Seems like they became available today everywhere. On nbastore.eu, there's Tatum, Brown, Smart, Horford and Pritchard versions now available. The EU version of the NBA store stocks less articles than the US version and I always get a kick out of seeing who is the random player's jersey that they'll sell this year. For years they were pushing Ojeleye jerseys while not stocking any Smart jerseys :nonono:

Smart has always been a good passer. I think what's made this little surge in his assists possible is the increased OFFBALL MOVEMENT by the team and more notably the Jays. There's just much less standing around compared to years past. Jays have learned how to get themselves free from their defenders to cut or relocate. There's just more space and movement that passing lanes are opening up for anyone willing and able to share the ball.

Watching the Jays grow in this regard makes me want to tear up.

Side-note: Smart seems like a better passer to offball cutters while Brogdon is the opposite as he's more of a driver and is able to kick out to standstill shooters. Smart is also quick at swinging the ball around the perimeter to a more open teammate.

Great run of games sense Joe benched him in the 4th Q. Seems to have gotten him out of his early season doldrums. Or just coincidence, who knows. But he’s been pretty damn spectacular in his role since.

Edit, nvm. That’s what that article says too, lol.

Apparently the only 3 PGs with assists as high as Smart's and TOs as low as his are Smart, Conley, and CP3.

I think he won DPOY due to campaigning for it last season and while he was one of the best it was actually a down year for him and his flopping was rewarded resulting in the impression that he deserved it. I think his defense overall this season is better and there’s been much less flopping

Marcus Smart on Friday missed his second consecutive game due to right ankle soreness. Smart said he is still dealing with swelling related to the injury he suffered during the conference finals against the Miami Heat last season.

“I think it’s just the consistent trauma that I play with, the force that is constantly taken on a nightly basis,” Smart said. “It was a very significant injury last year that I didn’t really have time to rest because of the situation we were in. So I’m constantly playing on it, constantly taking a beating on it, and it really never had time to heal. Scar tissue buildup is going to affect it and just have to continue to do what we’ve been doing.”

Is Smart injured?

In the month of November, if we ignore the game against the Pistons on the 12th, he has 5 steals versus 33 fouls. If we count the Pistons, 10 steals vs 34 fouls. On/off court data says he is hurting us defensively.

For his career, he averages 1.9 steals vs 3.1 fouls per 36.

The answer to that is yes. His ankle injury from the ECF series hasn't fully healed and swells up every now and again.

Whether that's affecting the way he plays his defense, not sure. The entire team has been poor at forcing turnovers (now 29th after forcing a ton vs the Kings). Maybe a scheme/point of emphasis that they stay solid instead of taking risks esp since Rob's not there to clean up mistakes and cover for them.

Isn't guard the obvious position where we can sit him and give him some rest? Maybe have him sit the first night of back to backs or just generally look for soft spots in the schedule when an off day would give 4 or 5 days of rest? Brogdon, White, and Pritchard can more than admirably hold down the fort.

Starting PG of a Finals team who's now winning 80% of their games. Not bad.

After a slow start (injuries were the main cause in my opinion) Marcus Smart is having a heck of a year.

So glad I’m one of the few who always believed in him as a championship level PG.

Remember people complaining about his extension? Lmao.

Remember people saying he should come off the bench as of a few weeks ago? Lmao

The clamoring for Tyus Jones has died.

Oh, and he's still and always was a better basketball player than Terry Rozier hehe.

I must confess I've had my moments with his shooting, but to my credit have said over the years that Smart's destiny is to be 21st century DJ.

But these assists! Can Marcus make "assist-and-D" a thing? (like 3-and-D, but awesome-er?) Has anyone been that before? (maybe Rondo, but totally different playstyle)

I remember when Smart was a rookie in summer league and I wondered how he could be an elite point guard when he couldn’t beat anybody off dribble, couldn’t finish at rim even when he did and couldn’t shoot. I did see championship qualities along with others but saw him only becoming complimentary Derek Fisher type who made lots of winning plays that don’t show up in box scores. Well, he has improved greatly as a 3 point shooter and rarely attempts mid range shots coaches don’t want. He has slowed down his drives such that they have become a mixture of crafty left handed layups and low post moves and now is a pretty good finisher. Mostly, he has become a leader on the court and in the locker room and is as responsible as anybody for Celtics culture. He has become much more than a Derek Fisher type …. but he could use a ring or two to prove it.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
