With KD probably going NY and Kawhi looking like he may well stay in Toronto, a trade for AD has become an absolute must.
The treadmill awaits otherwise.

Maybe, maybe not. If you're staying in Toronto long term why buy a $13.3 million mansion in San Diego? Because you love paying crazy high taxes?

There's very few stars who dont have a home in Cali. Even Kyrie has a home there, and nobody thinks he's going there.
Not to say Kawhi still doesnt end up there. It's still probably very much in the cards...i just wouldnt read too much into him buying a home there

A $13.3M home they bought a few months before they became FAs? Not saying it's a done deal either, just that it's not a fait accompli -- as I wrote above "maybe, maybe not".

Well because from mid of May/June until November kawhi can live there on his ranch. Thats 5 best weather months in CA.
Plus, playing only 60games a season, he will have depending on Raptors schedule a 4-5pff days here and there during the season, he can go there as well. For example in December or February.
So, this news might or might not be relevant.
Only Kawhi knows.
But Toronto chances to resign him are way higher now than last October, thats for sure.

If I was his accountant I'd tell him to rent and live there 6 months minus 1 day of each year to avoid CA taxes. Unless of course that was going to be his primary residence etc. etc. in which case, **** it.

And yet many NBA stars, who play around the country, have homes they own in Cali. Harden/Paul/WB/Kyrie..etc
It's a hotbed for NBA stars in the summer. They all stay there
And guys who are about to get quarter billion contracts+endorsements dont usually rent homes.

He is also from SoCal.LA native who went to school at SDSU.
Oh, and San Diego is the best place in the country.

Agreed on San Diego. I wasn't talking about real estate taxes (although I bet he's still paying a pretty penny on that house) -- just state income taxes. If you establish residency in CA then you have to pay CA state taxes which are quite high.

I guess if you have enough homes and spend enough time out of state you can establish residency outside of CA (and avoid CA state income tax) while still owning an expensive home there. #richpeoplewinning

True, and salary is just one aspect of these people's income.
FWIW, CA the best place to live in the US. We should probably start right there. For many/most people/brackets, the higher income tax is also largely offset by higher salaries and lower property taxes. This wiki image a little flawed, but also useful to illustrate:

Well, I'm a Boston native who has lived all over the continent, and this conversation started with a tax argument that is commonly used to be dismissive of CA, but which is often misleading, or spotty at best.
I mean, shoot. You know who else has a $13m home in California? Nearly everyone who can afford one. Rancho Santa Fe, or Rhode Island? Lemme think about that one for a minute lol.

My comment wasn’t specific to you or the convo about Kawhi. Just something I noticed. Cali is a cool place no doubt. You here anything repeated over and over and it gets tiring.

Lakers **** show continues.
They might as well just skip a coach and GM and let LeBron do everything out in the open, since he's gonna do it behind the scenes anyway.

I think LA needs a big brawny coach... someone who at least looks like he's in charge, and wh appears to be standing up to Lebron. Lue was too boyish a figure for that Cleveland team--he looked too much like an interim coach.
