spend most of my time on RGM modding the General Board which gets much more traffic and has many more problems than the Celtics board. Over there things can get out of hand very quickly so my MO is generally to nip things in the bud so I don't have to spend my day babysitting a bunch of weirdos for the zero pay I get for doing this lol. But that obviously rubs some people the wrong way on the C's board and I'll learn from this moving forward. The thing about "no personal attacks" is basic RGM policy, not me trying to be robocop.

It also seems like my one line about "Jaylen deserves a better thread" came across as somehow divisive and controversial. If anyone reacted that way I am very caught off guard and would suggest maybe reflecting on why you got upset that I said one nice thing about Jaylen Brown in the OP of a thread about him. Like, huh?

I don't often even click on this thread because I am a Jaylen Brown moderate and in general I am not drawn to threads where I feel like I'm on thin ice and going to get chewed out no matter what I say. It's just not my thing. I have enough problems in my real life and when I come on RGM I want to have a nice time, not fight people.

So I really don't even know who is a "lover" or "hater" of JB or what you guys are even saying about him. It's of no interest to me. It wasn't my intention to pick sides here.

Anyway, wanted to clarify and whine a bit I guess. Thanks for reading. I remain completely uninterested in the discussion here and I have no intention of overmodding the thread or modding it at all really lol. So it's the same thing as before and everyone can do their thing as far as I'm concerned. Cheers.

And I do mean always. Even in a situation so extreme that you don't mind the death (it's a mercy, you were estranged, whatever), you'll be sad as what came before is brought to mind.

It’s a solid post after being 100% wrong in shutting down the thread. I give bisme credit for reflecting and articulating his points. There was no reason whatsoever to shut down the last thread but he pretty much covered that in his recent post so credit to him.

It’s not about picking sides either- that thread was 10 months old and 84 pages long. The fact that it was ongoing and 90% a productive thread shows you that users here didn’t think it was “stale” or not “refreshing”. Correct me if I’m wrong but a mods job isn’t to determine what is and isn’t good conversation….the posters do that. Bad threads die or never get going in the first place.

I thought mods were supposed to make sure the conversation stays within guidelines and no rules were broken. Regardless of where anyone stands on Jaylen if users are engaging in back and forth dialogue in a mostly civil or overwhelmingly civil tone no matter how redundant it’s not up to anyone to decide if the content is “old”. If it is don’t come in and if it is the thread will die. the line “so and so deserves better” is just a cringe line for an online forum built on debate regardless of who it’s about and that’s why I said it.

I used the word embarrassing and I meant in the context of the job- not in ya know someone’s actual life. there’s trade threads with the same deals discussed year round even past the deadline….you can’t just shut them down because this topic is boring you. The users make this place active. They direct the flow of conversation- not the other way around.

Good post in general, but I don't totally agree with the "right in front of him" phrasing. Jaylen's non-trivial passes are typically somewhat pre-planned, but he's gotten pretty good at drive-and-kick pass delivery.

In general, multiple Celtics are throwing tough passes to the roll man, because you need more precision if you're hitting Grant or Blake or even Luke than if you're hitting Rob. And a larger fraction of Jaylen's good passes may be of that type than of, say, Tatum's or Smart's. But that's about as far as I'd go in agreeing with the "straight ahead" formulation.

I’m fine with it being restarted. There was a lot of baiting and trolling and you that were doing it should be ashamed of yourselves ;)

Fact is, this is an all-time Celtics roster up there with the 80s teams and KG era and Jaylen is a major reason for that. Like BK pointed out and what I’ve been asking for for ages, Jaylen has been put n position to succeed like never before. Coming off curls, limiting his ball handling and need to think and essentially making the game simpler. Joe is providing him with sets that allow Jaylen’s gifts to shine and he’s thriving. Does Joe follow me on here? Might be

All threads get rebooted when they get to 100. Let’s not make too big a deal. How about we just talk Celtics basketball - it’s really good right now.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Is greatness for Jaylen Brown a possibility? Can he become a superstar? The answer is yes if he wants to become an elite player. Here are some areas that require attention. The flaws in Jaylen's are forcing shots, excessive dribbling, passing skills require more work, defensive lapses, and mental errors. Metal errors can result from not reading defenses accurately, seeing entire court and an awareness of all the location of teammates and the defensive players. An elite player needs to adjust his game to whatever the defenses allow. Being consistent finding ways to affect the outcome of any game and improving. These areas of Jaylen's game have to be fine tuned. Has Jaylen Brown the desire to do the hard work day after day and not be distracted by off the court activities. Are you ready Jaylen Brown????? Jaylen Brown had a significant boost to his game under the tutorial instructor named Brad Stevens. Jaylen Brown it's your call now??????????????????????

Sorry to hear about your Dad. My Condolences.
