Summer League 2024, Multi-Game Thread – Celtics finish 2-3, in Vegas

I like the squad, but I don't think it's as stacked as a lot of you. There's barely any NBA minutes on it outside of Queta & Springer. Then add one 30th pick and a bunch of 2nd rounders, UDFAs. Lots of potential fits with the big squad and some older guys with some college/g-league experience. I'm excited to see them play, but I'm not quite seeing the juggernaut here.

Queta, Walsh, JD, and Peterson all made the G-League finals.

The G-League is tougher than summer league.

Yeah, there's definitely not "star power" on the roster as in your normal lotto pick pending superstardom, but there's a lot of depth imo. Those star power guys are often just looking to show they earned their high draft status as they don't have to worry about fighting for the basketball lives and their teams flame out in the Summer League anyways. There's also guys who have played really well at this level (or slightly higher with the G-league) in JD and Queta especially and Walsh and Peterson have had big games too. The rest is several guys who are older, more polished players, who can often step in for Summer League and can contribute in multiple ways.

If/when our G-League "stars" step aside to let the others play a couple games in it could get ugly though lol.

I just feel it's a little bit of over-rating our own guys - which I'm all for! But, other teams have guys with experience, too. Plus top picks from this year and last - heck, Brandon Miller is playing for CHA. It's not a cakewalk to the title with this group is all I'm saying.

Brandon Miller will probably only play 1 game..I'd be shocked if he plays more than 2..

French media reporting Killian Tillie will join the Celtics summer league squad. Hasn't played in forever because he is always hurt but if he is 100% you are not going to find a more skilled 5/4 to fill back up duties on a summer league team. He was a teammate of Anton Watson at Gonzaga for a couple years too. Brad Stevens doesn't miss.

Never heard of him but this is one reason why I like RealGM..that you can read that much detail about guys who are this obscure..

Davidson and Springer are the second and third youngest players on the team with only Jordan Walsh being younger. Crazy. I remember Ramseys name being tossed around here on draft night a few year ago

There was also some rumors (i believe 2 yrs ago heading into training camp) that the team had interest in signing Ramsey to compete in training camp - either for a roster spot or a 2-way..

A very fringe NBA guy at this point but has some talent..

I had a little bit of the same (assuming this SL team would kill it then mentally flip flopping a bit), and I think it was mainly driven by the roster's G-league performance. I had it in my head that Queta was dominant in the G-league, which I think he was to an extent but not nearly as much as I was thinking when I looked back at it.

So they should be solid, and the experience of playing in a system together prior should be a help. Definitely feeling both sides of the argument on this one and I think your caution has some warrant to it.

Queta for reference was All G-league first team in 2023 and All G-league defense in 2023, and was 14/9/3/1/2 .697TS% for Maine last year in 8 games. Which is good but my memory might have been a bit more there than actually happened.

I don’t need to say how I feel about our Celtics, I have and will;

I just want to say, while I hated the process to get him in, I want Bronny to be a good player! I hope the lakers are trash but that he be an excellent NBA player! It’s not his fault who his dad is, but he better do everything he can to maximize this opportunity, he must work his but off, even if he ends up not being good enough he better put in that effort!
