Except that's not how it works, the Chris Paul trade was vetoed because at the time, the Hornets were collectively owned by all the other owners.

Except that is how it works. The league can stop trades from happening with or without ownership of a team. There was a bunch of talk over whether they would block a Kevin Love trade to the Cavs. The whole **** over the Paul thing was a question of a conflict of interest.

And the league doesn't really care about tampering in regards to early discussions with players who are about to become FAs right before the deadline, but they definitely do in regards to teams meeting in person with someone under contract with another team. Which is why this whole notion of them going to meet him is ridiculous lol. When have we ever heard of a team doing that?

The league cannot veto any trade executed with the parameters of the CBA - 100% false claim by you.

If they are in LA, I would assume it is something related to Griffin or Westbrook, but it could be something entirely different.

It is more likely than not the team has gotten permission to talk to both Westbrook and Griffin regarding the respective contract related issues they have with each, (ie the purpose of Steve B's past two articles - drawing lines in the sand in public).

If so, both parties have at least agreed to a deal in principle, thus putting it on the players to sign off on the contract requirements.

By negotiating with both parties independently and then spinning the publicity into an either or scenario, they've been able to cause enough confusion to muddle things enough to keep things stable.

Now, they are most likely going to meet with both and essentially pitch them on joining forces on an Eastern power that can contend with the Warriors.

The gambit is that the likelihood of each agreeing to favorable contract terms - option for Griffin only costs 800K after kicker, Westbrook takes a haircut on a 1 year extension with more upfront this year. The chances of this increase when you are pitching them collectively.

Ainge sells the vision, Stevens sells the tactics, Zarren sells the financials - if they buy in both trades will happen almost simultaneously.

**** brilliant...

Nope. There hasn't been anything legitimate since the Horford signing. These threads have all basically been spam, unsubstantiated rumors from random people on twitter, and off-topic discussions.

Uh Huh,
but how exactly do the Celtics trade for both Griffin and Westbrook at the same time?
There simply isn't enough talent on the team to acquire both at the same time,
it's fantasy stuff, not happening.

Quick question: Who is Zarren? Is he the Assistant GM or something?

As always, thanks for sharing what you hear.

15%

The likelihood of having enough space after the deals, if they got both guys, to extend both now (ala HOU and Harden) is pretty small. They won't really have the money to pull that off. Especially with Westbrook who is pretty far off his max amount.
