The other guy said "this guy is going to cost us game 4". His post aged horribly. White did not cost us game 4 - he played great and we won in a blowout, in a huge game with our backs against the wall and with no Smart.

That's it. Leave it at that. The posts you're replying to have nothing to with the trade..

Oh and he shot 28.6% from the field, not 20%. Might want to get your facts straight if you're gonna bash players. Not a great shooting performance but not too bad either when you consider he took 14 shots, which is a much heavier workload than he usually takes on.
Look most of us desperately want White to succeed. But he needs to be a better shooter, end of story. If they kept Richardson, I can't believe they couldn't have found a Jevon Carter type on the cheap, to hustle, play good defense and hit an occasional jumper. He hit his first three shots. Great! Go 3-11 the rest of the way and we're good with 6 for 14. You could even see him being a little aggressive with some shots while they were up big to try to get going. He couldn't hit. Celtics won Game 2 rather easily without him. I'm not in the camp that White is irreplaceable. He has to score reliably

If you look at the 2.5 seasons prior to the trade (so a much more statistically significant sample size of data rather than just looking at the time period since the trade)

Richardson 35% from 3
White 34% from 3

If we look at TS%, which is typically seen as a more accurate stat for shooting efficiency, these are their career marks:

Richardson = 54.0% regular season, 50.4% playoffs
White = 56.3% regular season, 52.5% playoffs

People keep acting like white is this terrible shooter and richardson is so much better as a shooter - it's just not true.

Oh and a "Jevon Carter type"? He got booted from milwaukee's rotation once george hill was healthy - and george hill was really bad. So I'm not sure how a Jevon Carter type would have helped this celtics team win more games.
Actually I was happy they switched to Hill who did nothing. Don't focus on Carter -maybe someone else. Rather than lisr every point guard and have it automatically shot down can we agree that he needs to get close to how he shot in San Antonio? Everyone's +/- was just fine in the game he missed. I want him to do well too so we can stop talking about it.

Dear Derrick...
Keep moving, keep hustling, and keep winning.
All will be forgiven then.

And congrats on the birth of your son.

With Smart out game 4 and limited in game 5, White stepping up couldn't have come at a better time.

I won't mind if he is this postseason's FVV 2019.

He needs to shoot better next year, but he is better than Richardson and Romeo. Who cares about the 28th pick?

And pick swap. We will be better than spurs when it happens. So that is a non starter.

Terrific trade .

He will be huge next series guarding Klay and Steph. Smart can’t do it alone.

That play reminded me of the old John Wooden quote: "never mistake activity for achievement". Most players would try to show off some fake hustle trying to save the ball and giving it away to the other team under the basket for an easy layup (activity). Instead White just made the right read which is eating the turnover and giving the Celtics defense a chance to set itself (achievement). Winning play. Winning player. Don't care about his temporary shooting slump, he can play on my team any day.

Derrick White isn't a perfect player, just like any other players. His 3pt shooting isn't there, but an aggressive Derrick White is a huge contributor. Always making the right plays, plays good defense, and overall a smart player. Need someone like that to set the tone on the court. It's just good to have someone who can plug in for Smart whenever needed.

Haha wow. Went down a little rabbit hole watching those at lunch. "Small ball failure" featuring a Pritchard, Schroeder, Brown, Langford, Grant Williams lineup, or something like that.

I swear to God they don't try to win at the beginning of the season on purpose.

gonna tell my grandkids that Derrick White's 7-0 start to game 4 against Miami was PJ Brown.
or Dave Roberts stealing 2nd.
he's better than those guys, but whatever -- you need players like this to step up to even come close to winning it all, and he has answered the bell beautifully the last two games.

In one fell swoop, White made some Heat players AND some RealGM posters look silly. Savage.
