Basically I already know the Lakers are somehow going to get a new superstar dumped in their lap every generation, and it's annoying and everything, but in this case I'm not mad at all that their new guy is Luka Doncic. He's not scary to me or the guy who's leading them to their next title.

And I think the Mavs had legit concerns about his conditioning and professionalism and din't want to pay him his looming supermax. So they got an all-nba HOF center and a future first.

Once I got over the surprise it's really not that weird to me. But the main reaction from people is just knee-jerk "Luka is awesome and I hate the Lakers and the NBA." To me it's kinda funny and not that big of a deal. But I'm getting my ass chewed haha and should probably just shut up about it haha.

Seems a pretty fair take. I don’t hate it for the Mavs but I think they needed more picks coming back to square the value.

Not that different to my take really. The only thing hard to fathom was not trying to see full market value, even if I can understand that AD is likely the best player they were going to get in a win-now preference scenario.

For those unable to see the problems with Luka and get seduced by his talent it's impossible to understand why you'd do this trade.

No problem with trading Doncic when they felt they had to move on from him (though they would've more likely gotten more had they signed him to his max extension then traded him). My first reaction was Lakers still aren't winning a title with Luka-Lebron. My issue is with how Dallas didn't squeeze the Lakers dry for a player that is still deemed a top 5 player in the league regardless of how we personally feel about his game/impact on winning. AD is awesome when healthy, but Mavs were content with getting one pick back when the standard for trading a star past few years has been at least 3 FRPs (+ swaps + 2nds). It's not like AD is a young star on the rise. They "lost leverage" when they approached just one team. Or there's something shady that went on considering the relationship between the GMs.

KG was leaving his prime years, Luka is just beginning to enter his prime years. Big difference. Mavs should have gotten more.

You're missing that tiny detail that every team was allowed to bid for KG. KG also had a say in where he was going since he could turn down an extension and walk in FA.
