3rd runner up is Horford who has had too many games like this against the Warriors and other teams.

Bit harsh on Horford.

He’s in his late 30s and you can see on some nights he just can’t get going offensively.

He was a big factor in us getting to the finals in 2022, a big factor in us winning game 1 of that series and no matter what I’d argue he always gives his all defensively.

I’m just very glad we traded for Porzingis because relying on Al so heavily now would have been absurd.

Agreed.

Tatum continues to get worse as a three-point shooter.

But he has been very good (if not great) in clutch moments.

He was garbage in the 2022 finals and garbage for a fair bit of the 2023 playoff series against Philly.

If he played with more consistency and more of a killer mentality we’d have a title by now.

I don't know that's fair? Garbage is a big word that almost never describes Tatum. Especially in the clutch where the numbers reflect how good he's been.

But there is something to the idea his mentality is different than the greats - Steph, Larry, MJ, etc. He is not that guy. He's more like McHale, who could kill you, but didn't *need* to kill you.

Tatum averaged 21ppg on 36% shooting and 65% from the line in the 2022 finals. He was absolutely brutal.

Garbage may have been too strong of a word for the Philly series but the reality is he didn’t assert himself on the series properly until the fourth quarter of game 6.

If we are to ever win a title he has to dominate an entire playoffs.

Fell asleep over the 3rd quarter. I'mma quickly say I didn't like our late game execution. Tatum's not been himself for weeks now.

Never seen a possession sum up why this team goes to water offensively sometimes.

I mean yeah one or two of those shots were good looks but sometimes when you’re struggling you just to put the head down and attack the hoop hard.

Even when Brown finally did he went up soft and missed.

Far too entrenched in this mentality that every three they shoot is a good shot.

So Tatum is in a bit of a funk right now. Over his last seven games he has a TS% of 53.3%, which by the standards of a top 10 players is very bad. But he's had shooting slumps before and he'll snap out of it at some point.

Tonight I thought it was obvious the ankle was bothering him, but if that's the case JUST SIT OUT. If you hurt the ankle bad enough you need to go back to the locker room then take the rest of the game off, because he was killing them out there on both ends.

As for the rest of it....the Celtics shot 29.3% from three, and the warriors shot 40%. You won't win many games when that happens.

This is my axe to grind the rest of the year. Even open threes are not necessarily good. Especially for the Celtics, who are like 18th in the league in three point percentage. And falling.

Tatum is kind of fascinating. He is something close to a perfect player in many ways.

But he said, basically, "my ankle was messed up so I played poorly" and yet this game resembled so many of his bad games in the past where his ankle was fine.

The coach still sucks. Refuses to call a time out and get a set play going. After about 8 minutes he drew up a pretty good play for Horford in the corner but the reality is, they got lucky because he's exactly who the Warriors want taking the shot.

The Jays still turtle and **** their pants under pressure. They can't close out games and frankly have weak inside game.

They have no rebounding and the bench is ****.

Hauser is not a good player. The idea that he is and inability to accept that he isn't could cost them a title. You cant have him shooting 7 or 8 shots in a playoff game. That would be suicide.

End of the day

It's the same old same old for the Celtics. They are literally a choke DNA team.

This. It's obvious to a few here. But most are blind to that but more and more people are catching on. Brad knows this and that's why he added KP and Jrue. Jrue is having a down season so far.

Jrue and white together helps with the stability. Last year, especially against the heat with Smart and the Jays, it’s non stop turnovers and 3pt chucking. We are much better this year, especially with KP playing. Just sucks that when you thought JT was turning a corner, he goes back to being that ulitimate 3pt chuckster of recent years. Also, i think the warriors have this mental edge over us. We play scared missing layups against them. Other teams, especailly young teams aren’ scared of the warriors. Okc, sac won’t get punked by them. They just own us. Silver lining. I doubt the warriors will ever get to the finals again.

This happened in the game before ours. In the Grizzlies final possession Ja Morant attacks the basket and gets one to go IN THE PAINT at the buzzer to win the game.

Then there's Tatum. Is there ANYONE on this board who didn't know that he was going to dribble the ball down to 3 and then fire up a contested 3?
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Bro, that was the **** reason we lost to the heat game 7. Horford got the ball 3ft of the basket with no one to defend him, and yet he passed the ball fast to tatum in the corner leading to his injury. We always pass up a great efficient shot for someone that’s open beyond the arc. Good if they make it, but not really efficient and sustainable basketbal if you live and die by the 3.

Exactly. Everyone knew he was going to chuck it up. Also, the grizz coach called a timeout at exactly the same situatuon. Doesn’t matter if if was an iso by morant, at least they get to talk on what they would do. Set up screens to have morant attack. Joe will never learn. Plus morant was having a good 2nd half, and Tatum was awful. He shouldn’t even be the one taking the last shot

Even KOC reposted that stat about Tatum's god-awful shooting.

Starting to think (and hope) the media will put pressure on Tatum and Joe about this.

He chops the lines. And fills the gaps.

Can’t ask for much more from Joe, this is squarely on the players.

Ja is a competitor and a dog
JT is a finesse player who relies on jump shots

Just a mental difference - JT is talented as hell but he settles too much. No competitive fire and a will to be the best (like Bird, Kobe etc)

Also, this Jackson-Davis dude is good
Blocked JB and was a menace on the boards and on defense
I remember some people here wanted us to grab him late in the second round
Shame we didn't get him (as we had the picks)

Oh, well, Mazz would not have played him. Like Brisset who came up firing and Queta at the end. He really bothered the warriors today

Warriors just always come to play against us. That last Steph shot was such BS lol Klay made everything he threw up.

We can’t win on the road. .500 ball on the road now. Joe has to find a way to get these guys to play much better away from home.

Learning experience for both Jays.

Learning experience? Dudes are no longer 21. They have played this same exact game multiple times in higher stakes basketball like the ECF and the actual NBA finals. There is nothing they haven’t seen, there is nothing they can still really learn. At this point you either can get it done or you can’t. They crumble up pretty hard in these types of games and it’s concerning when the coach feels like they still have to figure it out on the fly. If Joe takes a timeout at the end and gives the ball to Jrue or White we probably win that game.

As good as this team is, they still show the same issues that had them falling short in the last 4 years. This season we have blown games watching Haliburton, Edwards and Curry go mental in the end while our stars did nothing. Lillard would have done the same if there was another 20 seconds in that game.
