Ainge sucks at free agency, and he could max Paul Milsap and Reggie Jackson and draft a bust- plus he needs to have the restraint to stay under the cap if there are no good opportunities. But you could have Love, Smart, Bradley, Young, Zeller, Cauley-Stein or Oubre, Kevin Love and Reggie Jackson, and multiple picks in 2016.. Plus Sullynyk as trade bait. Basically we could be like Cleveland this summer with a good GM and patient ownership..

I'm not sure what Ainge has done to make you think otherwise here? heh, the situation you laid out wouldn't even be possible without Ainge building the way he has. I'm probably misinterpreting what you are saying anyway. I doubt Love comes here anyway. I suppose he is in a special circumstance of being a free agent at the end of the year, but I can't imagine him pulling a Howard especially considering he is arguably playing with the best player in the world. I'd like to believe he'd at least give it a go for one more year with the Cavs if this season really does turn into a disaster but weirder things have happened.

Yeah, I meant we'd be in the same situation as Cleveland last summer, except instead of being desperate to reconcile with Lebron, we'd have a good GM and patient ownership building on a similar foundation of talent.

Re: Rumor:Celtics Are Actively Looking to Trade Both Jeff Green & Bass.
Howard was playing with Kobe and Pau Gasol.. Love has a little diva in him, and he's being completely mis-used in Cleveland. Unless they go on a huge run that makes better use of his talents, I think he's gone.
And even if we don't get Love, we can upgrade with a good free agent signing- think Al Jefferson to Charlotte or Paul Milsapp to Atlanta.
I think, barring a Love coup, they either throw the max at Deandre Jordan (risky money), woo him hard at slightly less than the max (safe money, but less likely to succeed), or go hard at one of Asik/Koufos/Lopez with a slight overpay - probably Asik - and try to get Milsap or Jackson with the rest.
Plan A, IMO: get Love to commit, then stretch/trade Wallace and try to get Deandre Jordan.
Plan B: Max Deandre.
Plan C: Sign Asik in week one. Explore options with the rest of the money- if we dealt Green for Isaiah Thomas, look for a 3 or 4. If we didn't get Thomas, go after Reggie Jackson or Jimmy Butler. Stretch/trade Wallace if you get either guy to commit, then assess options with Bradley.

They unfortunately don't seem like a good trade partner as they are over the cap so salaries need to match and any player of value they aren't going to move. Green for Prince and their 2017 first? Perhaps a three team trade?

I don't think Miami deals Deng..
Memphis opens the bidding with Tayshaun Prince. What do the Bulls, Clippers, Hornets, Pelicans, Raptors, Wizards, Lakers, and Suns offer?

We don't really want a player in return, we just want the pick to open up playing time for everyones new binky ....young.
Plus this way we can force feed crowder minutes and see what he is about.

Yeah this is sort of what I meant. As they are over the cap the salaries need to match up so we can't just trade Green for some end of the bench bit player and a draft pick. The only player with a big enough salary to match who they would actually trade is Prince, would he be happy at the end of the Celtics bench getting DNP 's with Gerry? Probably not but he appears to be their only choice.

I say the bidding involves Memphis, Toronto, Phoenix. Maybe LA, Washington and NOP.

Is Hollinger still active with the Griz? I had thought his influence was drastically curtailed during the coup last May by controlling owner robert pera, who rehabilitated old friend Chris Wallace of all people
http://www.nba.com/grizzlies/news/chris ... ger-140729
there was some doubt as to whether Hollinger was going to stay on, he did so and kept his title but i would have to think his views may not have the sway they had under the prior regime under Jason Levien and Stu Lash, with whom Hollinger was closely aligned
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2068 ... fter-clash
which is a long way of saying that Hollinger may be on an island in Memphis in much the same was Wallace was after Hollinger was brought in back in 2012

Hollinger would be a moron if he wouldn't take Green over Prince because of his advanced statistics. The eye-test shows who the better player is, and it's not close. And our players tend to play well in Memphis too, like Courtney Lee. Let's agree on a deal and ship him out soon. This awful little league rotations have to stop.

If we could somehow pull Kosta Koufos from them, I'd be ecstatic. Salaries are tough, though. If we can get him without hurting our cap flexibility, I'd be down.

Re: Rumor:Celtics Are Actively Looking to Trade Both Jeff Green & Bass.
Prince would be an obvious buyout candidate to me. Don't see how we could salvage anything a la Humphries in a S&T and that single slot of expiring for $6-8m is already covered with Thornton. I also just wouldn't have the heart to do something like that to Brad at this point.
I like their rookie, Jordan Adams, but that feels steep for what is most likely an expiring. They do need to go all in as this may be their last hurrah with Gasol and ZBo. Adams was drafted 5 slots after Young. Their first round pick this year being out of their hands, but likely to go to them(15-30 protection) leaves me murky on what they can do.

That pick they owed the Cavs (now Denver) has protections on it until 2019. It will most likely be a 2016 pick... but they can't trade any more first round picks (except for 2020) until that is settled. So... basically, they will be offering Prince and a couple late 2nds. Which is lame. Not sure how this would work. Maybe they could send Kosta to a 3rd team for a 1st? I'd like Kosta for ourselves, but he is an expiring. We can just sign him this summer if we want him.
So basically... if we want to deal Green to the Griz, our return would be 1. some 2nds 2. Jordan Adams or 3. Kosta (or whatever they can get for him from a 3rd team)
