Oh, I am not discarding Walsh at all, but TJD looks like he could have really helped the Celtics this season

Walsh was drafted for the future, not the present.

That's what I heard during the draft.

I mean, that kind of just stating the obvious. TJD was arguably the best player in college basketball last season and turns 24 this season.

When TJD turns 24, Walsh will still only be 19. So of course TJD is better right now, today.

But the Celtics took Walsh for his long term potential, not what he would bring to the team on a reg season game in December of his rookie year.

Long term, Walsh has a higher ceiling than an undersized big man who can't shoot and was 23 on draft night.

And the Celtics chose to pick the guy with more long term potential over someone who could possibly help more this season because they are a team with title aspirations - they're the title favorites and it's very rare for a rookie picked in the 2nd round to be a significant contributor on a team that good.

The last 5 teams to win the title - none of them had a 2nd round pick rookie (or UDFA) in their playoff rotation.

Also, TJD fell as far as he did on draft night because he did not want to take a 2-way contract. He wanted a full contract. Although we did eventually end up giving Walsh a standard contract, it was by no means a certainty that he was gonna get one from us on draft night. Picking mid to late 2nd round, you'd ideally have the flexibility of drafting a guy who you could put on a 2-way, or put on a standard contract - or even have the flexibility of being able to stash him overseas (depending on how he looks in summer league, how the rest of your roster ends up shaking out, etc.).

So potentially No KP, Al and Kornet at center?? and No Tatum?? I love Queta more than most, but this is bad team to stay out of foul trouble with. But between Brisset and Queta at least we can have some energy out there on defense. Like the other game where Boston had to play the deep bench, we have a lot of guys who are dying to get their chance. They will Bring energy. Looking at you Banton and Stevens!!

Dare I say anything is possible?
