2023-24: Jay Scrubb, JD Davison

So far, we haven't had success with the two-ways except for Hauser (*crosses fingers*). Strus ended up being successful except on another team lol.

Thanks for putting this together — Walt Lemon Jr was a bucket! Brodric was, in retrospect, not. I will keep the Tacko flame alive in my heart even though it’s trending towards the Not Happening bunker.

Scrubb and JD have all star and Finals MVP potential until they don’t;)

Dozier has been hanging around on the back of a couple of rosters since then as well.

Yeah I was going to say Dozier was a real NBA player before his ACL tear. So that's three guys out of the first six years (with Davison TBD) to find a rotation spot somewhere. Of course it would have better for them to find their minutes in Boston but considering the hit rate on two ways has to be super low in general I think the Celtics have shown a decent eye for talent in those spots.

Steward doesn't get his own thread??

Anyway, strong history of having DJs on the Celtics roster:
• Dennis "DJ" Johnson - starting point guard for 84 and 86 title teams
• Demetrius "DJ" Jackson - are we still paying this guy?
• DJ White - from the infamous DJ White trade that netted us Keith Bogans and Kris Humphries
• DJ MacLeay - an assistant coach with the Celtics
• Shaquille O'Neal - aka DJ Diesel

This is just POBO Brad sticking a fork in Morey, who can't even get Steward as starting PG replacement when Harden inevitably sits out the season.

Souichi Terada - Mass Live

Steward, 21, was a five-star recruit coming out of high school where he signed with Duke for college. He had an unconventional freshman year, though, in the middle of the pandemic for 2020-21. Steward averaged 13.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 22 games.

While Steward didn’t get too many NBA looks after going undrafted, his stock rose considerably after he played for the 76ers at Summer League this offseason. In five games, he averaged 16.2 points and had some breakout games, including a 36-point outing against the Pelicans. Steward also averaged 12.0 points and 4.3 assists per game for the G-League Stockton Kings.

Expect the Celtics to sign at least a few more intriguing names in the coming weeks ahead of camp considering they have an open two-way slot.

I was just watching this vid. The dude clearly has some game. He can score. He can handle the ball, he's bouncy. And still only 21 yrs old, so could have some upside - especially since he's a former 5 star recruit coming out of HS.

Exactly the type of low risk, high reward type of flier you take with these training camp deals.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I can’t remember ever hearing about this guy before and he looks okay.

Draft.net said he’s 6’2” with a 6’7” wingspan.
This draft profile said he’s a combo guard — promising scorer, not much of a passer — who needed to refine his shooting and bulk up — I’m guessing he’s made progress in at least one of those things by now:

Now bring us Javonte Green, Brad!

Steward looks more of a combo guard than a PG. Not much of a passer but can score.

Seems vaguely similar to that Craig Porter Jr guy I liked as an UDFA.

Can we petition the Celtics to have him wear #71 in your honor ?

I was kinda saving that for when I get signed as a VUDFA at age 71. I'm counting on many, many medical advancements and the development of high end conversion tech that turns lame posts on a basketball forum into actual basketball skills. I have lots of time (and lame posts), so should be fine.

Possible bigs we could sign for the last 2-way spot..not really in a particular order..

Charles Bediako
Jake Stephens
Harry Giles
Aliou Diarra
Moses Wright
Michael Foster Jr
Usman Garuba
Mouhamet Diouf

I figure Garuba is unlikely to accept a 2-way, considering he's already played 2 seasons on a standard NBA contract and could certainly make more $ overseas than he would on a 2-way (he's from Spain and used play for Real Madrid)..if we sign him, it'd likely be to a standard contract.

Stephens is intriguing because he's a big who can shoot.

Diarra is intriguing because (while he's an undersized big) he is VERY quick for a big.

Louis King is a guy I think could have a Gerald green trajectory. Came out too early, super athlete, carve out a good career as a scoring role player wing. I really wanted the Celtics to draft him when he came in 2019 or whatever...
