What is the point of being vaccinated? Now I am (my wife's preg) but a lot of our friends are apparently anti vax for some reason.

They tell me what's the point when they're young & healthy. There's like a 1% chance they die if they get it. & If I can catch & spread covid still while being vaxxed, why do they need to get it?

& I don't have a good refute cause that all makes sense to me. Thoughts?!

Even though the FDA is not 100% funded through taxes, that doesn't automatically delegitimize the organization. The FDA most likely has major flaws. However, I'm not sure what that has to do with COVID asides from trying to discredit vaccines. The world is in an emergency situation. Yes the producers of vaccines want money, but those vaccines make an positive impact. The vaccines are free to the people. That's a terrible way to exploit for gain.

I have dozens of friends who are vaccinated and not one has been sick. My niece, who is a doc and who works an ER rotation. doesn't know any unvaccinated person who got sick enough with covid to require hospitalization.

As I've said before, the issue isn't the goodness or badness of big pharma. The issue is whether the covid vaccine is effective, and it is.

After October 1, most insurance carriers say they will no longer cover expensive covid treatments, e.g. monoclonal antibodies, if the insured is unvaccinated. Let's see how that all shakes out.

Experiencing symptomatic covid is not pleasant. You can be lucky and be asymptomatic, but there are no guarantees. People who've been infected without a vaccine have noted that it's one of the worst sick experiences they've had. Covid can also produce long term symptoms. Some experience extremely shortened lung capacity and/or brain fog weeks to months after recovery. The minimum vaccines do is reduce these symptoms to much more manageable levels. There are some who claim their long term symptoms go away after being vaccinated.

Vaccination induces a body response. It's literally a messenger and not some kind of body modifer that intends to change the body's level of hormones or anything like that. There's possibilities of unintended side affects. There was a scare of allergic reactions, but other than that, no other major ones happening frequently.

Vaccination is a quality of life booster (no pun intended). While the current ones don't make you immune to all covid strains, it reduces transmission and severity. Slowing down this virus is essential. Evolution takes an obscene count of iterations to occur and giving the virus less opportunities to reproduce does drastically delay those points of evolution. It's an ongoing race for survival and the virus has no empathy for those it leaves in its wake. If unchecked, it could one day defeat humans.

Your last 2 paragraphs bespeak once again your massive stupidity & willful ignorance. The examples you gave at the end are completely meaningless. Peer reviewed studies of tens of thousands of people are how meaningful clinical research is conducted. And I have cited almost 30-40 of them in these threads. You either do not read them or are too **** stupid to understand them. I (and many others) have politely tried to explain Covid science to you, but you just don’t get it. The unvaccinated & the unmasked morons constitute the vast majority of the people flooding ICUs (denying care to others), & transmitting Covid. And the massive transmission of Covid amongst the unvaccinated dip **** most likely will result in new mutations & variants even worse than Delta. Vaccinated may get it - but typically much milder cases in most. The few vaccinated who become severely ill are the elderly & the at risk cohorts. Vaccinated may transmit - but vastly less than the unvaccinated transmit.

A) if you could take something that would reduce a 1 out of 100% chance of death to substantially less than that, why the **** wouldnt you? Seems like an easy win — a 1 out of 100 chance is way too high a risk for me to take as a parent to young kids.

B) you said your getting the vax because your wife is pregnant, therefore you yourself acknowledge that people’s risk patterns are asymmetrical and that its your responsibility to do what you can to help your loved ones. The extension of that is that its the job of society to do what it can to protect everyones loved ones.

C) research the measles outbreak several years back in NY. Long story short, the viral load is higher in unvaccinated people and some children got infected and died despite being vaccinated themselves because their vaccinations were overwhelmed by the high load. The same facts apply here.
