znowman wrote:I don't get it... How can you have Cooper and Boston right there and go with this kid?

because begarin is better. Cooper is an undersized PG, can't play defense and can't shoot - that's why he slipped so far in the draft.

Boston is actually a very similar player to Begarin. But Begarin:

-has 1 yr under his belt playing vs grown men in a professional league and still put up better numbers, despite the fact that Begarin is a year younger:
-Begarin last yr had a TS% of 55%, compared to 44% for Boston
-Begarin is a slightly better defender
-Begarin had a slightly higher PER of 13.9, compared to 13.2 for Boston
-If you look at offensive rating minus defensive rating so really looking at the player's impact on his team's offense and defense performance on the court, Begarin was a +0.8, compared to Boston who was a -4.3 (the terrible TS% and terrible o-rating minus d-rating is clearly why he slipped in the draft)
-in terms of build/physique, Boston has a ways to go. he's 6'7", 188 lbs compared to Begarin who's 6'6", 214 lbs so clearly Begarin has a stronger build and despite the fact that he carries more bulk, Begarin is just as quick (and begarin has a 7'0" wingspan compared to 6'11" wingspan for boston)
-Begarin is a much better passer, as he had an 18% assist rate, compared to 11% for Boston. Boston is kind of a black hole who just looks to score. Begarin has more balance to his game with scoring and passing, plus Begarin is a better finisher at the rim

There's literally nothing Boston does better than Begarin.

Begarin has more of a toughness/edge to him, plays with more of a motor. The dude literally plays like his opponents just stole his lunch money. I've seen a bunch of plays where he hustles and comes out of nowhere to make a steal or get a loose ball, flying in like a bat outta hell. The combination of that hustle/effort with his athleticism/size/speed combined with his skill/all around game at such a young age is very appealing and why I had him ranked as the no. 15 player in this class.

I like Boston. He has good upside, I would have been cool with us taking him, if Begarin was off the board. But Begarin is a better prospect IMO, without question.

Like Perk even said on ESPN draft, you can get talent everywhere, but it's all about mindset.

well this is news to me.. all I have is film/video.

Baby Jaylen?

Exactly what I thought — slightly younger JB with a ponytail.

Would’ve loved a PF, but glad we swung for the fences a bit. Hope we get to see this kid in summer league!

Bring him over now. Summer League. Training camp. See what happens. We're getting drunk on athletic wings. Not a bad thing. Love the frame and conditioning. He and Nesmith are gonna go at it. A nice offset pairing these two. Wonder how much he played with or against the French national team? Wonder if Fournier talked him up?

Josh Primo went 12th to SA. Only player younger I think was Our Guy. Our guy has better upside at a much better salary/risk.

do like the pick. Hate not getting another pick though.. whatever.

Well, Reavesm Vrenz, Garza, Begarin, Sims and Henry were still there at 45. Glad we got one of the 1 of the remaing 7 playersd i wanted us to draft.

Happy with the pick. Stash him for a year or two. Brad wants for vets and more size. I don't blame him. He got more size by adding Horford and Moses Brown. He will add more vets. We need to start by resigning Fournier.

I agree. Primo and Begarin are similar but IMO Begarin is better, more explosive, more of a high flyer, better defender, more toughness, better motor, stronger build while being just as quick.

I'm sure Fournier knows about him. I saw an interview where Begarin's goal is to play for france in the next olympics after this one.

we clearly do some good scouting in europe tho..
