WE WILL FORGET AL HORFORD BILL RUSSELL WAS EVER A CELTIC!

He is a good pick up. He is a taller, more athletic Baynes. Better rebounder too.

Yea, he will definitely be a better finisher around the rim than Baynes was. At times Baynes was really bad missing dunks, etc. The only thing he can't do like Baynes is shoot the 3, at least as of right now.

Baynes could move laterally for his size. Wasn't stuck under the basket. Poirier needs to show he can do that still or all 7 feet of him will be a defensive liability fast. He does look like a good rebounder though.

Tacko is better than that.

Joakim Noah or Amir Johnson are available...

Yeah. Poirier looks a tad more athletic vertically but laterally is where these guys are made or broken in the NBA

Early verdict is no. The NBA game is just too fast for him. No harm in trying to find a diamond in the rough like Theis but this guy ain’t it

Dammit. I was hoping at least one of those shots near the basket went in.

If he is to get regular rotation minutes, they will have to build a defensive scheme that keeps him inside. He's atrocious at guarding the perimeter.

starting to sink in that the reason the French national team didn't play Poirier very much

..might not have been to keep other national teams from asking for him in trades.

I want to like this guy. I keep saying just give him time to adjust, let him learn to play NBA style ball - but I'm just not seeing it. If he did a few things really well, it would be easier to have patience, but so far he's not really doing anything that well. He's missing way too many easy shots. He's committing way too many dumb fouls. He's not able to cover too many different situations. At best he's a big body to throw out there if you want some quick fouls.
Unless he makes some kind of massive improvement in his game in the next couple of weeks, I'd say that it's time to call the experiment a bust.

And to think I was calling him French Steven Adams when we signed him. Not even French Vitor Faverani at the moment.

More like French Daniel Theis from the looks of his highlight video... and minus the jumper

People didn't like my take from Page 1 of this thread, and in retrospect it seems incredibly generous.

This guy is terrible. He’s almost as bad as Kyrie.

The difference is that if he goes on some kind of nut-job rant at least we won't understand it (unless you speak French).

Poirier led the entire EuroLeague in rebounding last year, so there are definitely some skills he brings to the table. He' supposed to be great at catching lobs and defending around the basket as well.

However, he definitely looked awful last night. Don't know it was just rust or if he always looks like that.

It’s crazy it took people so long to realize how bad this guy is. I have to hold my breath just for him to get to the other end of the floor without tripping over his feet. His mental lapses are worse than both rookie year Jaylen and Rob Williams. We haven’t even seen teams try to take advantage of him yet. He has the makings of a foul machine. Has not showed any understanding for defensive/rebounding positioning. Someone else deserves his roster spot.

I'll admit I was very high on Poirier, even to the point of thinking he was starting quality. I missed it by a bit. However, He has only been playing bb for 5 years I think it is, so things could be worse than having a 7'0, 26 yr old project big man on a cheap contract.

With that being said, by the trade deadline, if he hasn't shown improvement, I put him in the same group with Semi and Wannamaker as trade prospects. Maybe he needs a stint in Maine once Kanter is healthy.

What is a Poirier and why did we give him $5M for 2 years?

Not going to lie, I honestly forgot he was on the team until I saw him standing near Kemba when he was down.

Why did he look super athletic in his highlight videos? When I see him play for the Celtics - the few minutes he played so far - he looks like he can't even get off the ground. Almost as bad as Kanter. Then again highlight videos made Zizic look like a decent athlete.

We really couldn't find someone serviceable on the floor? And which team would want to pay his guaranteed 2nd year?
