I would think a “true Celtic” is a player who embraced the city and tradition, and also had the city embrace them. A player who gave his all each and every night on the court and brought a certain level of success to the franchise. I take no pleasure saying this to you, but I do think IT is a true Celtic.. lol.
IT is a true homie, sure, one that no one will remember in 40 years when people still discuss Mugsy Bogues as the shortest NBA player ever, Spudd Webb's dunk contest still airs in All Star game compilations and JJ Barea's finals/playoffs games are rerun regularly.
It's not really that debatable. A true Celtic has to at least be remembered by fans down the line. Whenever older people discuss lesser known players (on here or otherwise), they are still almost entirely guys who helped win at least one championship in some capacity. That said, I will admit that you could still make an argument for your point if he stayed here for a few years longer than he did. But he didn't.
What do "city" and "tradition" even mean anymore? All the championship eras after the first are incredibly different with very different personalities and guiding principles.
True Celtics players are winners who **** ball out and win it all. Not players who probably don't even show up on a Google search for "best short NBA players".
I get your point, I feel we just differ in terminology. I feel you're describing what it means to be a legendary player within a franchise. I don't know if Ray Allen is a true Celtic. Or Kevin Love is a true Cavalier (if that's even a thing, lol). And if the Celtics lost that 2008 finals to LA, I don't think that prevents Pierce from being a "True Celtic". I think that title put him into the convo of franchise legends.
But this is neither here nor there...

Nobody wants your private area dear.
BTW why do garbage posts like this get allowed on this forum? Brings nothing to the table with discussion or news at all.

He was very direct in his intentions and he's never said anything along the lines of taking that back, or stating he is now doing the opposite, so it's sad the media twist his comments and speculate to the point it's upset his fan base. When he re-signs, there will be a lot of Celtic fans with egg on their face for not believing him and buying into the media hype. I'll go by what Kyrie said here and if he changes his mind, so be it, but I don't know how you can take the other side and think he's leaving when he's never said that.

Yeah but the thing is he gave a very clear and public 'commitment' to re-signing before the season began at the Garden in front of the fans and then not only back-tracked by then saying 'ask me in July' but didn't do himself any favors with what looked like talking about two max spots (i.e. NYC) with KD. That's not the media speculating and creating a story out of nothing, it's his own doing (at least in respect of the July comment).
He shouldn't have given that initial commitment, it was naive and he shot himself in the foot a bit. He seems to consider himself as some sort of intellectual but after this season I get the impression he is lacking in common sense and/or maturity, and it's almost as if he is rather sensitive - whinging about being asked questions by the media when you earn millions and apparently crave being in the spotlight by releasing your own film - it's quite frankly, absurd.
It goes without saying that it's 100% his decision whether he re-signs or not, he doesn't 'owe' us anything in the same way that we as fans do not 'owe' him anything and can justifiably be critical of his performance or decisions.
After trading for him and the moments of brilliance he showed last season I was so excited to get behind him this year and see what he could achieve when healthy. The team's record isn't all on him but he's supposedly our best player and wanted to lead his own team to success but this season (so far) has been far from that - he has to take a sizable share of the blame but more often than not he's either criticized his own team mates or had a strop.
I understand that some people on here feel others may be harsh on him and have an agenda against him, but I find it really hard for anyone who genuinely supports the Celtics to be as wholeheartedly positive about him given what's happened this season. I've always respected supporters who do just that - support the team and players through thick and thin but you can't unconditionally support someone when they aren't pulling their weight or acting properly for the benefit of the team (on and off the court).
If he resigned I would definitely not feel like I had 'egg on my face', I honestly think I would be almost ambivalent and I'd wonder who else we would need to realistically win #18 as I just don't think he's anywhere close enough to get there without a better option i.e. AD.
If he does leave I would not be the least bit surprised and although you never want to lose any valuable player in free agency, I wouldn't be too gutted. He just hasn't delivered yet and his behavior/comments off the court have not only been bizarre but quite evidently harmful to the team's chemistry.Spoiler:

The two max slots stuff was 100% media speculation. You and the media also never print the initial comment he made right before he said to ask him July 1st. The NY media is the one who ran the most with both stories, so it makes sense they would leave out anything that pointed to his original comment about re-signing as truth. He said something to the effect of "as if what I already said wasn't enough". That indicates he was clearly perturbed by being asked about something he already gave an answer on. Even Tommy said he should have told the media all made up lies at that point just to mess with them.

You almost come across like you’re describing me as some sort of conspirator lol. I’m just a guy that wants the Celtics win above all else. Kyrie has whinged, said stupid things, ‘lead’ this team to a 5th seed, thrown the young guys under the bus and in my opinion quite purposely gone back on his word to keep his options open. I hope he does flip the switch and resign, I really do. I don’t have an agenda against him whereas some people here seem to have a strange worship complex for him. It ain’t just about the handles bruv!
