Re: Trade/Free Agency Thread 2023-24, Lucky Part 13
The big problem with Kornet is he can’t guard space and the Raptors got several open 3s during the 4th Q because he just can’t rotate. He’s also a poor defensive rebounder with mediocre hands.
I’m high a Queta long term because is a huge athlete but needs more experience.
The Celtics would be prudent to get a reliable 3rd big. You want somebody who is a good rebounder with bulk or athletic enough to guard space which Horford can’t really do anymore.

None of Kornet, Queta or Porzingis can "guard space." And I don't know why you would expect them to. The list of legit bigs who can guard space and just stop guards and quick wings from penetrating is very short, and consists of exactly Bam Adebayo.

We can all have our cutesie little suggestions on how to improve the team. (This is the trade thread after all.) But I highly advise all of you to put full, unwavering faith (and maybe sacrifice your least favorite offspring) to the Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Infallible Supreme Being of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens. He doesn’t miss. And even when you think he did, we just didn’t understand his purpose.

Drop is all the rage now and may be the base coverage of most teams.

You want our 3rd big to be the archetype that everyone is looking for yet very rare ? lol
Queta & Kornet are fine 3rd/4th options on this team.

Initial impression: I like it for Toronto more than for the Knicks.

I can't believe knicks made that trade, barret isnt anythingh special but he isn't that low in value in comparison to OG (expiring) in the current situation. A balanced trade would be more like quickley and some rounds for OG.

As I have said before, the Celtics will be fine with the quartet of Porzingis, Horford, Kornet and Queta. Probably the best group of centers the Celtics have had in a long time.
If Brad does anything I personally would try to add a big wing. Guys like Bey, Osman, Fontecchio, Otto Porter, PJ Tucker, Kenrich Williams etc.
Going to be tough for Brad Stevens to do this year.

Brad trades for a new big, Joe doesn't trust the new big enough to put him in high-leverage situations (no more than Kornet anyway), Joe gets called an idiot. I know where this is going lol.

I think PP, Sam, and Kornet all have an inherent advantage over who we think could be better in their spots for the main reason of them being with the program the last 3+ years. When we acquired White midseason, he took Schroder's/Richardson's place (who were acquired before that season started). And he was clearly better than those two. Yes, even Josh (we just didn't know it yet and even a smart player like him needed time to adjust and find his place in the offense).

The Knicks have lost their starting C for the year so Hartenstein is the starter. Also, I wonder what makes you think Hartenstein would be a good three point shooter. He averages 0.1 threes per game this season and has shot like 80 threes in his entire 5 year career.
This is when brain farts take over and you post you're a complete idiot and feeling like a moron.

Right now, I like the trade for the Raptors more than the Knicks (though it feels like there's another shoe that's about to fall *googles CAA clients*). Toronto still needs a starting PG despite Barnes improvement in his playmaking. (Or maybe they see IQ as starting PG material?)

Excited for my guy Quentin Grimes who's now primed to be the Knicks 6th man with IQ out of the way.

I think RJ is a negative value contract, tbh. He does nothing particularly well. Basically Wiggins when he was traded from Minny.

I had no idea Markkanen only made 17 mill per, 2 years left.. Boston could match with Big Al (sorry big fellow) + PP + Brissett and Kornet. Throw draft capital.. Dream Team part Deuce..
Yeah I know some other teams have better draft assets than us.. But dammmnnn...

I don't think it's the assets.
It's going to be more on why rock the boat?
Cs have something great going.
Why mess it up?

Can't deny there could be a risk of that. But I think Markkanen would well be worth it..

No doubt the Cs would get the best player in the trade, but we would lose our only reliable defender against Giannis, Embiid, and Jokic.
