Memphis 3 game lead from the 6th pick and rolling it over to next year and 0.5 games out from making the playoffs.

Also like the Kings they could also just super regress next year.

That's the thing about young players that no one likes to acknowledge. Young players can stand still and regress year to year. They don't only "get better".

Curious to see what they do at the deadline, Morant will no doubt hit the rookie wall.

Will they sell off the vets?

Grizz are like the kings last year. 14th worst record, but 7th worst in Net rating. Meaning they are generally winning close games they really shouldn't or losing by a bunch.

Net rating is usually the equalizer by the end of the year. Teams usually regress to the net rating mean in the end. We'll see if the grizz keep playing above the mean or not this year.

Lately. The only team to not let us down with Net rating regression to the mean was the Nets. They sucked, won some to start the year they shouldn't, and ended up 3rd worst and worst in back to back years for us. God bless all of the Nets organization.

This is true, I think the Sac pick is the biggest let down, if Grizz finished at 10th pick I wouldn't be mad at all because I didn't initially expect a lotto pick from them when we traded Jeff Green

The Kings didn’t really regress - Fox and Bagley have missed a lot of games. And they did stop playing at such a fast pace, which was probably a gimmicky way to overachieve a la Pitino.

We’re in good shape and I wouldn’t want AD and Kyrie here, ultimately - but the 2019 draft lottery had us one ping pong ball away from that Kings pick coming up number 4 - the Lakers beat us to it with a lucky bounce. *And* Memphis jumped up to the 2 and nabbed Morant - if they’d stayed at 8 instead and we’d drafted at 4...

I wonder if the Grizzlies would be open to renegotiating the protections on their pick if it helps them make long-term moves at the deadline..

Like, it becomes top 4 protected, if it lands 5-6 they get the MIL pick and we get their lotto pick..

Tankathon

* The 1st overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls

* The 2nd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls

* The 3rd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls

* The 4th overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls

* Remaining lottery teams, sorted by record, fill out picks 5-14

I mean “lands” as in “ends up at”, should have been precise. Like, Memphis trades Valanciunas for picks, loses more, ends up with the fourth worst record, gets jumped in the lotto and picks fifth.. they convey the pick to us and get the MIL 1st - since we’re relinquishing the unprotected pick chance next year, and they’re giving up the high lotto pick now.

Jonas Valanciunas...$16,000,000.....$15,000,000.....$14,000,000

I will have to think about which teams would be willing to send decent - good draft picks for that contract.

At the moment, the Memphis youngsters are learning to be a decent team. Memphis would need to be getting an extremely good return in a trade to justify creating a negative environment for the youngsters and torpedo this season. I know that you are using the Milwaukee first as an additional bonus/sweetener, but that appears destined to be at the end of the first round in a draft that some consider to be uninspiring.

Chris Wallace is no longer in charge, so it will probably be more difficult to get the Grizzlies to do foolish things such as torpedo this season for a Milwaukee first.

Anyone want to predict the date when Danny leaks that we don't want three first round picks and then gives away 1 or 2 in a stupid trade as good players are selected in our range? AKA the Malcolm Brogdon/Brandon Clarke Pass.

It’s a long shot, but Memphis has signaled more than once they want to convey the pick sooner than later.

Given the dumpster fire of this last draft. I'm all for Ainge trading these picks.

Memphis in 2019, without any shot of making the playoffs, played to win each and every game. They will continue in that mode this year, but be even more motivated, given their outside shot at the playoffs.

I expect they'll end up at around the 9-12 seed in the draft, with a slight margin of going lower or higher.
