Don't think we're losing much leverage by waiting after skimming the fa pool left.

What players are out there for the MLE? What is out there for the bi-annual exception? Are there trades we can make for veterans on other teams right now?

If Hayward does sign with NY, then those are the alternative moves to the IND deal not being done. So it's a comparison of whatever IND is willing to send back and whatever players we get with that combination of moves.

Jesus. Did he rob you?

No I just have eyes and can notice the obvious.

Nah, I seriously doubt you watched him more than a handful of games in RS. You're just buying into stupid Lakers fans who hated on him for anything he did.

He was a 33yr old backup PG, on a vet min contract, coasting through regular season. He still had a decent year. 7/5/3/1 in 20 minutes (12.5/9/5/1.5 per 36), net positive while on the floor. And we know what he did in the playoffs.

And no, I'm not saying this as a Rondo stan or whatever, multiple respected reporters around the league (Lowe, Arnovitz, Herring) have said he had a good season as a backup.

If it was a younger, less polarizing guy who had a run like he did in the playoffs he'd be getting 15m per year easily. He was at worst the 4th best player on a championship team ffs.

I'm not saying Rondo should be getting that, but if you can get him for 5-7m per year on a contending team that's incredible value.

Now I'm definitely nervous on Hayward and that Danny might overplay his hand and lose him for nothing. Just please get it done. Please

Rumor is NY offering more money less years.

Tibs likes Hayward and has coached in in Olympic ball.

New York is not terrible for Hayward for his "brand" especially as he augments his NBA career with his esports stuff.

Danny waits too long I bet Hayward goes to NY on a 3/90 deal versus 4/100 Pacers.

We will see, but Danny thinks he is a great negotiator, most of the league thinks he is a d&ck

From what has been reported NY is nowhere near that price they are like 3/60 and willing to go 3/70 they do not have 30 mil in cap space anymore I don't believe.

It has also been reported that Boston is willing to give Hayward the 4/100 to stay in Boston as well as send him to IND in a sign and trade so there is no real risk in this for Hayward he might just have to buy an airplane. Great take on this by hugepatsfan below

hugepatsfan wrote:My guess is this... The reported IND offer is actually Turner/McDemrott and Leaf. No one cares about Leaf because he sucks, but he's actually very important in real terms because of this:

Turner/McDermott/Leaf for Hayward is going to save IND from the tax but put Boston in the luxury tax after the deal. With Tatum's extension looming and Turner being a long term deal, this will trigger not only huge tax charge in '21-22, but a huge REPEATER rate tax charge in '22-23.

Turner/McDermott with no Leaf means Boston stays below the tax, but now IND is in it. They presumably want to keep Dipo at a big deal which would push them into the tax next year. For a team that historically doesn't pay tax at all, I'm sure they would want to push going into the tax off a year

I'm sure Ainge is saying that he'd take back enough salary to go into the tax for good players, but he's not taking an overpaid McDermott and useless Leaf to do so. So he's saying he'd give up Hayward+ to get back Dipo or Warren as the second contract. IND is saying they don't want to move 2 starters for Hayward.

My guess is the compromise is a 3rd and maybe even 4th team where some of that salary goes. Leaf gets dumped into cap space or a trade exception for some 2nds that either BOS or Indy pay. BOS either reluctantly accepts McDermott over what figures to be a more fruitful MLE signing, or they salary dump him somewhere too (or he goes somewhere for a player under contract or S&T that BOS like better for similar money).

With coronavirus I still can't see Gordon signing with New York, but I think your overall point is correct.

Even without corona, I think he'd hate it there.

Then they need to trade for Harden and Westbrook. Get the band back together.

Former Celtics players Evan Turner, Jae Crowder, Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Aron Baynes, E'Twaun Moore, Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, and Austin Rivers are still available. (JK I don't know what No-pass Bass has been up to.)

If Danny overplays his hand he deserves all the criticism coming his way.

LOL, every time we lose a free agent for nothing (e.g. Kyrie Irving, Al Horford) the team gets better. Saving that $34M opens up many possibilities, not just this year but in future years.

Things are never as good as they seem, or as bad as they seem.

I'm glad we aren't in the position of having to pay over $20M per year to Fred Van Vleet.

I don't get all the Rondo hate. He was amazing when he was here. He didn't force his way out, we wanted to rebuild and traded him. People have said hes not good anymore for years but he just won a title and was probably the 3rd best player on the team in the finals. I've never understood the hate.

He was a total a-hole on the way out here and was a total a-hole in Dallas when he got there. Good player and interesting dude, he seems to developed into a guy who really likes working with young players and will probably make a good College coach when he retires. But he is only really willing to play his way. He has gotten a little better with taking wide open 3's and makes them at an acceptable clip but the defensive ability is gone.

I don't think the guy has played for the same coach two years in a row since Doc Rivers left Boston.

Was he though? I remember things blowing up in Dallas, but I remember him saying positive things about the team and Brad after we traded him. Am I remembering this wrong? Can you link me to something. Maybe I am wrong on this, but it's not how I remember it.

Rondo skipped several games to party in LA. He loafed on defense and clashed with Stevens. That ship has sailed.

Getting Turner would be nice. But I don’t want this board to go overboard if or when it happens. Turner is good but not great. It’s not like we would be getting AD or Bam.

I feel people would end up putting too much pressure on him if he plays for Boston and you guys might end up with high expectations and start disliking the guy.

He would be a good fit here and an upgrade. But we aren’t talking about a potential all-star here. If he gets to that level, that would be an added bonus.

Yeah I thin he's pretty over rated.

He'll be around for awhile though and the Raps aren't likely to get anyone else through free agency so they might as well keep him.

At 26 it's not the worst but I don't think FVV is much more than a decent starter. 20 is probably the max I'd want to pay him, same as Hayward who's way better but again might not be good as soon as a month from now with the way his body is holding together.

We are a contender. I believe what you meant is that he may be trying to join a superfriend kind of team.
