Grant is a PF, but he ends up playing the back-up 3, because Jayson is basically the back-up SF and he slides to the 4, kinda

Basically, with 8-10minpg of Theis or Grant at Center kinda

That's way too many minutes for rookies if this team has any real designs on the playoffs.

Big minutes from Edwards, Langford, and both Williams. That's scary. I mean, Tatum and Brown still don't have their footing either and are coming off crappy seasons.

This is the team we have, barring a deal. Edwards/Langford/Williams are going to get big minutes.

Either that or we are going to have 6 players playing 40 minutes a night.

Hayward, Kemba, Tatum and Jaylen for sure! Smarts minutes can be dialed back a bit depending on matchups.

I want the young guys playing big minutes. Regular season means next to nothing and we need at least 1 or 2 of those guys to become decent contributors when the playoffs start.

I thought this team wouldn't want to have 3 rookies on the roster.

Right now there will definitely be 4: G. Williams, Edwards, Langford, and Poirier. Plus two more rookies are still in the running for a place on the team: Waters and Fall.

There's a chance they'll have 5 rookies on the 15 man roster.

Steven Adams

Ainge better be all over this - we absolutely have assets to obtain him and he’d be a PERFECT fit with the starters...

Maybe:
Kevin Love to OKC
Steven Adams to BOS
Picks/prospects/expirings to CLE

I’d even contemplate parting with the MEM pick for him

We have a trade thread you know? And no, we shouldn't be all over him. He's severly overpaid and we don't have salaries to even match unless you want to trade Hayward.

Bulpett said Danny wasn't done making changes, right? Assuming he's correct, wonder what else is out there.

I think a lot could depend on what Toronto will do now. They still have a nice roster, but if Masai decides it's time to rebuild... boy... Ibaka would fit in perfectly here. Same with Gasol.

We don't have salaries to match. Unless you're trading away Smart/Brown/Tatum/Hayward (which would be dumb).

Yeah, but Austin said on the Summer League telecast that this was essentially the roster moving into the season barring something unforeseen (which is entirely possible given how quickly the landscape is changing).

We all watched Giannis completely annihilate us last year. We all know what's going to happen if Tatum is our PF and second string center is RWill.

Kanter's rebounding is better than Horford's. Poirier led the Euroleague in rebounding, so I am going to say it is likely he will better (or at least equal) Baynes' rebounding (4.7 last year). We lose Marcus Morris' 6 RPG, but I expect we can make that up. We averaged 44.5 RPG last year. League average was 45.17. I don't see that we have really lost anything with our rebounding, and may actually have improved in that area. Both Kanter and Poirier are good offensive rebounders too.

So size only matters with the Celtics? Giannis can’t drive a hole through LA Clippers because their jerseys aren’t green? Clippers don’t have Gasol, Ibaka and Siakam. They might be great defensively but they are even softer in middle than Celtics. Bulls in 90s had 6-10 Pippin and still needed Cartwright, Grant, Rodman, Longley etc.

I get that our team has holes....but it has incredible strengths too. Maybe not at level of PG/Kawhi yet but enough to cause problems in the East.

Size matters more when you are also not a good defender.

Have you watched Harrell play? His wingspan is 7'4". What big on our roster would you take over him?

Also Paul George can actually play PF and like I said a finalist for DPOY. Kawhi is also amongst the best defenders in the league.

Their top two players are top 10 in the league.

It’s JULY. They just had a major disruption to the team. They need to see what they have. If they don’t have enough talent to make the playoffs, none of this matters. If they do but look like they have serious flaws still, there’s plenty of time to make a trade. This isn’t the MLB where it’s hard to make the postseason.

Just don’t understand all the freaking out. They are extremely limited in terms of what they can do personnel-wise right now because of the cap. The choice was either building a complete team or getting Walker. Unless you want to be trading away core pieces like Brown or Tatum or Smart, or first-round picks, or both, you’re not getting a playoff-ready team on day 1.

But who cares? Why are people afraid a few bad losses in November? Let’s see how they look, then worry about it.

Thank you.

Isn’t that Ainge’s story all the time? Don’t think he’s ever that content. Ibaka’s salary is huge, not sure we could match if. He’d def add toughness. Reminds me of Perk in that aspect.

I don't really consider Poirier, who has been a pro player for five years, a rookie.

The post mortem on the season showed IMO that Morris was not the problem. It was Kyrie butting heads with everybody but especially Rozier and Brown.

I would def have brought Morris back.

the problems with morris weren't so much about chemistry and effort, but rather playing style and having too many guys in that hybrid SF/PF role. tatum and hayward are going to get those minutes, and then grant williams. we don't need morris jacking iso shots from that spot, and then getting pissed that he's not starting.

Well, this is where we disagree. I don't think we have anybody in the SF/PF role. I guess Grant but he's a rookie.

Hayward, Brown, and Tatum are all SG/SFs. They are all weak at interior defense and rebounding. They are all much better on the perimeter.

Tatum averaged 6 rebounds/game last year, about what Horford averaged. Hayward and Brown around 4.5 RPG, which would make them adequate rebounders for their positions, not "weak."

Read on Twitter

Capela, Gordon, Hartenstein for Westbrook with Capela going to a third team? (No one is taking on CP's contract.)

3 stars who want/need the ball in their hands? I don't understand what the Rockets are trying to do.

Return to Boston Celtics
