What do you guys mean? We're below the 2nd, above the tax right now afaik. Which is what this thread said.

Is there a new deal I missed today?

O maybe interpreted it more as just drop a tier or two this year and don’t worry about carrying a bit of a tax burden even if it repeater going forward. The moves they made dropped several tiers and looks like they want to be out of the tax next year and reset the repeater clock…aka they afraid!!!!

They're still in it the luxury tax and paying repeater rates right now. Repeater is about the tax line for 25-26, not the 2nd apron.

Now they still may duck it this summer / by end of year as hpf suggests, but my whole point in this thread was that it was OK to be at the exact level we're at now.

Copy all that. I am saying my interpretation of “don’t fear the repeater” was different.

Celtics feared going into the repeater. Pussies.

They're still in it right now.

They're above the first apron by 7 mil, which isn't their concern. Their concern for the repeater for the second apron.

The "repeater tax" is a specific term that concerns the luxury tax, and only the tax line - not the apron. That was what this thread was about. It wasn't advocating staying over the 2nd apron at all

I don't think so. If you're above the second apron for x amount of what's you are in the repeater.

It's disingenuous to say the least because they just shaved two major contracts and saved over 220 million in taxes and you're worried about the first apron? Lol naw dog.

You google "nba repeater" and it talks specifically about the lux tax. Not the aprons. There's a "repeater tax" not an apron repeater.

I'm sorry if you misunderstood the thread or didn't look at the details, but it always says TAX not apron. And the numbers I laid out are clearly below the 2nd apron.

Just tell us what your point is. Was your point that they were not shedding money this off-season?

I'm too stupid to understand it, clearly.

My point was that they had to exactly what they just did. Get below the 2nd apron. But they don't have to do FURTHER cuts to duck the luxury tax. My point was that it was OK to be at this point and still pay some tax.

I guess my bad was I just assumed anyone reading the thread, would know that the "repeater tax" was the term and that it meant the tax line not the aprons.

From the original post

If you're $17M over this year that means you can:
- drop Jrue/KP
- keep Hauser
- sign Kornet for $5-6M
- have ~$35M to round out the roster with 3-4 guys.

So clearly I was saying you have to shed money.

Meh. They are distinct from each other and not mutually exclusive but they're the same thing.

We're 15 mil from the luxury tax threshold and it would serve everyone's best interest to get under it now.

This is the part I'm saying we don't HAVE to do. If it allows us to keep better players / more assets for the future.

We don't have to do anything. They're just cheap. Let's call it the way it is.

If we do go all the way under the tax line, this thread was wrong. You can come back at me if we duck the tax fully if you want. But we're literally exactly at the point now that this thread said was a valid place to be.

So you're in agreement with the Celtics and that we needed to get worse for the year to save a couple hundred million for our poor owners?

Yes. It was in the first post, man. I even requoted it for you today. Not sure what else I can do here. It was all about the degree/extent of how much to save. Nuance.

And... we're back. That's the point of the thread - maybe we don't. Maybe just being under the apron and not tossing all the players/assets to get under the tax line is OK.

You disagree and that's fine. But, it's just a little early to claim victory since we haven't actually ducked the tax yet.
