Re: Welcome to Boston Mike Muscala!
Not to distract from the previous And insightful posts But has anyone noticed that Muscala has played more of the 4 since joining us than played the 5?
I find that a pleasant surprise. And while the sample size is still very small, He hasn't been beaten too many times on defense..
If he can handle the 4 I will always be happy since i always like bigger teams versus smaller teams.

What I'm saying is the Cs just need a big who can make shots when they're open.
That's what Gallo was supposed to do for the Cs this season.
But since Gallo got hurt, Brad did a great job by getting Moose to take Gallo's spot.
I think Gallo was brought here not to just go to the corner and hit open shots. He is a very good low-post scorer and we miss that element in our offense, Al isn't good at it. The only guy who's ok at it is Smart, but ideally you have someone bigger doing it. Gallo was brought in to provide that, in addition to shooting.

While MM's bread and butter is his pick and Pop shooting etc.. I am hoping and believing he has more to his game than that. Putting the ball on the floor and either mid range and/or recreating well for other teammates.
Something Hauser has done a few times but not enough.

I feel like that was the plan. To have another double big option that can space the floor. Al was really the only way you could do double bigs before - unless you count Grant as "big". Kornet in theory can shoot, but doesn't. And nobody needs to guard him out there. Muscala you have to, so you can easily play him with Rob or Luke.

I like playing muscala with grant, horford or rob but I hope the musc/kornet combo was just mazzula trying it. Don’t see the need or point of that outside of injuries.

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

I think Muscala is mainly a pick n pop shooter, spot up shooter, roll man, and a guy who will get the ball and keep it moving quickly, can run some DHO.
I don't think driving it is in his arsenal - BUT he did have that 1 play (against memphis I think) that was pretty nice where he attacked a closeout, took 1 dribble and hit the pull-up mid range jumper. So he obviously has some off the dribble ability.

True.
Gallo is indeed a much better offensive player than Moose.
But at least the shooting part is up to par with Gallo.

I think tonight revealed at least what the coach needed to see in practice already comparing Musc and Kornet or what Stevens confirmed before he would do something like throw away 2 second rounders in a trade.
No Hoford or Tatum to compete at C or PF minutes, and a limited Timelord
Musc = 44 minutes
Kornet = 2 minutes, but I don't recall when they actually happened
Musc has completely replaced Kornets role and relegated to what coach and Stevens thinks he needs to be, a bench warmer who never sees the court outside of extreme injury.

Re: Welcome to Boston Mike Muscala!
Muscala It's good enough to slot whenever needed he is that good.. He easily fits alongside what the players have... And he will even get better as he becomes more comfortable...
I just don't want to see him launching quick 3 point shots.. If he takes just normal shots he will be outstanding.

He could be just what we needed for a backup big man.

Re: Welcome to Boston Mike Muscala!
Love the pickup. Believe he had 18 pts in the first half (could be wrong) and then went cold to finish the game and took a bad three late in OT but overall a good backup big.
Ideally never play 44 mins lol but he’ll be a consistent threat playing 10-15 mins a night from here on out

Small sample size, but while playing with us, he's averaging career numbers in minutes, FGA, points, and rebounds!

Hopefully JoMz has snapped back to his senses after breaking his new toy in only Musikal's 3rd game with the team after being ridden for a crazy 44 minutes, waaay beyond what he's accustomed to.

Bye, Mike!
We'll always have that overtime game where you shined (and played the most minutes of your life, and it showed).

Teammate of Gallo and Horford in OKC.
Thank you for your services, Moose. He hit some threes for us in the regular season. Hope it was a pleasant stay for him esp spending time with the Bus 1 Boys.

Seemed like a solid pro and teammate, I liked what he provided during his minutes on the floor. Good luck to him in the next chapter of his career.
